Very nostalgic! Lived in Poole for over 50 years and was lucky enough to see this layout, at that 2018 show, before I retired early and moved to Wales. The thing that sticks in my mind about that day, was how popular that layout was - I tried to get into that room several times, before I eventually did (it was like 'Sardines' in there!). Happy days :-)
It took me a few attempts to find suitable spaces to video the layout. I think that 2018 exhibition was one of the first times this layout had been exhibited, hence the interest.
fabulous, this is what a model railway is about to me, the fantastic attention to detail all over this layout is credit to the skills of the builder, great work indeed and very inspirational
Just got to finish watching this video. Wow, I must say I am very impressed with the realistic detail and presentation. Hats off to the builders of the layout and thanks again Keith for the compilation.
Details they say are important ! But there is one glaring error ! The colour of the ballast. Until the demise of British Railways the vast majority of rolling stock had Brake blocks (not disc brakes), which created clouds of rusty brake block dust. Also toilets dropped their contents directly onto the track ! So within a couple of weeks of new ballast being laid, it was already going a nasty brownish colour. Usually referred too by model paint manufacturers as "Track Colour". This colour also affected the chassis' of coaches, as the carriage washing plants cleaned body sides, but not roofs or chassis' !!!
I am sure that you are right about the ballast colour, but, personally and as a non-modeller, I don't think that it detracts too much from the overall impression of the layout.

I agree. A lot of work has gone into the detail on this layout and I especially like the locos where the 'smoke' is synchronised with the sound.

I agree that the builders and operators did an excellent job. This layout attracted a lot of attention at the exhibitions I visited.
Sometimes, when you watch these videos, you can remember what those old passenger coaches smelled like. Memories.

One of the best representatives of 'real steam' that I have seen.
Background should much nicer !!
I think the effort has gone into building the layout and making it look authentic.
