      Just wish Dave didn't try to push her to buy a car. It's a metal box on wheels, as long as it's running who cares if it's proportional to your income? He kept saying that she needed to upgrade because she made so much money, that's like the definition of lifestyle creep.

Now I’m about to be 30 this year and I’ve finally woken up to the dumpster fire I created and I’m working diligently to put it out. With the income I have now and how much it is expected to increase to in the future hopefully I can get out of debt completely in about 5-10 years. I can relate to the woman with the mother-in-law without any boundaries! My daughter’s father and his mother are like that (we aren’t together anymore), but over the years it became clear they are BOTH codependent (and know it), but can’t stop the cycle…there are other issues there, BUT, some ppl really go ahead and interfere in their adult children’s lives without asking but then act like “what would you do without me”? So it’s more a fear of being irrelevant I think..maybe? And he never has to face any consequences of his bad decisions because she always swoops in and pays for or arranges whatever is required to fix his messes. I pray you guys manage your way out of this unhealthy dynamic. I am good friends with my “would be” mother-in-law now, but I DO have that separation and had to learn to set firm boundaries with her. For example dropping off bags and bags of used clothing that I never liked for my daughter or myself, so I would simply give it right back to her after I tried asking nicely that she stop. I didn’t have space or need the extra work of taking it BACK to the thrift store lol so she got the hint… eventually… and stopped doing it amoung other things (like fully rearranging my kitchen while visiting to her liking 🥴) It ain’t easy and wasn’t always pretty, but stick to your convictions! You know what is healthy and right, keep aiming for it and stand strong. It will pay off! 🙏🏼✨❤️ Praying for you!!!!

      @@smithgabrielle101 They usually post them at least once in the video - but you can also google "Dave Ramsey's seven baby steps" for more info about each one. Personally, I do not agree with #5 coming before #6. If you pay off your house early, you can cash flow the college and other expenses like a wedding. Too many retirees are still trying to pay off their kids' college because they made promises to their kids that affected their own retirement. There are lots of ways to pay for college besides saving early - there are few ways to replace funds you should spend on saving for retirement if you give it all to your kids. The ROI on four-year college degrees is terrible now - fewer than 50% of students who start a four-year degree finish in less than 6 years and they use that time to "find themselves" more than to get an education that leads to a good paying job.
      Baby Step Action to take
      1 Save $1,000 for your starter emergency fund.
      2 Pay off all debt (except your mortgage) using the debt snowball method.
      3 Save three to six months of expenses in an emergency fund.
      4 Invest 15% of your household income for retirement.
      5 Save for your children’s college fund.
      6 Pay off your home early.
      7 Build wealth and give.

    As a retired educator of both high school and college students - parents, listen up: With almost no exceptions your kids are NOT going to pay off your PLUS loans you took out for their education for one simple reason. An 18-year old has NO IDEA about what the cost of paying back a big loan means. If you need to take out a PLUS loan for your kid, your kid needs to choose a less expensive college option. Don't sacrifice your retirement for your kids' college education! I don't care if you have $500,000 or more - that can disappear in a heartbeat with end-of-life medical expenses!!!

    Many fathers to be don't pay child support until the baby arrives. Oft times paternity is challenged and nothing is given until paternity has been established. In Maryland, eviction procedures can start as early as a week after the due date. The court date is usually one week after filing. One week after the court appearance, the landlord can start filing for possession of the property if rent is not paid. Very quick turn around.

    That first, pregnant, 27 yo lady. So alone. Hope she gets her bearings. Not fun finding yourself at such situation in life.
    Finally, perhaps she should try and work for another salon to work at for now (it sounded like she is trying to do this on her own, and it is never easy at first and it takes much longer than people think.

    Why do people call in and argue about the advice given? Dave said to the guy $95,000 in debt and wanting to have a $9.500 wedding in April: "I will tell you what you should do and then you can decide what you will do." Correct. They are already married and they just want a party. OK - lots of ways they can have a party for a whole lot less and have a memorable event. Debt can make you creative - lots of places to get beautiful wedding dresses (or rent one) for not much money; have a bonfire cookout and roast hotdogs and marshmallows; rent two food trucks in a city park; have the wedding on a Friday or Sunday; do a morning wedding with a brunch (a lot less costly than a dinner); do a three-day cruise wedding and let all the guests buy their own tickets (cost would be under $2,000 for everything on most cruise ships and tickets are cheap in off season). Mobile is an embarkation point for cruises and within driving distance of Huntsville. Many low-cost venues if you look for one. If the bride insists on a big party for "her" day, just remember this will likely NOT be the last time she still wants to spend while you're in debt. Both my daughters chose inexpensive wedding dresses (actually from the Bridesmaid section!), but both of them now wish they had rented one b/c the dresses (after an expensive dry clean that cost more than the dress) have remained in a box ever since.

    • @Trustbutverify2651
      @Trustbutverify2651 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      He dud not say "car payment." He said transportation. The Ramsey folks do not condone car payments (for obvious reasons, not the least of which is that most people are immediately upside down) - they state all the time that a person should save up and buy a car with CASH. Mathematically, if someone who takes a car loan cannot pay it off in its entirety in 3 years, that person will be upside down. So many people roll over the remaining debt into the next car loan payment and then, not surprisingly, find themselves trying to pay off a $60,000 "car" which is really worth only $30,000 even new. Personally, I don't think this show gives enough MATHEMATICAL calculations on what cars can do to people. Car payments are as dangerous as student loans and CC debt because too much car also results in expensive repairs (when needed) and high personal property tax (in states where you have to pay it.) In my state, you only get your personal property tax bill for your car 2 weeks before it is due - and the whole lump sum is due all at once and can be well over $1,000 for a new(er) car - and that's only ONE car. So what do people do? Put the expense on a CC!
