For this week's Show and Tell, Norm invites you back into his home office to check out two of his new favorite things--both Star Wars themed! The first is a great Death Star rug from Thinkgeek, and the second is a 1/6th scale Imperial Probe Droid model that Norm has upgraded with some minor hacking.
Check out artist Jason Eaton's Studio Scale Probe Droid model here: www.mystery10.c...

sorry about the garbled audio on the upload last night--hope this fixes it! -Norm
***** truth
Thanks Norm :)
Norm talking about star wars... the happiest nerd on earth.
Am I the only person who couldn't stop staring at that Captain America shield? You have to do a video on it Norm. It looks amazing and I'd love to find out more about it.
Norm, without Will,is much easier to follow.Clear, concise, and un-interrupted.Thanks for the intro into a neat model.
Awesome Probe Droid! Awesome Death Star rug! Awesome Captain America Shield! Awesome IKEA - KALLAX, Shelving unit! Awesome everything!!
that rug was really fucking with my sense of perspective for a minute!
That's some cool stuff and all, but what I really got from this video was - those socks look SUPER comfy
Very nice Norm :)
Love the stay puff .. he is huge
Man. That droid sound is permanently engraved in my brain from playing Shadows of the Empire on the N64 as a kid.
I think Norm should do a tour of his room like Adam did, looks like there is a ton of cool stuff in there.
HYPERDYNE?! Wow that brings back memories...
It would be cool to get a home office and desk tour from Will and Norm...
Norm: Bookshelf contents show & tell video? What and why would be interesting-especially how you choose what makes the cut for finite space.
I really hope you write an article about your modifications, they are awesome!
Very cool. It would be great to see the process of how you modified the Droid model.
I'm liking Norm more and more. He seems to have changed in some way since I first started watching Tested videos. DON'T STOP SAYING FIGGER NORM.
Moebius designed it, it features in Dan o Bannons story "The Long Tomorrow"..which makes it doubly cool and i got one with my Hoth Base Star Wars figure set, would LOVE this preeemo version.if i didn't give all my money to my dentist. Nice Show and tell thanks !!!the Def Star Rug is da BOMB!!
Awesome modifications!
awesome,.. the imperial probe droid is my fav
frimmin on the frim fram!
would be good to have a full office tour video Norm
Love the how nerdy your house is! Good vibes man your my favourite dude on tested.
i was gettin tripped out by how 3D it is:L i thought it was a beanbag at first:L
Cool model and cool mods. The head seems pretty wonky, though. Is that intentional, or something on your list to fix? Is the stock model like that, or is that a result of the mods?
I'm glad I'm not the only one who thought that. Cool project, just curious where the head wobble came from.
normal thing shouldn't be like that... he should have mentioned his mod made it look like that :P
I would do the mod if it wasn't wonky. If the motion sensor worked, the antennae went up and it played sound... yup all day!
Are you going to be doing a walk through of how you modded the figure?
Very nice of you to share! Good mod; you going to smooth out that jump in the "track?" As a sign of how far gone I must be-- when you dropped in that quick shot of you playing "X-Wing chases TIE Fighter" my brain -- without prompting -- added the Ben Burtt in-flight sound effects...
I thought he said only sixteen dollars, which I agreed was indeed pretty reasonable. Sixty, on the other hand, for a little rug that is "imported" and isn't even washable. . .
Loving these videos! Keep em up, Norm!
I'd love to see a version of this with a quadcopter inside! Make it happen, Norm.
This needs to be placed on a Roomba..
Not gonna lie, I was way more entranced by your Game Frame there in the back.
How much does it weigh?
An idea is to take a drone (you know the type with 4 fans) and build it into that. Could be kinda cool to fly it around
i know norm gets a lot of greif as ive read on the adams work shop videos but honestly norm your awesome keep doing cool stuff :)
Norm, see if you can mount the motion sensor behind the larger glass eye port. That way you don't have to drill.. You could also.. get a hollow aluminum tube for the base and run a wire down thru it, connected to a USB and power it via PC Usb or external juice pack..
That rug is mind bending.
Great video Norm! Very informative and I can literally feel your passion and interest, please continue doing these videos. Btw, do they use glass for the lenses or is it plastic?
If the modification could be done and make the moving more fluid ( it went up and down instead of smoothly turning it's top ) I would contemplate doing this. Since it's nearly $300... I am hesitant. Is there a detailed step by step guide for that with pictures and or video?
Norm is just to much fun haha
Tou could install a camera inside of it, probably would be the most awesome secret hidden camera ever!
Norm, you are so awesome! I love your enthusiasm! Keep up the great work! A true SW fan!
