    Seems like there's a lot of professional fly tyers that are also haters commenting ! Personally, I picked up a few ideas, and feel he did an outstanding job of creating a highly realistic glass shrimp. Is it fishable? Does it take more time to creat this than a hastly thrown togather hack job fly? Is everyone commenting even capable of such precision work like this? Do most have the creativity to envision, execute, and make a video this well done? Yes or no depends on your personal experience or your lack of touch with reality. Great video, nice camera work, I would like to hear a few words describing your methods but your video was well worth the time I spent to watch it, thank you for sharing!

    Unbelievable! I love this stuff. Ive been watching many shrimp fly videos for use in rock cod fishing here in NCal. This is by far the most realistic representation. Outstanding work.

    🌴 well I see a lot of whining about how much time you put into it , as fly tiers we create a lure that is suppose to trick the fish into thinking he’s getting the real deal in order to get the fish to bite , isn’t that the the whole purpose of fly tying , to replicate nature , this is a magnificent fly , thanks for posting 👊🏼👍

    awesome job.
    curious though... since everything is coated with uv, is the pre made body really necessary? couldn't it be done by using markers directly on the dubbing before starting the uv process?

    • @ahrexhooks3652
      @ahrexhooks3652  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Wayne, thanks a lot. That is a really good question. I will have to ask the fly tier Morten Hansen. I will get back to you on this. Thanks for asking.

    • @Coastfly
      @Coastfly 7 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Hi Wayne! Thank you for your comment.. That is correct that you Could just color the dubbing body with markers, i actually do that sometimes and then use thin skin in clear or with dots.. The thing is that the triangular Shape i cut into the Shell back/thin skin makes it 100 times easier to form the head.. in my opinion - if you whant a good looking shrimp fly, that looks like a shrimp, you must give the head section some extra love and attention because that is the one thing that makes it look like a Real shrimp.. all the very best - and Happy tying!!

    Its not fly tying, its fly glueing ;-)

    • @flymasterA
      @flymasterA 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I agree. Great model shrimp-making, not fly-tying 100%. Like Bill Blackstone - model insect maker. This is not wrong per say, but _tying_ things to the hook is more true to the hobby.One bad thing about epoxy and UV glue flies is that they are too hard and fish will spit them faster than you can set the hook. The fly doesn't taste or feel natural. Another bad thing is that they are much heavier than soft-body versions, and thus tougher to cast long salt-water distances without dropping on you. Keeping a large realistic shrimp-fly light is a challenge.

    • @SethDanielRiedel
      @SethDanielRiedel 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Certainly no disrespect intended to the tyer, but I had the exact same thought. I started the video really excited but was really bummed when I saw the legs get glued on. When I first started fly tying, I got into realistic flies and bought Paul Whitlocks book flies as art (I think) and his big rule was that it’s fly tying, not model making so anything must be tied to the hook. I’ve carried that with me and think it’s a good rule to follow. However if this catches fish and is durable, who am I to complain how someone else does something

  • @wjm988

      Fly rods & reels easily can cost $1,000 plus, tyers get a measly small amount ($1-2.50) for their creations. Very unbalanced.

  • @SkidinDingo
    @SkidinDingo 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    it looks like a very nice fly, but it looks like its inefficient- almost 15 minutes in a fly, and used so much uv resin, so if i deticated a full 3 hours to fly tying id have 3 colours in four sizes, one of each to see what the fish are eating, and if i got a snag it would almost justify wadeing/boating over to it, spooking all the fish there, getting my fly back, resharpening the hook, retying the end of my tippet, and finding more fish somewhere else. its an awesome looking shrimp, but, imo, hardly worth tying more than two just to have a hyper realistic shrimp to throw at picky fish- im just content with the simpler patterns i guess.

    • @Coastfly
      @Coastfly 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you love flytying like i do you dont mind spending time on it.. :-)

    • @SkidinDingo
      @SkidinDingo 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Fair enough. I just prefer wuick patterns. More flies in the box and more time in the water. You can tie/fish however you want

  • @1114flibby
    @1114flibby 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I'll agree it does look nice but who wants to spend that much time on one fly! Tying fly's is about catching fish not creating art, just as fly fishing is about catching fish and not how tight your loops are.
