I thought the reeds were going to be like mush, rubbery and flavorless. I finally got flowers on my Pinkerton this year so I'm excited to finally get some fruit. I know the Pinkerton is very productive for you.
So glad you were able to taste your Maluma. Good to know that it's a good tasting avocado. My tree is in ground and it is currently flowering like crazy. Hopefully I can get a few avocados for next season.
Thanks for the video. I wonder if a comparative taste /quality testing can be done between a Lamb Hass and a Maluma. I’d be interested in seeing that. Also, what will be the natural unpruned shape eventually of the Maluma? More narrow than wide or vice-versa? I’d be interested in buying some scions when available.
So far the lamb hass is a lot more floppy from what I'm seeing. Definitely do a video showcasing the growth habit and what the tree will end up looking like. I can say that the maluma tastes slightly better than the lamb. Thanks for watching Neal!
It is supposed to be very productive. I know someone who got the trees from my group buy and their is flowering and fruiting this year nicely. Mine is taking this year off I think.
Hey REM - Thanks for the taste test. Both are nice looking fruit. I'm still waiting on my SC Gold from Epicenter, which should ship sometime this month. Lots of college basketball today!!
That's awesome that you're going to get the SC, it took them 2 years to finally get me a Nimlioh. For some reason I'm rooting for women's Iowa basketball...
@@AvocadoTalk It takes a while for certain varieties from Epicenter. I would like to see Iowa win too, but S. Carolina is going to be a tough match up.
Glad to see your Reed was ready and you could enjoy it. The Maluma looks like a good avocado, how would you compare it to a Hass? It sure looks like a Hass. I was looking at my Reed trees the other day and I noticed that some of their stems are yellow. I am wondering if are ready earlier this year because of all the rain we have had? I am thinking that might be the case. I had my biggest crop of avocados this year. My GEM trees produced very well. I have been eating GEMs for about a month now and they are really good. I think the next variety I have that will be ready soon are the Reed. I have three Reeds and they each have close to dozen fruit on each tree. I have not had to buy avocados for a while and with my Reeds ready soon I don't think I will need to buy avos soon.
Year round avocados. I think the Hass taste a little better than Maluma. I've been enjoying Hass, Carmen, Gem, Wurtz, a dropped Lamb and now Reeds. Esther and Gwen next. We'll see how long I can keep going without buying avocados, hoping my Hass and Lamb hold a long time.
It probably is slower and more dense so should keep fruit shaded. Tree will be smaller because it's a slower growth but considering it already fruited for me, it should be a good producer. There are so many good varieties out there...
@@AvocadoTalk I don't think it is breaking any rules. Maluma is not patented or patent is expired. It is growing around world, even Brokaw Nursery sells it but sold out.
Congrats on the puppies 😁😁. So what's crazy is the half that I cut from this morning that I left on the counter has not oxidized as of right now. Usually they start turning brown. So this variety is starting to become more impressive. Scions should become more readily available in the future I think.
@@AvocadoTalk that's great,,, is it the sir prize that also doesn't oxidize fast, the internet says Maluma can take cold pretty well but Dan the field rep at Brokaw said it's not so I don't really know for sure. Hopefully Maluma can take at least 29 if tented on a cold night.
@@RareAvoTrees I've heard about Sir Prize and I've seen Pinkerton also oxidize slowly. Not sure about cold, we only got down to 32-33F. More heat tolerance need for me. Based on my conversation with him, Dan is a wealth of knowledge.
I love the way reed looks!
Thw maluma looks good.
Wonder if the different avocado shapes have anything to do taste
Never thought about it that way, interesting... Stay hydrated my friend
Thx, good to know Reed can be picked early, and just gets better and better.

Been waiting to hear about the maluma taste, thanks for doing this REM.
I would like to see how productive this will be in the future...Thanks for watching!

Bummer you didn't get a chance to try it, I wanted to hear your take on it's flavor. At least we are some of the lucky few who have the Maluma.
Looks so perfect it doesn't even look real!
Very pleasantly surprised with the Reed and so far the half maluma that I cut from this morning has not oxidized so that's actually a good attribute.
Gary Matsuoka often says he started eating his Reeds now and was surprised when he found out that it was early.@@AvocadoTalk
@@growyourownavocados you guys up there probably need more time on the tree but I'm curious when it's the earliest Reeds will start to taste good.
Some people here start to eat them in July.
Great video REM, need to get myself a maluma. Great taste test comparison, thanks for sharing!
If you find one, I think it would be worth getting. Good luck

I took a chance and ordered a Maluma, and am waiting delivery. Good to know it was worth ordering, thanks for your review. 😊
Congrats, compared to some other varieties, I would say the Maluma is worth getting. Where did you get it from?
Ordered from Ray Charmbury, but delivery will not be for quite a while, I'm told. Ordered Gem as well. Both trees on Dusa.
Amazing looking fruit🤩 Can’t wait to here your top 5 A type👍
Thanks for watching, top 5 A type will be hard.
Does Maluma produce a lot of fruits? Thank you for the video.
It is supposed to be very productive. I know someone who got the trees from my group buy and their is flowering and fruiting this year nicely. Mine is taking this year off I think.
What do you do with the seeds? Will you plant and see what comes up?
Anyway, great video, thanks for sharing. Adding this to my avocado bucket list.
@@vegardno I think I lost track of this seed. If this is productive locally then it would definitely be something everyone should consider.
Hi REM cool you kept a fruit on the tree. My Maluma is heavily flowering right now
Very light flowers on mine, wonder if it is because I left 1 fruit. We'll see. You should get some fruit, congrats

What about that burrito. I was waiting for the details. I probably drive past where u got it several times a week.
Is the maluma a dence fast grower ? I want something small dence fruit crop on inside of tree for less sunburn fruit but at same time a fast grower.

Ok wonder if Uzi rootstock would grow any faster my gem on dusa are on the slower growth side.
Is it possible to get some Maluma scions from you in the future? I couldn't find a nursery selling the tree.
Not sure about Maluma (might be rules against it), other varieties would be OK.

I just top worked a few tree with maluma
I’ll be enjoying some of these in a few years
Nice, it should flower and fruit quickly. Congrats!
Let's go
Year round avocados, almost there!

I want a Maluma sooo bad i can almost taste it, can i trade you a german shepherd pup for 6 scions ?

@@AvocadoTalk yes Dan has been helpful, let me know how long Maluma goes before any or much brown seen on fruit.
So the maluma appears to be a spring fruit here in California. I’d like to know if anybody gets different results.
