    Tyrants of the underdark really surprised me, i've not played an area control/deck building hybrid and the combination works exceptionally well. What other deck building hybrid games to you like, as i think i don't dig pure deck builders, but when its part of a wider game, i can get into them.

      I love Tortuga 2199 though a lot of people don't like It, i don't know why. Dune Imperium though is overrated in my opinion, not a bad Game but the Game of the year?, Really?

    • @3MBG
      @3MBG  3 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      My thoughts on Dune Imperium too, like its a good game. But it didn't wow me, hence why Tyrants got a gold medal from me and Dune Imperium did not.

    This was an incredible overview. I had watched another how to play video and had a very tough time following, but you presented the game in a clear, succinct way. Thank you!

    Tyrants have been one of my top 3 games for years now. Glad to see it getting a reprint and also a great easy to understand video on how to play it.

    It's shocking how you managed to explain the whole game in 3 minutes.
    I can show this video to a gamer who has never played this game and he would be able to play right away.

      Cheers and thank you. I certainly never cover every rule and situation in a game, all i hope is that you get enough that the full game isn't a shocking surprise. Glad i could do more this time

    Grabbed a copy of the first edition recently from my LGS and it’s been a favorite among my friends. I love the way “trashing” is used with the inner circle, as it incentivizes trashing cards other than your starters, which is something you don’t often see in other deckbuilders. I also feel there’s decent choices to be made when buying cards as opposed to just cramming it with whatever looks cool.
    Some other deck-building-with-a-board games that I’ve played and enjoyed are Undaunted and Quest for El Dorado.

    • @3MBG
      @3MBG  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I knew i should have called that trashing thing out in the review, as its so good.

    Love this game! My wife got it as a birthday present for me a few years ago and my friend group loves this game! It’s so nice how the deckbuilding works with the worker placement mechanic. We also love the half deck mechanism/setup. Super fun way to add replay ability to the game!
    I’m normally not one to push for minis, but owning the first edition has spoiled me and seeing the second edition look so “flat” really takes away the appeal for the game from me. However it does come with the expansion already included, and I’m assuming they fixed the different color backs problem from the first edition. So some positives along with the negatives

  • @evilwillhunting

    Such a fun game.
    My biggest tip for the newbies: don't buy up cards just because you can. A lot of the 4-5 cost cards are really only useful in certain situations. Read the card, don't just be beguiled by the cost and the impressive monster. If you're someone who typically doesn't want to devour or promote cards, you will probably buy a lot of cards that aren't useful to you and will just clutter up your hand.
    Also: USE YOUR SPIES! I can't stress that enough. Not only does it open up a bigger reach, but it stops the other guys from getting VPs.

    If it could play more than 4 players it would be a success for me.

    I love this game and would not say it is moderately complex. Depending on the audience of course, and also if we're talking learning to play, or play well, but buying and playing cards and moving dudes around isn't exactly complex. That being said I wouldn't call it light either!

    • @3MBG
      @3MBG  3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      i use a 1-5 scale
      1 is super basic, like Uno or Checkers
      2 is simple, one main core mechanic that people would have to learn
      3 is moderately complex, not an overwhelming game for most, but has multiple mechanics
      4 is reasonably complex, games with lots of systems and moving parts
      5 is bonkers complex, where you'll need an index for the rulebook

    It may be a terrific game but as soon as I saw the board I hated it. Dune Imperium will probably be my pick for the deck builder/area control hybrid genre.

    • @3MBG
      @3MBG  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Interesting, why the immediate reaction?

    • @mikec64
      @mikec64 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@3MBG I don't like pure deck builders, but I like the mechanic when paired with more story, like with Clank. The map means a lot. This map really just looks like artwork with boxes drawn on top of it. It doesn't look at all like I'm trying to hold a castle or capture.. .what is that, a giant mushroom? It sure doesn't look like I'm fighting to hold a bridge.
      I don't usually have an immediate negative reaction, especially if it's a game you recommend, but on this one-is the labyrinth just more damn mushrooms-the map looks like a LIE.

    • @3MBG
      @3MBG  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Hahaha, actually, i get that. the underdark theme is a weird one and the map really does look like a bunch of interconnected dots

      I'm also turned off by the board but I'm looking for a mid level deck builder as I have nothing between el dorado and mage knight 😂 it reminds me of defenders of the realm; it had amazing art but the board was the same collection of circle spaces with a little art on a boring backdrop
