This movie has always moved me. Maybe it comes from the abuse as a child, but when he hugs Will and tells him it isnt his fault that gets me every time.
Part of it. When we live that, we are dying for someone to be a father...which RW was to Will. He wasn't a counselor, he was dad...ish. I can't read the comment "it's not your fault" without a visceral feeling. That's why this movie, Rocky, and Karate Kid get us grown men to cry. So. let me share with you something, the first time I went to Boston after Robin Williams passed away, I went to Boston Commons and I found the bench they're at, and I cried for about an hour. Robin Williams was like my sadness cure, all his movies from Mrs. Doubtfire to The Birdcage always made me laugh and feel better no matter how bad the day was. Thank you guys for always viewing these movies and sharing with us your reactions, so I wanted to share a moment of mine with you
My favorite scene is when Ben Affleck’s character tells him that he doesn’t want him wasting his potential. That he wants him to use that brain of his to go live a better life. And that although he loves being around his best friend he wishes that when he arrives at his house to not see him there and instead see that he packed up and left.
Affleck's character is really a true friend. He wants his friend to have a better life, even if it means that he doesn't ever see him again or even get to say goodbye. He'd be at peace just knowing his friend had done it.
The bench scene with Robin Williams monologue is just amazing acting. This is my favorite role of his. Such a great screenplay. The way Will tells her he doesn't love her is such a dagger, and it always hurts to watch, even when I know the ending.

I love Ellie, but I CAN NOT BELIEVE THIS. I'm in shock over here trying to understand this. She just watched Good Will Hunting and didn't shed a single tear. Not even during the "It's not your fault" scene. I once watched her cry during Wonder Woman, and it wasn't even an emotional scene. Wonder Woman was beating people up and she was all tears! But orphans being physically abused, leading to years of trauma and emotional detachment, and nothing from her!

This is one of the movies that is a must-watch before you die. The writing, the dialogue, acting, and chemistry of each pair....just so good! I'd HIGHLY RECOMMEND A Beautiful Mind. As it is based on a real person who was a prodigy and with mental health issues.

I went to the place they filmed the bench scene looking out over the water in Boston and people had written quotes from the movie on the walkway in front of the bench in different colors of chalk. I still remember standing there with several other people I've never met looking at it and reading all the words. "Your move Chief" is one I'll never forget. The movie is brilliant, but Robin Williams was able to squeeze our hearts for every tear without much effort at all. His roles in "Dead Poet's Society" and "What Dreams May Come" really show the softer side of Robin Williams. R.I.P. Mork!

Amazing that Matt and Ben started writing this when they were teens, having zero idea how to script write! And then won Oscars! And how they got Robin and Stellen to star in this movie I'll never know! After Robin died, Matt said he goes to the park bench once a year on his or Robin's bday, and sometimes takes his kids. The city has made that park bench an official memorial. Pro tip. The, wife farting, scene. That part was adlibbed! While it isn't quite as good as this one, it's still an excellent film and also happens to be Sean Connery's 2nd to last role before retiring, after the trainwreck known as The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen killed his desire to continue acting.

He bought a plot of land in Montana where he could live as minimalistically as possible, but over time, his private sanctuary was slowly encroached upon by development further estranging himself and creating a deep resentment to those who he thought bared responsibility for what he perceived as the destruction of earth. He soon turned radical and began sending improvised bombs to (what at the time seemed unrelated targets) people who he thought were primary role-player's in the worlds destruction. His spree of terrorism occurred between early 80's to mid 90's and was rather intriguing in American culture and rather relevant during the making of the movie. On a side note, Ted wrote a manifesto that he demanded be posted in national newspapers which led to his apprehension, as his sister-in-law noticed the manifesto has similar prose as what Ted routinely wrote to his brother David, who ended up reporting him to the FBI. I believe you can find his manifesto online somewhere, its surprisingly well thought out considering it was literally the first draft. While Ted is still alive, hes currently incarcerated and likely has terminal prostate cancer though i dont think thats been officially stated.
You know, I thought the same thing about my gf when we first started seeing each other. The first few movies we watched that usually inspire waterworks & had me with rivers down my face, she sat there staring blankly and never reacted. Comedies, same thing, she never laughed. I thought it was something wrong, but then we were walking past the train station on the way to a show one day and an elderly homeless man was sitting there shivering. She broke down in tears & couldn't stop crying. She stopped me & insisted we go get a blanket and a hot meal to bring him. We were late for the show and knew we'd miss it if we didn't get there before the doors closed & wouldn't be able to get a refund or anything, but she didn't care. She brought the old man a big, piping hot meal and I got him a waterproof blanket. She made sure we went back there to check on the guy at least a few times a month and would always bring him something we thought he might need or would make him a little more comfortable. Eventually, she convinced him to go to a shelter, then eventually to talk to his family, then eventually to go visit them, then his family eventually invited him to come live with them. He's got a job at a cornershop in another city where he lives with his kid & grandkids now, but he still calls to talk every week or so. I don't remember the name of the show we missed, but I'll never forget what she did for that old man in need. I asked her about the movie thing & she didn't even realize she wasn't outwardly reacting - it was just the way she was with movies. Talking about the movies later on, though, she shows all the emotion in the world. It's just a quirk, and I'm so happy I didn't make a poor decision about being with her based on a poor assumption.
Love this movie... but I have to tell you I don't give good odds on that car making it 3,100 miles from Boston to California 🤣🤣 Couple new suggestions: "The Game" (1997) with Michael Douglas, "Memento" (2000), and "Shutter Island" (2010) with Leonardo DiCaprio. You'll be asking yourselves what the hell is going on with all three of those. Great reaction!

