    Seen a BC clinic where he stated:
    Don't matter if you hold it traditional right or left hand, or traditional on BOTH hands, don't matter if you hold the very back end or the "taper" of the stick in a traditional way, it's all about control"
    He held both sticks traditional and held them about an inch behind the Tip!! And could STILL play smooth rudiments. It was Nuts!!
    He suggested taping a quarter to the head and practice on that tiny spot.
    There's nothing Billy can't do.

    Cool man. Not many of you out there. I've got an old video of Cobham playing w/ Horace Silver, where he plays right hand traditional. Looks super cool!! You seldom see it. Are you a Cobham fan, or did you stumble across the video?

    Having watched this I'm confident that if I chose to drum I would play much more complex things twice as fast and more smoothly. Therefore as ever, my work is done...

      @@josteinv.jordet257 Obviously, he's left-handed (or ambidextrous) and plays a right-handed kit. That's what always gave him an edge...his left-hand-lead fills.

    Never really thought rudiments or tuition videos helped anyone, apart from producing clones. You've either got it or you don't. Now it seems we're saturated with drum-offs and intellectual pap. One thing the internet has accelerated for sure.
    Once in a while, someone interesting comes along. Has nothing to do with drum culture and pissing competitions.

    • @fuzzylogiceire
      @fuzzylogiceire 9 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      Samsgarden Not practicing rudiments limits you massively as a drummer. And no, learning them won't make you sound like a clone. You can only sound like yourself, with your own mixture of influences, musical styles practiced and technique. Only one Tony Williams, one Gadd, one Vinnie etc. Regarding "you've got it or you don't", natural talent will only get you so far. It's mostly hard work.

    • @Samsgarden
      @Samsgarden 9 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      fuzzylogiceire Yes, rudiments are important
