Comparing the True Mirror to the Backwards Mirror

  • John Walter again talks about why the True MIrror is so amazing - allowing one to see themselves with expressions intact and working the way they are supposed to. It may be uncanny, even an "uncanny valley" to see yourself this way, but its so much better to be on this side of the valley!

      Exactly what I was thinking ,if scientists have found out that the image we see in normal everyday mirrors are not how we actually look like then they should have made this news popular, I wonder why only few people share about the true mirrors. I will buy one when I get money, so that I can look better

    • @johnwalter8139
      @johnwalter8139 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, that's the point ...we change from our natural self to an altered self the second we make eye contact. It's more than physical, it's how we interact and think we are doing...what mirrors tell us may not be a full lie, but it's definitely not true. How we deal with this is then embedded in our self-image in a fundamental, and imo, an inherently unhealthy way. Our truth as our being-Ness is so much more than what mirrors show us

    So a true mirror is one that flips the image to show you a clone of yourself and a backwards mirror is a literal reflection of reality. I can see why some people get so uncomfortable with a normal mirror, reality is tough.

    • @TrueMirrorJWalter
      @TrueMirrorJWalter  3 ปีที่แล้ว +16

      Hi Skel, not sure which mirror you are talking about...the "normal" mirror for most people is the reversing one, but I think that it is quite unnatural and not normal at all. And everyone is so different with themselves in mirrors - some are very comfortable, some say it tortures them, some dont even look at themselves except to fix themselves physically. The True Mirror is much closer to reality, although the perception one has can take some time to normalize and become the preferred mirror. The most unfortunate thing is that our perception is skewed by our minds trying to match the "burned in" reversed image (like a computer monitor with the same image) with the slightly different non-reversed image...asymmetries that are minor and not really seen suddenly are doubled and highly visible because they are going the other way. But true too, reality is tough, and when it is, the True Mirror can be highly empathetic compared to the reversed mirrors, mainly because our feelings are accurately portrayed. It's the strangest thing in the world that everyone is used to a self-reflection that masks our feelings...literally...because our expressions are not accurately portrayed, we interact with ourselves in a different way than reality, often staring/glaring/doubting at ourselves instead of communicating with ourselves naturally Thus we are usually so much more critical of ourselves in mirrors than our friends might be with us, because our friends see our humanity through our troubles. So too, the True Mirror can do this as well, becoming an ally through both hard times, and a joyful and authentic celebration during the good times. But no question, it takes some time and work to walk through the uncanny valley that seeing yourself in this new way represents.

    Wow you look alive in the true mirror and much better! I noticed with my son brushing his teeth one night, I looked at his face then looked at his reflection. A reversed standard mirror reflection is flatter, duller and less alive that he looks in real life.

    • @TrueMirrorJWalter
      @TrueMirrorJWalter  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      its really happening to all of us, especially as kids, where we learn about who we are, and how we are, partially based on what we see in the reversing mirror. And as a parent, you can see the difference in the child, but the child has no reference - hes never seen himself in action, with bright eyes and expressions. When i have shown the true mirror to children, they engage with themselves more, but unfortunately don't turn to you and say - "hey i like this me more..." again because they dont really have the way to compare. I think at about 9-12 that's when kids start comparing themselves to others, and the mirror version of them comes up short. pretty sad state - we all enter adolescence and adulthood with this constant filter over our true nature.

    I’m just curious abt this question that I was thinking of for a really long time. I’ve tried to put two mirrors together and looked at the centre of the mirror where I could see my true self, are the sides of the mirrors also accurate? (the sides where I actually can’t make eye contact but I could still see it reversed idk kinda confused if those sides are true or not)

      Dude this is bullshit... I'm sorry but it is. You look the same in both cases, just get a friend or a family member and sit them in front of a mirror... Look at them through the mirror and then look straight at them. There's no damn difference. Flipped or not we look the same. Doesn't matter if your face is asymmetrical or not. You will probably notice some difference in yourself if you flip the image because it's not what you are used to seeing but the longer you look at it the sooner you'll realize that it's the same.

    • @TrueMirrorJWalter
      @TrueMirrorJWalter  17 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@Zeke-ss7gx both are not reversed, but the True Mirror is incredibly more realistic and accurate. the main thing is that you are a dynamic being, and photos are a static representation. But also the camera interferes with you being natural, you tend to pose to not get caught in that in between expression that looks odd when taken as just a snapshot, but is perfectly normal as part of an expression that lasts a lot longer. Its also life sized and 3D, unlike the camera output is usually flat and tiny. there is also lens distortion. Videos are more dynamic , but they also are tiny and flat, and lens interfering, but more importantly, you simply cant look into your eyes and communicate in real time about what and who you are seeing...this is what all the videos are showing, how people come to life to themselves, and its so brand new, even though they have had cameras around for a long time.

    Maybe it's my ADHD and I just like the simple mindedness but this is a bit far fetched. It's the same thing just reversed... There's no true self... It's just backwards... And to be honest when looking in the true mirror it messes up my ADHD cuz the direction I'm moving is backwards and I hate it. Marketing for this is completely silly.
