Im from NJ, been a vegetarian for 10 years but i want to end it by becoming a fisherman and fishing for my own food. I see a lot of other fishermen from NJ on reddit concerned about the safety of eating from NJ waters because theyre not clean, and you should only eat certain fish once a week or month, and they recommend going to NY or PA instead. I would really rather fish in NJ close to home as possible in freshwater spots but im definitely willing to travel throughout NJ. Could you leave a comment with your advice on what you think are healthy waters in NJ that you would eat from and how often would you eat what you catch? I love your channel, its bringing me closer and closer to starting to fish. Thanks a lot.
Hey Christian, thank you for the support! I’m glad you like the channel! For NJ fish harvesting, check out the state's interactive advisory map, detailing locations and advisories by county. I prefer saltwater fish due to lower bacteria levels, though I'm no scientist. I try my best to follow the advisories. I probably eat a meal once every few weeks to monthly at best. It varies though. In the summer I eat a little more and the off season less. But definitely not daily from these waters. Ultimately, I'd rather occasionally catch my own meal than buy store-bought fish, considering the complexities of farmed fish... That's a whole other topic! Hope this helps.
