Just so good! I think we’d all love to see some longer-form videos. For instance, seeing how you painted those amazing clouds would be fascinating. Thanks Colley!

Hi Mark. I currently have a course with Tucson Art Academy Online-plus we’re also going to be opening a Patreon in the not so distant future. Glad you enjoyed.

It’s advice I’ve picked up through my work-the nature of oil paint’s dullness when it drys has massively influenced me. Thanks for watching.

Love your color palette and how seemingly effortlessly you work - truly inspiring. Do you have any preferences when it comes to varnishing paintings? @@colleywhissonartist

Did a quick road trip up the mid north coast recently to find some reference material. Visited Smoky Cape Lighthouse which reminded me of this painting. I hope to take on board your 'make a mark, leave it' approach when doing mine.
ps there is no shortage of material up there - headlands, pumpkins, planted fields, cows, kangaroos, beaches, farmhouses, barns, rivers and distant mountains.

If it takes 30 years to reach this perfection, I've got a good 25 years left, so I'm not worried at all :)

Hi Colley, Can you let us know the colour pallete you are normaly using ?
Also do you wait for the first layer to dry before applying the next paint ?, you seem to paint over layers effortlessly without worrying about mixing paint from the bottom layer.
Looking forward for your Patreon , please make it more affordable for beginners also if possible . Thanks Colley.

Yes, I always work Wet in Wet, the trick is to treat the first layer as if you’re staining the surface, this allows me to work over it. Also I use Archival Lean Medium, which is a fast drying medium.
My Archival Oil (Chroma Paint) Palette Colours:

Titianium White
French Ultramarine Blue
Permanent Alizarin
Cadmium Yellow Medium
Cadmium Orange
Cadmium Red Light Scarlet
Yellow Ochre
Light Red Ochre
Pthalo Green

Lean Medium for Small paintings
Classic Medium for Larger paintings.
Odourless Solvent

Available from Dick Blicks Online in the US.
We want as many people to be able to hop on Patreon as possible-with more details to come-we’ll share more in future.
      Thanks for watching.

Thanks for sharing your palette, also does Archival Lean Medium dries within few hours or minutes ?

There's a lot to unpack in this short 8 minute clip, and often with observing artists there's as much interest with what you changed or omitted as to what you put it in the painting. For me (and you never spoke about these things, maybe it would be an interesting video, what to omit and change) I saw a change of the colour of the sky from a neutral blue to a warm blue so to speak, you changed the white post on the left, made it shorter and more simple, the shadows are thicker and more pronounced (it was one of the first marks with your brush), the chimney I think is quite important but you didn't speak about what you did there, you turned it red, and without me checking too much, the only singular red thing in the painting? Apart from the roof which adopted some of that red, but in the photo it is a kind of cold green/grey. Your comments were interesting. There are some of my thoughts, if my observations are correct (difficult to see in detail on a mobile phone if I mis-observed).

Thanks for input. Most of the time I do my editing before I start, but many times I’m doing small adjustments throughout and some changes are sub conscious. Ultimately I’m looking for the perfect subject where all I need to do is paint. I’ll look at talking more about the art of editing. Thanks for watching.
