    I was at this show in my home town. A few notes:
    - First show I ever went to was at this venue on May 16, 1995 WWF ran 4 superstars tapings here. WWE would return in 2005 for a Smackdown house show.
    - ECW planned to run a TNN taping here in January 2000 but made it a house show where Jerry Lynn injured his leg putting him on the shelf for a while promising us a tv taping at a future date which became this pay per view. They returned in June for a TNN taping and in September for a house show.
    - TNA ran a house show here in January 2010 with Kurt Angle and AJ Styles and drew less than 1,000 people.
    - I graduated in this building 2 years after this pay per view.

      Actually, I think Strummer is a better analogy. WWECW can be equated to the Clash mk. 2, since both of them started out with the best intentions but then got ruined by higher ups (Vince McMahon, Bernie Rhodes.)

    • @fuzzydunlop7928
      @fuzzydunlop7928 3 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Talent-wise, ECW still had a lot in the tank. The only terminal illness was the financial side of things, Heyman reached further than he could realistically grasp. If ECW survived, it’d probably (by downsizing) just end up resembling ROH due to the influx of new talent in the 2000’s with some leftover CZW antics - both those companies exist because ECW went under, pretty much. They filled the vacuum on a local level.

    Overall thoughts on this show:
    -Dusty being in ECW is something I completely forgot ever happened. Imagine if Heyman managed to convince Rhodes to buy a share of the company, if they had a recognizable big name as part of his inner circle, that would have been interesting.
    -Sandman's wife getting Gore'd through the table is insanely tough and all the kudos to her for taking that bump.
    -Mike Awesome rules. That is all.
    -The fact that New Jack is still alive after Vic's fat ass landed on his head is an absolute miracle. One of the sickest spills I've ever seen. Pls don't hurt me Jack, no one deserves to have THAT happen.
    -On the topic of that, Brian should have shown the clip of Jack vs. Grimes in XPW, because that's an equally insane fall. He completely missed the tower of TWELVE tables and landed right on the top rope, and bounced back into the ring. How in God's name was the worst injury he got was a dislocated ankle?
    -I love Cyrus on commentary. He's so good at being a smarmy prick.
    Overall, it's an okay show.

      More like, “that time Vic Grimes got cold feet and almost killed New Jack” - I’ll be honest, I have no sympathy for Vic here. He said he’d take the bump and then at the moment of truth wussed out, after climbing a scaffolding. How can you possibly work the rest of the match after climbing back down? You can’t climb a high thing in wrestling without SOME sort of payoff and if you can’t do it, THEN SAY SO BEFORE CLIMBING THE THING in the first place, otherwise the crowd will expect a crescendo.

    So you say "ref bumps don't matter in ECW", and you're mostly right. But in the case of Rhino and Super Crazy, it makes sense because Super Crazy was hitting his finish, and taking out the ref meant that there would be no one to count the pin, and the ref would absorb the blow from the last moonsault, so even if a replacement ref ran in, Rhino would be in a better position than if he, y'know, just ate Super Crazy's finish.

    • @anthony99846
      @anthony99846 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Kevin White glad someone else brought this up, you could also argue, Rhino used the ref to take the hit so Rhino can then shift the momentum of the match and get the upper hand on Crazy. Then rhino can hit his moves and hopefully the ref gets up in time to make the count or another ref comes in like you said.

    I've been going through ECW shows on the Network and PPV, and it so happened I reached this show at the time this video came out. So, here are some additional thoughts:
    Due to the Cyrus/Joey/Gertner interaction and the Corino/Sandman/Lori/Rhino stuff, it was 18 minutes before we got to the first match.
    This show marked the second PPV Sandman was supposed to face Rhino, but did not happen.
    I'd have to go back to the original tape, but it seems as if the WWE Network version had quite a bit clipped since it was only a few minutes over the two hour mark. I believe much of it was due to them cutting several of the entrances, likely due to music copyright issues.
    Super Crazy was never a member of the Network stable. It was Tajiri who was a member until April 2000.
    The elimination of Awesome/Raven during the tag title match was even more baffling considering Awesome took the pin after a Roaring Elbow from Tanaka. These two pretty much had to kill each other to get a pin in their singles matches, and it only took one elbow to end this match?
    I think you overrated most of the matches, as there wasn't anything above 2 1/2 stars IMO. I think it's largely due to the lack of buildup for most of the show, which made it hard to get invested in the matches. IT was too chaotic for my tastes--and way too much Network and Cyrus, which was par for the course for 2000 ECW.

    Omg that New Jack bump always makes me wince in pain knowing his skull got cracked open and he has brain fluid coming out of his nose and ear(s?) - and all the other injuries and permanent damage you spoke of from said fall. New Jack was already a psychotic lunatic but I think this knocked out the few remaining marbles he had left.... After this he did the try and kill Vic Grimes a year later and I believe the Gypsy Joe beating, the indie wrestler he stabbed like 9 times, the 17 year old indie wrestler he carved open in a bar where literally no one seemed to be paying attention; these things were all post (this) fall, right? I feel like this ruined him. He was not very gifted besides gimick matches but he could cut a great promo and who knows what he could have been if not all the drugs and brain injuries and damage
