This is the reality for people all over the country who work full time jobs that don't pay enough for them to live -- during times when there isn't a shutdown! The help and understanding needs to continue for those families after the shutdown ends. It's not just federal workers during a shutdown. It's full-time workers all the time who don't get paid enough for their work but can't get higher-paying jobs because there aren't enough fair-wage jobs available.
I totally agree with this video but let's not forget that 10s of thousands of nongovernmental workers who work full-time for places like WalMart have to rely on foodstamps in regular times to make ends meet. 1.5 million children are homeless in this country. Why are we worried about fully-employed government workers who miss a couple of paychecks over a 30-year career? How many of them had to sleep in a car last night in the middle of winter? The priorities in this country are fucked up beyond belief.
That's the one thing I really admire about the older folks both Democrat and Republican. No matter what political leaning they would go to churches and community centers and give out supplies and cook food for people. the most important thing is letting people know that even if they struggle others will be there to support them on a personal level.
When I grocery shop, I make sure to pick up several extra cans: of fruit, beans, soup, tuna fish, pasta sauce. I bring those by our local food pantry bin, quietly add it to the growing batch of food items, donated by wonderful neighbors. But truth is, we do this year round. My husband is a veteran, a retired merchant seaman. Fortunately, we are fine - not in need at present. But never so smug as to say we might not, down the road, suffer some reversal. My husband has received excellent care here in the NYC facility on 23rd street. Our credit union has been most caring, and offered us help if we needed it. Thus far, we're good. I urge people who need help, to reach out. There are resources. And neighbors keeping an eye.

There's no shame in anyone reaching out for help during hard times, and it's great to see so many charities and food pantries that are reaching out to people. What gets me however, is that people with low-incomes have had to rely on various organizations such as this for far longer than just this past month. It just looks as though it only deserves national attention once it starts to hit people closer to the middle class. I'm not trying to belittle the problem in any way, I myself rely on food pantries when I'm able to travel far enough out to get to the nearest one in my area. If anything beneficial comes from these troubling times, I just hope that it makes people of higher incomes more humble moving forward. No matter your social status, we all need to learn to help each other out, not just when it affects one of your own.
Please think about this. Your problem is that people weren't being paid enough, that a single month without a paycheck forces them into food banks. Your solution is to make the same poor people donate to help the self fortunate than themselves!? WTF People!? All I can say is folks need to start growing their own vegetables. I’ve had a vegetable patch in my backyard since 2008. I’ve got more food independence than most folks my age. I’m able to share what I grow. I invested in mason jars, a sauerkraut croc and a canning pot. I recently purchased a chest style freezer so I can freeze the tomatoes I grow. I rotate the things I grow. I only use hand tools. I don’t till anything. I use a broad fork to loosen up soil in the spring. I plant cover crops to protect my soil during the winter. I also practice a companion planting method by Louise Riotte and her book called Carrots Love Tomatoes. Louise Riotte was from Oklahoma and developed her growing methods on land that is recovering from the Dust Bowl. Why do I mention the Dust Bowl? Well, our current methods of farming are going to bring on another Dust Bowl if we’re not careful.
I guess making America great again means millions are out of jobs going to food banks losing houses and cars. My heart goes out to all the people affected.
It is time for Americans to change their consumption pattern and try to save a little contingent money just in case. Nowhere else on the earth would a 29 days of shutdown make such an impact, honestly.

1.5 million children are homeless in this country. Why are we worried about fully-employed government workers who miss a couple of paychecks over a 30-year career? How many of them had to sleep in a car last night in the middle of winter? The priorities in this country are fucked up beyond belief.

That's the one thing I really admire about the older folks both Democrat and Republican. No matter what political leaning they would go to churches and community centers and give out supplies and cook food for people. the most important thing is letting people know that even if they struggle others will be there to support them on a personal level.
When I grocery shop, I make sure to pick up several extra cans: of fruit, beans, soup, tuna fish, pasta sauce. I bring those by our local food pantry bin, quietly add it to the growing batch of food items, donated by wonderful neighbors. But truth is, we do this year round. My husband is a veteran, a retired merchant seaman. Fortunately, we are fine - not in need at present. But never so smug as to say we might not, down the road, suffer some reversal. My husband has received excellent care here in the NYC facility on 23rd street. Our credit union has been most caring, and offered us help if we needed it. Thus far, we're good. I urge people who need help, to reach out. There are resources. And neighbors keeping an eye.
Trump went Chapter 11 at least 4 times and one failed airline and so far doing the same for farmers, public employees , and the rest of USA honestly 2 more years of this will be bad for the USA

Dear government workers, welcome to the real world in everyday America. Get in line. There were many people here long before you showed up.
There's no shame in anyone reaching out for help during hard times, and it's great to see so many charities and food pantries that are reaching out to people. What gets me however, is that people with low-incomes have had to rely on various organizations such as this for far longer than just this past month. It just looks as though it only deserves national attention once it starts to hit people closer to the middle class.
I'm not trying to belittle the problem in any way, I myself rely on food pantries when I'm able to travel far enough out to get to the nearest one in my area. If anything beneficial comes from these troubling times, I just hope that it makes people of higher incomes more humble moving forward. No matter your social status, we all need to learn to help each other out, not just when it affects one of your own.

All I can say is folks need to start growing their own vegetables. I’ve had a vegetable patch in my backyard since 2008. I’ve got more food independence than most folks my age. I’m able to share what I grow. I invested in mason jars, a sauerkraut croc and a canning pot. I recently purchased a chest style freezer so I can freeze the tomatoes I grow. I rotate the things I grow. I only use hand tools. I don’t till anything. I use a broad fork to loosen up soil in the spring. I plant cover crops to protect my soil during the winter. I also practice a companion planting method by Louise Riotte and her book called Carrots Love Tomatoes.
Louise Riotte was from Oklahoma and developed her growing methods on land that is recovering from the Dust Bowl. Why do I mention the Dust Bowl? Well, our current methods of farming are going to bring on another Dust Bowl if we’re not careful.
I guess making America great again means millions are out of jobs going to food banks losing houses and cars. My heart goes out to all the people affected.
