      Shoutout to Jared for the EAD10! Mine was stolen years ago and I’ve not been able to get one again. My toddler LOVED IT! I actually managed to talk Samash into selling me their only one from the showroom floor about 1-2 months before they were released for retail! I miss it so much. I’d trade almost any of my gear for one.

    Tommy: I’m keeping my studio simple, don’t want to break the bank
    Also Tommy: has 9 snare drums, 4 whole kits, a shelf of cymbals, hundreds of dollars worth of acoustic panels, the best preamps + AD/DA box money can buy

      He has forgotten that most of us have very little money. He also has a top of the line Mac, software, mics, cables, and looks to be quite a sizable basement space. Mr. Igoe is way out of touch with the common man. Wouldn't we all want Mr. Igoe's life. He may play well, but he is tone deaf.

      Give Tommy a break. He is a full time professional drummer. What people are clearly missing is that drumming is his BUSINESS. Compared to any retail business owner (for example, a restaurant), his level of initial expense, and his ongoing operational expenses are TINY in comparison. It's not fair to compare him to someone treating drums like a hobby or even part time gig.

    • @fuk503
      @fuk503 4 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      tommy devoted his life to the instrument and all of us get to enjoy the results of his passion and commitment. hes also probably one of the best drummers in the world for it. if tommy's killing it and has a nice setup for his efforts and for the STANDARD that his playing requires then kudos to him. I wouldn't do it any differently if I was his level.

    Thanks Jared. at 50 I'm a "fairly" long-time garage band drummer,(local bands, etc.), who hasn't touched the drums in 5 years since taking up a new hobby, BUT, the itch to play round again keeps creeping back!:) I find Drumeo vids to be my most watched and I'm very close to setting up a practice pad setup in spare room again just to get my hands on the sticks so I Really appreciate videos such as these as well as all the normal guests, etc. to help Motivate/push me on alittle further in getting back at it...Thanks Again!

    Tommy saying "too many choices is the enemy of creativity because you wind up playing with gear" hit me straight in the gut when I think back to the number of times I sat down at a synth to make music and ended up auditioning sounds for three hours and then quitting.

    Holy Crap. This is the best video I have ever watched. How fantastic is this to watch some of the best drummers on the planet show us their practise space in their homes. I am so humbled by these drummers as they share their private space to all of us and all of their equipment for playing and recording as well as their teaching to students. So enlightening. New respect to all of these great drummers/musicians. Rock On Drumeo!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @FanaticDrummer
    @FanaticDrummer 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Probably what I needed to hear and see. I have a Clarett X, and top end Audix mics for my Bubingas and still think I need more. Because im a perfectionist. I want album quality done my way but always think I need more when in reality, I just need a mixologist to perfect the final result instead of me trying to get a finished sound going directly in. But seeing some of these spaces of pros kinda proves you dont need a full fledge studio tracking room. Drums and demands have changed so much. Drummers still have to spend the most money for personal recording set ups but its such a valuable skill and asset to have these days.

      I took a lesson with Todd at that studio! It’s in Austin, TX. He has his main Stixx kit setup in the middle which he kindly let me play on. It has a DW9000 series double pedal and hi hat stands in gold as well as the rims of the kit are gold colored. He has a small jazz kit setup on the side as well. The snare wall there is really cool and he has kits from a lot of his different tours stacked up. There is also an area where he has a computer setup and his recording equipment. His recordings he sends to his sound engineer JR Taylor, who I also have had to the privilege to meet and work with. Good people!

    The hi hat story hit home for me broth’a. My father was my inspiration to play. He played through my childhood with my mother in a country band wear my mom sang and played piano and that very same stand came with his, at the time, a brand new Pearl Export 5pc kit of which I eventually inherited and sits in my garage as I type. With that said, I’m starting a music production company with my lead guitar player called Foxx Light Productions and I was curious, what would you recommend to be the most professional and effective method on approaching potential drum oriented companies for sponsorship? Thanks for the videos and content. Niko Foxx.

    Aside from Jared, most seem remarkably unconcerned about noise blasting the neighbors. I didn't see much in the way of sound isolation.

    • @TommyIgoeMusic
      @TommyIgoeMusic 4 ปีที่แล้ว +12

      That's an excellent point! I'm huge believer in spending the basic cash to make my career and studio exploits invisible to my neighbors. I thought I spoke on this but we had a time limit and maybe it got edited or maybe I just stone cold forgot to mention it. So thanks for noticing and let me give you the inside info now into the strategy to keep Deep Rhythm Studios unnoticed by my neighbors in a very quiet community. There was considerable pressure into making the right choices because to be honest, this was the most expensive studio I've built which I'll explain why later. So we didn't have the budget to do it wrong, and fix it. which basically means, practically building it twice. So construction and design had to work right away or I was going to be forced to switch from drums to accordion.
      The studio is totally floating off the construction beams. Everything is sound isolated on all six surfaces everything floating, acoustic insolation in all air gaps between all studs up and down. everything double acoustic grade sheet rock floating off studs on acoustic construction channels. floor suspended on basically a mat of hockey pucks so it's all floating. And even still, when I'm blasting you can hear some bleed to the civilian world. Thats because there is no such thing as absolute sound proofing, only more effective grades of sound isolation. Water and Sound, If there is a way to find, they find a way. It may take awhile but they always find a way to leak through air, material or direct or sympathetic vibration. However, we can get close! and this is construction turned out to be more than close enough. Never a complaint from neighbors, most have no idea they live next to a drummer honestly. That was the design goal when I had the acoustic engineer draw the specs and it was achieved. Thankfully! Being from the east coast where basements are literally a cultural necessity, this is my first non=subterranean studio. In California, basements are for whatever reason, rare as hell and I still haven't gotten an answer that makes sense why but whatever. No choice so I had to build my first non underground studio. Which sucks because building studios above ground is way more expensive. Basement studios in single home development configurations get about 70 percent of sound isolation built in for free and all all you need to really spend big cash on is the ceiling. How much more expensive? Well, here's the deal, this new room is slightly smaller than my room was on the east coast, but cost 5x MORE to build. But it works and the room sounds the best of all the studios I've built so far. More experience means smarter choices. But still out of respect for my neighbors, I don't go full volume after 10pm on the kit and to be honest by 10pm after working with audio all day, the last thing I want to do is play the drums loudly or even hear music at all. Rest for your ears is absolutely crucial. So the studio is open and running 24/7 and as long as I can mix on my speakers play keyboards and do other work 24/7 then the design was a success. The WIM TRIO was cut at this studio with quite a few 3AM guitar tracks being thrown down at full crunch blast volume. No complaints! Phew!
      So, I hope this helped a bit. Thanks for checking it out and thanks to drumeo for the privilege of participating and sharing with the drumeo family what I've learned over the years.

    very nice to see this. All of you are such a wonderful asset to the drumming word. I mean that! I just wish Juan ‘Carlito’ Mendoza would say his name slower. He says at warp speed. Tommy Igoe is one of my Idols. All of you keep safe and I hope to see you soon.

    Hey Jared, where did you get that whisper room / Beat Box ? Please tell me more about it that sweat sound-proof set-up you have. Did you build it or buy it ?
