    Got my Tech Air 5 a couple months ago within my first 6 months of riding. I use it all the time, don't care if it's 100º outside. I invested in wearable gear (protection) and bike protection from day one. Zero $ on fancy exhausts, or anything that won't really help me if something goes wrong. In big part thanks to you for helping understand the importance of this and the risks of riding.

      Yeah I got mine a few months ago as well, agreed, I don't care how hot it is. Today in NY it's 94 degrees F real feel 103 degrees F. I wear full protection no matter what ...

      Nice I wanna get this airbag vest too. Just to give some advice, exhaust systems or slipons are actually very important for safety as they make stock bikes that are almost silent in traffic heard and visibility in traffic is crucial when riding. Visibility/being heard. Loud pipes.

    • @carlcarlssen4299
      @carlcarlssen4299 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @rohandhanota9944 nice ill check them out. The only thing that worries me about these devices is the thought of them actually not functioning while crashing, leaving you with actually no form of protection. Not even padding.

    • @KartikeyaPuri45
      @KartikeyaPuri45 3 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@carlcarlssen4299 that's a concern I have too, especially when you low side I've heard of it sometimes not activating. For that reason I actually wear my shoulder pads in the jacket too. The good part is this vest (I have the same one but revit version) has a built-in CE-1 level back protector. So with my elbow & shoulder pads and this back protector I feel like I'm decently protected even if it doesn't go off.
      They do ask that you take out any back/chest protectors from your jacket when you wear this, as it interferes with the airbag system. But I think shoulder is ok.

    • @carlcarlssen4299
      @carlcarlssen4299 3 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@KartikeyaPuri45 YEah it seems like with the shoulder and elbow protectors then this airbag vest is good, even in the event of it not opening up. My next worry, and this sounds a bit crazy to most ppl. I dont like being surrounded by electronics, let alone ones directly on top of me for various reasons but one, is the risk of cancer. Read about bluetooth devices and why ppl quit wearing them when they first came out.

  • @NormKohn
    @NormKohn 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +5

    An important point you seem to overlook is the airbag needs room to expand under your jacket of 2 to 3 inches according to Alpinestars. Your outer jacket is too tight for this room needed to operate the airbag.

    • @dxsmith12
      @dxsmith12 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Your statement is correct if you are using a non-alpinestars brand jacket. If wearing an alpinestars brand, tech-air compatible jacket, the jacket can be the same size as the vest thus be more snug fitting. The alpinestars tech-air jackets have expandable panels to accommodate vest deployment. To your point, my Revit jackets in contrast have to be at least a size larger than my tech-air 5 vest in order to accommodate deployment as there are no expandable panels.

  • @Motovibes91
    @Motovibes91 ปีที่แล้ว +12

    I like the Helite more because when it goes off, you only have to change the cartridge for 20-50 euros without having to send it back. With the Alpinestars after each deployment, you have to send it back to the factory for a rebuild which costs 350 euros😮

    • @MotoJitsu
      @MotoJitsu  ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Who cares about the money to rebuild if it protects me?

    • @italyguy08
      @italyguy08 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @@MotoJitsu Because who knows how long you'll have to wait to get the vest back from the factory. It's just something to think about when shopping for an airbag vest. Cost is still a consideration when it comes to gear, is that not apparent to you?

    • @MotoJitsu
      @MotoJitsu  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      if it's accidental, then so be it. technology isn't perfect.

    • @MotoJitsu
      @MotoJitsu  ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Then I'll put in a back protector in the jacket while I wait for it to come back...or wear my 1 piece leather suit, obviously. Cost is not a consideration for gear...it's an investment, like courses and track days which I do monthly.

    • @italyguy08
      @italyguy08 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      @@MotoJitsu and I'm sure you realize that people use a cost/benefit risk/reward filter when purchasing anything, whether that's gear or anything else.
      I buy the best gear that I can afford, which means taking cost into consideration. I save up for track days which also take cost into consideration.
      I like the helite better because not only is it less expensive but it protects more of your upper torso and lower back, you can change your own cartridges, and you can buy a low tech version that uses a tether.
      Although as far as aesthetics go the alpinestars wins for sure!

