i recently started attacking the bots early on with less troops, at the start about 1k, later 4-8%. its a bit "micro"-intensiv to adjust the slider all the time, but at the end of the bot phase i have severly more troops than my neighbours. this helped me especially against ppl that i boxed in or ppl who tried to attack me early on.