Hello. I’d like to recommend a movie for you to react to. In my opinion it is very underrated and probably no one would ever vote for. But I think you should watch “With Honors” (1994). It’s no “Good Will Hunting”, but I think it’s a really great movie that does not get enough credit.
Anyone that has seen a therapist will know: no professional will talk to his patients the way Robin does. He talks to Matt as if they’re simply friends. In reality the therapist mostly asks questions & it’s not personal
Most therapists, and I mean 99.999%, will never work with a 20 year old who has a genius level intellect. Nevermind the personality and mental issues. That circumstance demands unorthodox methods.

My wife is a licensed therapist. She said you have to use whatever tools you can to build rapport with the client. It doesn't mean you're their friend, but you can't sit there stonefaced in an authoritarian high chair and expect to make the connection with the client you have to make to help them.

On a side note, Ted wrote a manifesto that he demanded be posted in national newspapers which led to his apprehension, as his sister-in-law noticed the manifesto has similar prose as what Ted routinely wrote to his brother David, who ended up reporting him to the FBI. I believe you can find his manifesto online somewhere, its surprisingly well thought out considering it was literally the first draft. While Ted is still alive, hes currently incarcerated and likely has terminal prostate cancer though i dont think thats been officially stated.

It's weird watching people with no remorse or empathy..... Tears have no sway with those that have none to give.
You know, I thought the same thing about my gf when we first started seeing each other. The first few movies we watched that usually inspire waterworks & had me with rivers down my face, she sat there staring blankly and never reacted. Comedies, same thing, she never laughed. I thought it was something wrong, but then we were walking past the train station on the way to a show one day and an elderly homeless man was sitting there shivering. She broke down in tears & couldn't stop crying. She stopped me & insisted we go get a blanket and a hot meal to bring him. We were late for the show and knew we'd miss it if we didn't get there before the doors closed & wouldn't be able to get a refund or anything, but she didn't care. She brought the old man a big, piping hot meal and I got him a waterproof blanket. She made sure we went back there to check on the guy at least a few times a month and would always bring him something we thought he might need or would make him a little more comfortable. Eventually, she convinced him to go to a shelter, then eventually to talk to his family, then eventually to go visit them, then his family eventually invited him to come live with them. He's got a job at a cornershop in another city where he lives with his kid & grandkids now, but he still calls to talk every week or so. I don't remember the name of the show we missed, but I'll never forget what she did for that old man in need. I asked her about the movie thing & she didn't even realize she wasn't outwardly reacting - it was just the way she was with movies. Talking about the movies later on, though, she shows all the emotion in the world. It's just a quirk, and I'm so happy I didn't make a poor decision about being with her based on a poor assumption.

Hello. I’d like to recommend a movie for you to react to. In my opinion it is very underrated and probably no one would ever vote for. But I think you should watch “With Honors” (1994). It’s no “Good Will Hunting”, but I think it’s a really great movie that does not get enough credit.

Anyone that has seen a therapist will know: no professional will talk to his patients the way Robin does. He talks to Matt as if they’re simply friends. In reality the therapist mostly asks questions & it’s not personal

@@rastiga9196 - Most therapists are far more unstable than the people who come to them for help. Take a gander at an average bunch of college kids studying psychology, and you'll realize that 99% of them are nuttier than squirrel shit.
My wife is a licensed therapist. She said you have to use whatever tools you can to build rapport with the client. It doesn't mean you're their friend, but you can't sit there stonefaced in an authoritarian high chair and expect to make the connection with the client you have to make to help them.