Backstory of this droid is good. Think it was in IG88 section of bounty hunter tales
can you move the legs (manually)? and can you move the head without doing mods? would be fancy cool to use this to do some fan-animation work
Love the probe droid ! Very cool
"welcome to my home office... This is where I keep my toys..." lmao awesome.
Great mat for playing x-wing the board game on.
Awesome, Norm! Updates us on this when finished! And links to the control board, please. Regards!
Oh, got the links in the desc. Thanks again
Mekhanic1 the board could be replicated with a arduino pro mini and a wtv020 sound module - looks to be what they used for the sound actually. You would get both for about $10 on eBay
awesome dude, it would have been nice is sideshow would have put a motion sensor in the probe.... it really is a no brainer and not much cost to add. Sideshow dropped the ball on that one.
I wish upon a star that one day these tested comment sections will be just as good and civil as the forums. In the meantime I'll grab some popcorn and watch the crap unfold.
The TH-cam comments section is well known as being among the many cesspools of the internet, and is intact tame compared to some places. It's a sad truth of the online world that I wish would change but don't see any likelihood of occurring anytime soon.
polyester... so if you shuffle on the rug. does it build enough of a charge to fire the laser ?
that rug messes with my brain. i thought it was a beanbag chair until a minute in
this video is rad btw
I was sitting here reading some of the comments left by the mindless droids and I thought I might leave a comment worth reading... With the mod that you have started with the movement of the top of the droid you said you were going to add motion sensor so if your already installing that why not go all out awesome and make it where the light comes on and switches color back and forth to.
must. have. probe. droid. NOW.
Really cool. Will you post a vid when you complete the mods on it?
Great stuff Norm! thanks for sharing
Move the arms! A few servos would really add animation there.
I
You might wanna think about a pink-noise generator next time you film in that room to get rid of the echo.
In the words of Homer Simpson,
NEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEERRRD!!
Lol the irony, but seriously, cool stuff Norm.
Is that a full metal Captain America shield!!!!!!
holy shit, i didn't realise it was a mat until the top down view, i thought it was a bean bag
What's the brownish thing in the massive display case behind you?
R.I.P. ThinkGeek
Where did you get your Captain America shield from.
I would love to the probe droid built up with a quadrotor frame so it would fly!
I'd like to see one fitted with a quad-rotor
What would be sweet is if they made one with the innards of those drones kids are flying.
Very nice mod to the droid
What's that fancy-lookin' pixel art thing on your bookshelf?
So cool have you done a step by step guide
Tested
Would you be willing to divulge some info regarding the companion cube item on the shelf?
What's that 8-bit light box in the background? Its really cool! I had to rewatch the video as the first time I was so distracted by it! =)
I want to know as well
They were covered on here one time, it was a kickstarter program which was a success. Game Frame
Thank you =)
It's $230 plus tax plus shipping plus import duty though depending where you are. I think that's a bit ridiculous for an LED array, no matter how nice it looks.
a 16x16 would cost you about 30$ for the leds, an arduino board (anywhere from a few $ to 15$ for a original dev board). it needs a decent enclosure which can cost a bit for a well finished one. But most of it is going to be the labout cost for making them, I'm prety sure every one is hand assembled.
I was always afraid of these for some reason when playing Jedi Outcast when I was little.
...Frankly, I still find them creepy.
man i was hoping that droid was a quadcopter thingy. its on now...
Where can I get that Captain America Shield?
The probe droid sounds like he's saying "get outta the system"
What was that screen in the background? :P
Put the probe droid on top of a Roomba vacuum!
Put the motion sensor in the lenses of the droid,so you don't have to drill
You graduate from GA Tech?
Its so funny when he is like mihin mihin mihp mihp mihp
Norm is a messiah.
High quality 100% polyester rug! Polyester is not High quality, $60 is too much.
Looking forward to progress on the model, I immagine it's hard to work with something that scale.
So when's the Tested episode where Norm comes out of the closet?
caution *DARTH VADER* find you, do not activate the probot !! xD...
Nothing can be 100%, so the carpet isn't 100% polyester, although it might be 99.9% polyester
You are insane if you think polyester is soft.
Out of stock :/
Is norm actually 7?
I love seeing nerds in there natural habitat!
Awesome
how did he get the x wing
Do you know where I can get cheap and high quality star wars action figures?
Any toy stores sells the Hasbro Star Wars figures there like about $10-$20.
Toys R U
I like it.
thats tight
That's no rug...
How old are you?
I want one
i got that probe droid its so bad ass
hat hapenew whit the sound?? is so low
I love your socks
I was hoping it would actually fly :(
nice