    Yep - i started riding at age 56 and when i did, i bought the Alpinestars TechAIR Street and the Valparaiso jacket which was one of the jackets to which the system attaches. The vest is a much better idea because you can use it under a variety of jackets.
    I have fallen off my bikes at slow speeds a number of times and have even rolled completely over and the vest has not deployed. I’m glad it has not deployed because 1) in those situations, I did not need it, and 2) it’s expensive to get the CO2 cartridges recharged. It makes me worry just a little that it also might not deploy if i actually need it but i’m not too worried because it uses three accelerometers to determine whether or not you have been impacted or are about to impact the ground. If Greg bought the Medium vest, what size is the jacket? one size up to accommodate the vest?
    i’m 61 now, so it’s probably about time for me to get new gear.

    Love that you bought the same jacket as me. It's the only leather jacket I found that is VERY breathable. I'm actually getting cold on the chest in the summer (on evenings).
    The only thing I don't like about this jacket is that I can't fully turn my head on straights/intersections since the shoulder armor hard-stops the chin.

    I got GP Plus R V3 Rideknit Leather Jacket from Alpinestars and it's very comfortable even with the tight fit and I have the tech air 5 too. Riding during summer is ok, I feel in it even better than in my old textil jacket. As soon as you ride at least 60km/h it's not hot in it anymore thanks to that mesh thingy and the jacket is perfored in some places. Another absolutely great thing I can recommend is to wear some special shirt designed to be weared under the moto gear. I have dainese functional pants and rebelhorn functional t-shirt (if it's the correct term in english) for hot weather and it is absolutely awesome! Cannot ride without it anymore. Nice vid, thanks and have a good one. Cheers

    I currently use HitAir which is tethered, both a vest and 3 jackets (overkill). Tech-Air is nice and similar to the Klim vest in my opinion. Sometimes I use my HitAir vest with a Bohn Armor mesh shirt, but I don’t think the shirt would be good at surviving abrasion on it’s own. I like HitAir because of the neck roll that inflates, and they offer a chest piece, which is something missing from a lot of jackets. The Tech-Air does offer great all around upper torso protection. Thanks great video. AGATT!

    I’d be interested if the vest fits under the textile jacket too. Maybe with back armour removed.
    I want to find an airbag system that doesn’t lock me into a specific jacket.
    I’ve wanted to replace my back armour for some time and an airbag seems like the way to go. Though they don’t seem to go as low on the spine as some of the armour systems.

    Great gear and the high cost is absolutely worth it for the protection if gives, BUT... one thing came to mind when I saw how close-fitting both items were. With a tight air vest inside a tight leather jacket, what happens if the vest goes off? The high pressure gas will do what it needs to do and expand the vest very rapidly, but with almost no space between the two where does it expand into? I would worry that the jacket's seams would lose the battle and maybe suffer damage to the stitching? Hope I'm wrong and even if I'm not it would still be worth it for the protection etc, but might be costly to have to replace the jacket? Ride safe brother and I hope you never need to find out!

    I’m having a rant about other bikers and I want to know your thoughts.
    I’ve just got home from a drive in my car, I was in a cue of slow moving vehicles (10-15mph) on a 60mph road, approaching a blind right-hand corner with faster oncoming traffic. I could see this biker occasionally overtaking coming up behind and I thought “what a dangerous place to overtake”, I carry on in a normal car sized positioning in the road and I could see other motorists in the cue behind unnecessarily swerving out of the way to let the biker pass. I’m now on the blind corner and out of nowhere the biker flys past giving a hand gesture to me that I should have pulled over to give them more space to pass. The biker shouldn’t have been attempting to overtake in a dangerous place. I’m fed up of bikers who think everyone has to change their driving behaviour to let them pass. In other situations where it’s safe, if possible I’m happy to pull to aside slightly to give a faster accelerating bikers space to pass more easily. As a biker YOU are the person who should make sure that it’s safe to proceed, and don’t verbally abuse or pressure other safe motorists to change their driving behaviour to make space for you. Roads are built for ALL motorists, not only bikers.

    Nice! I looked at some electronic airbag vests but decided to stick with the mechanical Helite for now. Klim infamously offered one that required a subscription. If you missed a payment, then your airbag wouldn't deploy. Does Alpinestars do that, too? Incidentally, do you still have your Helite jacket?

    • @MotoJitsu
      @MotoJitsu  ปีที่แล้ว

      mine doesn't have a subscription

    • @4940markhutchins
      @4940markhutchins ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Klim airbag doesn’t require a subscription. You pay $400 for the vest + $400 for the in¬ion stuff. $800 combined, which is about the same as Tech air and Helite.
      There is an option to subscribe for $120/year instead of $400. If you don’t pay, there is a 30 day grace period and it won’t shut off while you’re riding unless the battery is dead.
      Beyond that, seems the Klim would be comfortable to wear - stretchy and breathable.
