      +1 are you watering from underneath that silver sun foil you have over your raised bed? or do you just water/let water drop through the hole that the plant is popping up through?

    Anytime I have had yellow leaves in any plant I was growing, just a little Epsom salt immediately turned the leaves to a deep dark green.
    Thanks for the videos and info. Thumbs up as always.

      skyym3 what should I do if my broccoli bottom leaves turn yellow? No head formed just yet :(

    • @skyym3629
      @skyym3629 4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @@olivia-bz2eh The only thing I could recommend is putting a tablespoon of epsom salts in a gallon of water and maybe some organic liquid fertilizer in with it. Just water it down about a cup a day with a sprinkle of water from the hose. A little bit really goes a long way.
      I hope this helps as I'm not a real professional at all. I just have been growing fruits and vegetables for a couple decades now and the biggest problems I face are because I live in the area of Pheonix, Arizona.
      Nutrition for plants is pretty much just like nutrition for us. Every growing thing needs a proper amount of vitamins, minerals, H2o, sunlight, and fresh air.
      I hope this helps you.
      Thanks and God bless

    John, you are so interesting! I enjoy your rambling videos. I learn so much and it’s like having a good friend come into my home. My husband is your doppleganger and he too is quite the chatty person. It takes us an hour to buy a box of screws from Lowe’s because he stops to talk to everyone. Garden is going strong, you were our inspiration to enlarge it this spring.

    I have terrific luck with spinach, it's one of the easiest most prolific things I grow. I do plant my seeds in a rich garden bed. Spinach gobbles nitrogen. You can try planting next to peas or beans which are heavy nitrogen producers for the soil. I do deal with yellow from some other greens which usually indicated too much sun or needing fertilizer. My main spinach issue is bolting. We had 1 or 2 hot days this year and then weeks of cool weather but it was too late my plants had already bolted! Still worth growing twice a year!

      @AlejandroLopez-nq8nd 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Joy he said 3 years. What is your point? Its been getting better all these months. I live in the metropolitan area and my life is basically back to what it was pre-hurricane. I cant say the same for the people in the rural counties though. What I am trying to say is I think having to wait 3 years could be unreasonable (he does not specify his reasons though so who knows).

    • @AlejandroLopez-nq8nd
      @AlejandroLopez-nq8nd 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ruby Arias it is a half acre house in the metropolitan area and a gated community which is quite a rare find. It is also almost 4,000 square feet of construction. It was $500k which is a much discounted price compared to pre-economic turmoil and pre-hurricane which could have had it going for $700k+. Houses with good land in counties outside of the metropolitan areas would likely be cheaper.

    I stand foot deep nursery bags in five inch deep bowls of grey water. The plants grow faster and the leaves are almost twice as large. Conventional irrigation leaches the nutrients out of the soil and uses more water. The lemon pips that I put in the capillary action irritated soil are germinating.

    Looks like too many yellow leaves in your bed, something is up. I wouldnt eat the yellow leaves they should go to the compost pile, they probably don't have the nutrients that the green leaves have. When I buy big packages of Spinach from a local farmer, I do not find yellow leaves unless they are old and then I would not eat them, just like you suggest to eat your harvest quickly to retain the most nutrition, why eat the old leaves unless you are low on food. So yellow leaves are not seen in commercially or farmer grown plants. These yellow leaf plants appear in a home garden either their soil is not getting enough moisture and have dried out too much or, the bed is low on a nutrient, that much yellow is not normal. Hopefully they are not in too much sun, spinach isn't a full day sun plant, it likes alittle shade

    I'm surprised and I'm cutting in right here at almost the end but you didn't mention that it had maybe a magnesium deficiency that causes things to Yellow. And then you could maybe just get some dr. Teal's Epsom salt and put on it.
    Now on the other thing about eating the meat. You said this kill it and bring it in and eat . Well it's kind of tough to eat a whole deer or steer and even though they have a Whole Hog bbq it's still tough the whole hog at once. But it properly taken care of you can enjoy a great meet for a long time. And I don't know people in my neck of the woods sit and wait on hunting season to come in to kill deer. It's that magical day in October for bowhunters and November for gun Hunters that transforms all deer into edible meat. Well last year I killed a couple in July and 1 in August out of my garden. He ate my stuff so I ate him. So go ahead and kill that deer in the summer they kill beef year round! Just be sure and have you a good shop fan and when you hang him up turn that fan on full blast and it will keep the flies blown away and just work him up quickly. I mean he already has a body temperature that is warmer than it is outside. And also that will be one less dear to eat your hard earned vegetables that you put a lot of money and time into raising just let them come in one night and wipe everything out. And when your fertilizing and watering just don't forget the Epsom salt! It's good for things other than soaking your feet!

    reasons too little sun
    pests
    too little water
    fungi
    leaf is too old
    failed grafting project
    too much sun
    someone used spray paint
    2 is it okay to eat
    answer it depends on the cause if it is just a mineral deficiency they wont be as healthy but are still edible same if they are just too old but if the problem is fungal bacterial caused by worms such as nematodes or amoeba or arthropods i would not recommend the risk of pathogens or mycotoxins .if it is just caterpillar damage its okay as long as the plant is not toxic like tomato leaves

      da1stamericus iron deficiency's occur when you grow in 90+% compost and no dirt or not enough highly mineralized rock dust is added. you need to add chelated iron to your soil. i will be doing a video on how i make what is know as "super soil" in about a month you should check it out

      Have some respect, this is his job, he's doing great, maybe instead of just saying it and you won't get it, maybe he likes to explain why or how, or what if, so what he is saying makes more sense. That's what the best teaching method is, rather than a cheap 2 minutes video saying something vague like most other videos.
