Mr. Jim, just a friendly note: you referred to the wire leads on the stator as the positive and the negative. The stator produces AC voltage. It is converted then to DC voltage via a rectifier/regulator or by a diode so the engine can use the current. By the way, for someone who is not a "Gearhead," as you called it, you are doing a great job!
