Steve Mcqueen is a classic. My fave is "Bonny". Also like "Appetite" and this one. Paddy Mcaloon (the main guy) is an unsung genius

I'm a huge Prefab Sprout fan, this remains my favourite song of theirs, it's an absolutely beautiful, atmospheric and poignant masterpiece. Saw them live many years ago and they were amazing. Also love 'Cars and Girls', and 'We Let The Stars Go' is gorgeous. If you haven't listened to Jordan - The Comeback album, I absolutely recommend it, there is some incredible stuff on there. 😊❤

This is a must-have!! I got into this band in 1985, last year of high school, and still listen to them! Good song writing, good arrangement, and yearning vocals of love and sympathy, which never go bad.

There were quite a few bands very similar to Prefab Sprout in the UK back in the mid-1980's. Deacon Blue, Danny Wilson, etc. The Blue Nile, however, were very different. Much more sombre and melancholy, especially their debut album.

@@AlexHaitz Thanks for the reply, Alex. I'm from Scotland, home of The Blue Nile, and their debut album, A Walk Across The Rooftops, is a genuine classic and still very popular today. Enjoying your channel. All the best.

The production and keyboard programming was by the inimitable Thomas Dolby ... Funfact: Dolby also did the ethereal keyboard parts on Foreigner's "Waitin' for a girl like you"

This is an excellent band. I was 13 when this song came out and there was a tsunami of brilliant music at thst time-so many great songs. I connected better with those bands later on in my 20s but I certainly soaked in everything growing up because there were so many interesting bands then.

Solid analysis. The John Hughes pull was apt. Bonny should be next on your list for Prefab Sprout

Great choice. An album produced by Thomas Dolby. Not the best song on the album, but sound production is beautiful. I agree with you about The Blue Nile and this band.

Great band, as well of the songs mentioned above I’d recommend The Golden Calf which has a rockier tempo (although that’s a relative rockier to this chilled out classic). 👍🏻

Great album. I quite like that blandness of Prefab Sprout. It's an intelligent, entertaining blandness. If that's possible.

    Loved this song right off.
I first learned of them when they came out with “King Of Rock and Roll”
    Awesome and cute song.
They did quite a few songs that I think are brilliant.
I don’t think they got the love they deserved.
It’s sweet and intelligent music isn’t it?
I loved watching you enjoy it.

I must admit, although I quite like King Of Rock 'n' Roll as a song, I can't stand the recording. For me, Thomas Dolby's production *ruins* it. It was only when I saw Paddy McAloon doing an acoustic take of it that I realised that there was a nice song in there.
