    Hello Phil. I spent my day today cutting out a bush full of 40yo ivy and I felt that I should pass on a recommendation. I got a 18v Dewalt Power Pruner just to have a go and did not expect much but it was just amazing. It was one of the moments when you say to your self why did I not buy this a decade ago. Anyway I do not know if you have one but I can fully suggest that you might have a look at one. I am not getting paid or sponsored in any way I just was blown away by how easy pruning became with this tool. To me it is an absolute must have.

    It could be that the moat was filling up the tunnels with silt over the decades of neglect from occasional flooding of moat and the former owners not maintaining it, as usually is the case. I'm a One man show too so I do not start projects unless Its absolutely necessary and getting anything done is a chore that takes longer and or cost twice as much because I would have to hire it to be done quickly . good luck and .....Crack on ! one more question how deep is the gravel over the old foundation (terrace) and are there any foundation stones or flag stones below the gravel ?

    I wish you would plant some supertunias in all those beautiful urns😊
    Supertunias do well in both full sun and shade , they are cheap and grow so fast and will fill in in a few weeks. Just put in some good soil and add a fertilizer.
    The best part is that you can just tussle the plant to dead head it, so easy peasy just like you like it 😊

    You may have already searched, but is there any chance of finding any documentation in german or american war archives? Possible even french or other war archives? You might try a pressure washer into the hole, wash the dirt back at least unclogging the front of the hole. Ground penetrating radar would be interesting to see and perhaps opening up a single part of the terrace would be easier to fix than the front drive. Concrete saw a square out and worst case a few bags of concrete to fill back in. Maybe make lifting rings in the replacement block so it can be removed and excavated at will.

    Hey Phil! Interesting stuff! ... I think maybe, next video or so, try to get some sort of platform, etc., to go there so you can pull out the ivy, etc., from that side (& hopefully it won't go into the moat too much, and make your "pea soup" worse) & then, maybe, you'll get a clearer view of the brick work & it'll probably help you see into there a little clearer (without ivy, etc., blocking the light)

    Have you tried hammering in some copper nails into the thick roots to kill the ivy? It's supposed to kill the roots for good within 6 months. I've done it for various woody plants that were too close to my home and it work a treat.

  • @katefinnegan8129
    @katefinnegan8129 5 วันที่ผ่านมา

    It may not be backfilled. From all of the vegetation growing there, it gets a kind of compost over the years and that is what the ‘dirt’ is. But, I’m sure you will investigate as the videos progress to actually see what is there and how far it goes back with the fill. As I’m sure you know, ivy is so invasive and the longer you leave it the more imbedded the roots get and the larger the roots get. That’s what ends up destroying structures. Looks beautiful on a building and on these old stone buildings, it probably takes a much longer time to get into any grout lines, but it can invade your roof and windows before you know it. Sad that something so lovely causes us to have to work so hard in a garden. I have it in my garden and it keeps me busy for sure keeping it where I want it.
