Great times, smoking inside, beer, good place! Sadly when the management changed, Paradiso became a multiculti place with an emphasis on afro, and the fun was gone.
@@alexfenton229 Well, the Gun Club was kinda difficult. But it's not about this specific group. The Dead Kennedys, Birthday Party, Pixies, Smashing Pumpkins...The atmosphere was extremely cool. Ever been there in the 80/90'?
@@robbertvanoosten2530 I've sadly never been to Amsterdam in my 51 years! But I will!! I started going to gigs and clubs in 88-89 then joined the free party Festival scene. It was a time when people didn't care what clothes were on and thank GOD, no camera phones out in everyone's faces😵💫
@@alexfenton229 Amsterdam or not isn't that much a miss but haven't seen all those legendary bands in The Paradiso - best location of all I've been us a tragedy Stairs up and you could buy shots 🍻💊🍻
The Gun Club was the band that made me understand (in a rudimentary way, I guess) America when I was a teenager. Miami is, 40+ years later, still in my top 3 rock albums.
Sometimes the crowd might be intently listening. Sometimes they might be blown away. Not jumping around does not equate necessarily to lame. I've been to many shows where the lame asses jumping around ruined the show for others.
I was there as a 17 year old boy at Paradiso Amsterdam. Can remember the bored crowd though. Unbelievable whenI see this. Sounds great! Jeffrey Lee Pierce drank himself to death when he was 38 I read at Wiki. Rock 'n Roll...
the filth and the fury is a widely mocked film by those who were close to the pistols. And yes he is rich off butter commercials and battle of the bands, what an artist!
I didn't realize he died. Man, what a drag. Him and Duckworth really took this iteration of the band to another level of intensity that Jeff never captured again. RIP.
This was recorded in Amsterdam, Holland. In the early eighties we were amidst the cold war and the general attitude in Holland was fuck it.The bomb can be here any minute now. Also the economy was bad at that time. Alot of young people couldn't find a decent job back then. All of this might probably explain their lethargic appearence, wich i find a kinda cool really ^
Kees Melle Interesting, plausible. But it could be that they’d seen many angry young men fronting bands and weren’t impressed. I love the Gun Club but not all the live performances were good. When Jeffrey’s voice could be heard well, the songs could be mesmerizing. I guess I also prefer the medium tempo songs and the broody ballads of his the most.
The audience is not to blame when a band fails to impress. This is Paradiso. Amsterdammers are straight forward, they don't feign enthusiasm if the performance is below par.
Robert Craan..... hey, Jim Duckworth and Dee Pop had left long before 85. Terry graham and Kid Congo returned 84. Pierce was solo in 85 and brought out Wildweed.
@JohnMoseley And it looks like Jeffrey Lee is fully aware of that. He has this "why the fuck am I bothering right now?" look on his face. That sucks. I would have traded places with any of those bored-looking fuckers to be there.
@cordedpoodle You aint kidding. I went to the Gary Numan concert a few months back (yeah, I know, Gary Numan. What can I say, my boyfriend digs him and I have thie secret love for the album Replica's) and this weirdo couple standing infront of us totally ruined the concert with their lame here 'n' there dance moves and constant jumping. They even (accidentally) whacked this poor girl in the face whilst jiving. Unless it's in the pit, i'd rather a mellow audience.

1) Is that Ward wit h a Mohawk? Wild! 2) Patricia might be cute but has HORRIBLE technique. Rob Ritter (God rest his soul) will always be THE Gun Club bassist in my humble estimation/memory.
These people clearly had no idea how lucky they were to be there.
YES§
At the time I saw them ( 1983 at Ichabod's in Fullerton California ) they were one of many good bands playing on any given night in the LA club scene.
🤮
they miss the fire spirit
This was in Paradiso, Amsterdam. And I was there, 23 years old. Great gig.
Great times, smoking inside, beer, good place! Sadly when the management changed, Paradiso became a multiculti place with an emphasis on afro, and the fun was gone.
Did anyone enjoy it apart from you? Didn't look like they were 😢

So great!
One of my favourites - as a Punk- and later as a Blues-Band !

J'étais présent fin 1990 a l'Elysée Montmartre, mais J L Pierce était fatigué, malgré tout inoubliable...
So Much Face does a killer cover of this song. JLP lives on.
R.I.P. Dee Pop !

@cordedpoodle but not in this case.

Is he playing an ES-175?

Love the Gun Club but the 'like' was for Patricia. ..
who is the guitarist at this gig?
don't be mad, they sprayed the crowd with horse barbiturates before
Unaccountably comatose audience = some premo heroin
Do they play in open G or E?
Kelly Moon neither, its played in standard here.
On the album it may have been open E
Wow that girl can play bass.
