Great job on the cables! I have been stymied by the D-sub mini coax HP interconnect cables before, and didn’t even know how these connectors were called, let alone that you can still buy them. I’ve learned something!

Thanks! I think out of all the info in this video, teaching folks about those cables was the most important thing I wanted to touch on. Hopefully my videos and that forum post can be a resource for anyone working with these units, and probably other types of HP equipment which use obscure interconnects like that.

This is an awesome video. After many years, I just hadn't gotten around to calibrating HP 8443A/B tracking generator counter>.
Thanks for making this so easy and sorry I can only add one like.
    Well done.

Thanks! I'm really glad if this video can be useful for you, and sorry I don't have the time/equipment to go through all the calibration steps like I did on the 141T mainframe.

Amazingly, I looked up info on the 141T on a lark yesterday after I got mine in the mail.
I found your CRT calibration vids first. Now, right as I learn that I need a tracking generator to do what I need, I check your channel to see that you posted a video about it only 6 days ago.
Most serendipitous. Please, as time permits, keep them coming. I enjoy them for both info and style.

Thanks! I'm always happy to hear when my videos can help people. I was thinking that I might do a companion video on the 8445A/B preselector with the 8555A plugin that I own at some point, but given that this is my first video in about 7 years, I think it is fair to that say my upload schedule is pretty irregular, haha.

@veraxis9961 oh yeah, I'd love to know more about that one. There's info out there on these things, but these videos make it so much easier to digest.
I heard that on an irregular upload schedule. Life is a funny thing.

I love my 141T. I am keen on microwave amateur frequencies and use the 8555 RF plugin. I have the preselector also.
Wish there was a tracking generator for the 8555.

They are great units. I was introduced to the 141T through amateur radio, and I am quite fond of them as well. I have an 8445 preselector also, so I might do a video on that at some point. An 18GHz tracking generator would have been awesome, haha.

@@veraxis9961 It would be awesome! I have the external mixer also which extends the range to 40GHz. It works well!

I have one but never works correctly! I made a cable with 2 old monitor cables not the VGA one but I don't have the plastic insert... Better use a nanoVNA not this unstable thing! hihi

Yeah, finding that cable is the real trick to getting these working. I'm sure something could be improvised, but without real coaxial contacts it will probably be very janky. It is also possible there could be other issues. Sadly I only have this one unit, so I don't know what the common failure modes are. A real VNA is definitely more capable than this, but these boxes and the parts to build a cable aren't too expensive when someone might already own an 8553 SA.
