To me, this is Blondie at their high-energy peak. They'd go on to much greater popularity soon after this with "Heart of Glass", "Call Me", "Dreaming" etc., but this was their best period as a live band.
Agreed. Much more raw, punk energy. Debbie Harry looked like a paranoid weirdo instead of a glamed-up sex symbol. And the band was having fun playing off each others energy instead of being a session band for a Marilyn Monroe clone.
My favourite version.....1978.....think when blobdie started?? ....Debbie looks...great and sings with freedom and reality .....band sound great... Melanie 33 🌈❤️
I saw Blondie in late '76 or early '77 in London, I think it was the Marquee club. They played several songs from the album Blondie including this one, and I seem to remember having the album about then, it was the very start of punk and she wore ripped fishnets and a plastic mac. There were several bands on that day-The Lurkers, a girl band called The Slits, The Damned, Television and The Police. Half the audience was skinhead and half punk, I had an album called New Wave, which I've still got and several of the acts were on that so it was a sort of 'introduction to Punk' day.
This song, and the albume it comes from sounds just as fresh and awesome today as when it first came out. I'd place this album in my top 5 favorite debut albums of all time1
Regardless of their later increased popularity, "Parallel Lines" is still their BEST album. The sheer number of great songs make all their later albums pale in comparison. And yes, I know this song was on "Blondie," their first album (and a very good one), but I was just talking about their whole catalog.
This video is Debbie Harry at her best! Outrageously insolent, yet, mockingly self-effacing; a perfect parody of the cliche American1950s teenage Rock 'n' Roll girl.
@@dixonpinfold2582 I'm not old enough to miss it (born in '88), but I do my best to embody it, teach it, proliferate it in the world! Fully empowered, liberated feminine erotic energy - there's nothing to it. There's a brilliant former dominatrix who's teaching it to women en masse, her name is Kasia Urbaniak and she is a real goddess.

Well it was mostly written by Gary Lachman (aka Gary Valentine) who was the band's early bassist (he'd left the band by the time of this live performance). Debbie's lyrics were about a prostitute who falls in love with the policeman who arrests her. Chris Stein often wrote for the band, but not this one. Interestingly, in the band's early performances, Valentine (Lachman) would switch from bass to lead guitar while Stein would play bass.
Blondie have Australia to thank for their fame.....and not with this song. Iconic 70s and 80s new wave pop band Blondie had its first big break in Australia. In 1977, an apparent accident by Molly Meldrum on Countdown gave the group its first hit single anywhere in the world. Meldrum was supposed to play Blondie's edgy track, X Offender, but instead played the single's B-side - the much poppier In The Flesh, which promptly went to the top of the charts. Blondie were not the only band to be launched by Countdown Australia - , "Madonna achieved her first hit single in April 1984 when "Holiday" was screened on Countdown. Subsequently, "Burning Up" reached the top twenty following repeated showings of the video clip on the show; this second song was not a hit in other countries. Other international artists including Blondie, ABBA, John Mellencamp, Meat Loaf, Boz Scaggs and Cyndi Lauper achieved their first hits in Australia, thanks to their video clips being aired on Countdown, and this in turn led to their records being picked up and becoming hits in America and/or Europe." In an act that borders on criminal, most episodes from the 70's were taped over in a cost cutting exercise.

@@tartgreenapple Paranoid weirdo? No. She's a hot badgirl. Love it.
all downhill after heart of glass
It always feels like they were having more fun here than when they became massively popular
This is actually true
Clem Burke is an incredible drummer. Blondie would not have been as good without him. Love this song, thanks for the upload
Una bellezza straordinaria. Icona della mia perdita di gradi di vista . Il prete me lo aveva detto....
My favorite Blondie song. Why it is my favorite Blondie song because of the guitar noises and the lyrics.
I remember taping the full show this was from off VH1 back in the mid 90s. Their performance that day was one of their tightest ever.
I used to think Dreaming was my favorite Blondie song, but this performance is so on point. X Offender , so awesome
Thank god for debbie harry❤
Punky Debbie is the best Debbie!

"What's the tempo tonight?" "Umm, Ramones tempo!" 😂
This is just nuts. Far too fast, and far too brilliant :) Love this version to bits.
Still a great song and performance. What a beautiful natural voice!

One of the best bands ever and the best one of the punk/new wave era. They were amazingly popular in their time.
I wish it was 1978 again

Hermosa Debbie...
Perfect !
Thanks for the reupload. Couldn’t find this video anywhere
Man that vidios the coolest
❤❤❤❤
Such a pity Frank Infante split. A superb guitarist so perfect for this band.
Good one
I guess I never realized that Clem Burke looks like young Paul McCartney. Dreamy!
Debbie's stunning looks can sometimes distract from how her other band members were as well.
Perpetrate love with you. Wonder where Elvis Costello got his sound a year later!
Beatles punk meets Blondie
The original title of this song was "Sex Offender" but it was listed on the album as X Offender -so it would not offend anyone. !!!
Cool
Clem's having the best time ever pounding the skins.
Clem looks so happy!
Miss Photo with dark Blue jeans in front of La Sagrada..❤❤❤🎉 Schwanke Reisen. Hearing u.a. Brian Ferry Avalon

Even with unkempt hair Debbie is still beautiful whereas I look a mess lol 😂

Elvis RAMONE on drums !!!🤘🥁
They say that they loved them in England. (But we;ll never know, Will we?)
Clem is in high gear in this one.

Her version of sexy, very new then, still isn't outmoded after all this time. Not even a little.

Cool story, bro. Are you Australian? Just curious.
Before they joined the Mike Chapman "Hit Factory".
I used to wonder who Blondie reminds me of....it Taylor Swift...they look so much alike
Oh Gavvd
AND Anime styled like our Cultures
Ugh This era
Taylor swift pales in comparison. No contest.
THIS WOMAN NEVER LEARNED HOW TO SING...
I KNOW! Don't you love it??
Too fast. Debbie's eyes :D
