Hey LVD. Have you ever considered to expand your ratings of the deck in the end? Like adding more categories. For example, fun, consistency, cost-effective, complexity, competitive, etc. could be some categories. You could rate this categories up to ten magikarps, which would add a fitting touch to your channel. It is just an idea. What is the opinion of the community about that?
Used to do it for Magic Online decks, although the categories tend to be very subjective and some decks are really difficult to compare on a rating scale.

The deck is supercool but the gameplay is the real mvp here. I'd love to see LVD playing some off-meta decks on competitive environments like those GPlike tourneys that are currently going on. Great vid as always!
Personally, I think my initial assessment of this card is still accurate. Interesting, but requires jumping through too many hoops to make it worth including, let alone building a whole deck around. The real issue is: are there not better 3 mana cards in Esper that are more effective, while being way easier to make work? Let's compare this to a different Ascendancy card we saw in this very video: Brokers Ascendancy. It doesn't require you to have a bunch of specific mana values of cards to function. It just works. It just gives you value, every turn, automatically, so long as you've got creatures on the field. That card does way more, more reliably, for its three color combination, than Obscura Ascendancy does for its three color combination.
Part of me wants to use counter manipulation shenanigans with this Ascendency. It would probably just look like win-more than anything, but I play Magic for two reasons, and the first one, preventing other players from playing Magic, has not made me any friends, while my unconditional love for janky wincons DID. I know this has nothing to do with Arena but this video inspired me to brew a Zur the Enchanter EDH deck based around Obscura Ascendency, comboing with Arcane Adaptation since I can fetch both with my commander. Props to you LVD!
I was trying this kind of deck for a week now, and I noticed that you also need the Chaplain of Alms to use it as a target and cancel it with its ward, besides, its a good earlier blocker. Also, 2 Hallowed Haunting as a way to suddenly create a massive spirit. To follow up, 4 spirits with disturb(enchantments): 2 Dorothea and 2 Brine Comber. The professor was an interesting addition from Legend. Gotta try it. For my 5 mana choice, /I use Kaya, feels like it has a good synergy overall. I really wanna see ppl figuring out this one, is so challenging!

I tried a version with more disturb creatures and a enchantment/spirit theme with Kathilda as a threat that is scary enough on its own. Not good enough to beat meta decks consistently but close, and still tons of fun 😁

Leaves-the-battlefield abilities trigger when a permanent moves from the battlefield to another zone, or when a phased-in permanent leaves the game because its owner leaves the game. These are written as, but aren't limited to, "When [this object] leaves the battlefield, . . ." or "Whenever [something] is put into a graveyard from the battlefield, . . . ." 603.10.) An ability that attempts to do something to the card that left the battlefield checks for it only in the first zone that it went to. An ability that triggers when a card is put into a certain zone "from anywhere" is never treated as a leaves-the-battlefield ability, even if an object is put into that zone from the battlefield.
It depends on whether it's on the stack or not. When an object with X in the mana cost is on the stack, X equals whatever value was chosen for it when it was put on the stack. In any other zone, X equals 0.
That means if you cast the meathook massacre paying 4 mana it's 4 cmc only on the stack, so you can counter it with disdainful stroke, but once it's on the battlefield it's 2 cmc

Making an historic/explorer version of this deck is probably a little easier... Those formats are a lot faster but you have access to stuff like thoughtseize (so you don't have to kill your own stuff) and also stuff like soul diviner (or the spirit that proliferates on combat dmg) that helps you "control" the n° of counters on the ascendancy

As so often, amazing build! I was experimenting with second spell creatures and some X spells to get more spirits and meet the requirements for the 5 counters. It was never in a spot to handle the current played decks but its very fun to play! I like Your build much more, You have some control elements that could make it very playable in Standard! How is Your honest opinion, will will be over 50% WR on the ladder?
Pretty sure the 1st match looks like arcane bombardment.That's what happens with the deck, stall stall stall till you find the card, but it's already too late. LOL Not a fun card to play multiple times.

i always thought that esper ascendancy isnt for standard, but also too slow for older formats, so, dunno. this games are cherry picked for good entertainment, i dont recommend anyone to try this at home because you're gonna delete the deck after the first 3 losses. The idea is potentially awesome, if a janky format was available i'd have played this
