Ow this is amazing. Im an antique lover and i bought many antiques from curiosamarkets and antiquemarkets. I very glad that i collected an antique top hat from 1909. Its a little damaged but i hope i make it less damaged one day. Great video 👍🎩

London's Metropolitan Policemen Peelers uset to wear Stove-pipe top hats for standing on to look over people's heads and walls. They were strong enough for it back then. In 1863 the first custodian helmets were adopted. The London Policemen top hats from 1829 to 1863.

Why?is it dirty or what If you want a new one better get to a hatters,the one that know how to works with top hat,if its clean then just use it,cause that part is never gonna shown up

Do you know if this hardening is permanent, how it happens and how dangerous it is? Also, I've heard about Tallow polishing and other polishing methods which involve hardening a layer of fat, for example, over the top hat to hold the silk flat, but this sounds risky/dangerous. @@carltrotter7622 yes,water polish hardened the strands of the silk,and overtime Will make marks,also they evaporate very fastly,i have heard of using tallow but never use them,i prefer polishing them in a vegetable oil,the same as tallow but more efficient

@@dariel7001 water is good but evaporate very quick,i like oil but be very careful using it, beef tallow were also good

@@dariel7001 i used some neutral cooking oil,very thin must be applied or it will become greasy and very hard to remove and tallow is beef fat/suet
