    Can you just make some nice racks that work with existing trek models instead of making a whole new 2500 dollar mountain bike?

    • @sergeyloverow2105
      @sergeyloverow2105 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Exactly. This is just marketing. You can turn any MTB into adventure/trekking bike by adding racks to it

    Worked out the gear inches on this, approx 18" to 79". You can climb up the wall with it, but will frequently spin out going down a moderate hill. Even with a bigger 36t crank you would only get 22" - 95". When using the ratio the larger 36t crank would win you, I still spin out on my way to work in the morning on my CroMo tourer. The 36t crank wouldn't get you up one of the roads in our local industrial estate either - even without a load.
    The 1 x 11 speed gear set just isn't as good as the old 3 x 9 touring setup yet.
    May be good for athletic unloaded enduro racing up hills, but for on road use you'll have to be resigned to just rolling down the hills and taking in the view.
    Am looking at the Giant SLR GX range with a triple chain ring and fat 50mm tyres added - bit heavier and the stem isn't much cop but the rest of it can be upgraded and it should keep up with road bikes going down hill and with this one when climbing up a gnarly single track path.

    I rode a Stache one day and just wanted handlebars and stem raised much more for upright riding and a larger comfortable seat for loooooong rides. That forward aggressive posture is why so many people are not comfortable on such great bikes. Cruising with speed and comfort is not road or mountain bike riding.

      Todd Brockway can you use this bike for commuting purposes? Other than trail riding?

    • @brockatgmail
      @brockatgmail 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Absolutely!! I have a set of KLC panniers I clip to the back. It works perfect. I was actually thinking of having a second set of wheels built up and using a 29er+ slick tire. I haven't seen any around but would love to do it so as to not wear down the tread. But you can absolutely use it to commute. The only thing I added to this bike in the way of swapping out stock parts is the grips, I picked up a pair of Ergon GP3's.

    • @agemontana5072
      @agemontana5072 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Todd Brockway thank you very much for your reply. I plan on purchasing the 1120 next week. My friend has the 920 he loves it but im going with the 1120 for commuting purposes.

    • @brockatgmail
      @brockatgmail 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It's fine right out of the box, but I swear by those Ergon GP3 grips I mentioned above. They will give you multiple positions which is nice for the road and even long trips on any terrain. They are a little pricey but I think they are well worth it.

  • @richardwolf6269
    @richardwolf6269 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    You need to make and sell those racks that you had on the prototype 1020 bike for regular Staches. Have a mount off the seatpost and then mount the rear part to the two threaded screws that come off the back of the dropouts.
    How can you elevate the performance of the Stache with a rigid fork??? I had the original Stache 5 and I put a suspension fork on it. Now that elevated the performance of it!!!

  • @nl3712

    Why does this bike have a dropper post? No shock or rear sus but a dropper?? Makes no sense, especially from a reliability perspective.

    • @trekbikes
      @trekbikes  6 ปีที่แล้ว +15

      Ever try to mount a fully loaded bike with the seat all the way up?

    • @nl3712
      @nl3712 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Trek Bicycle yip, i have. Easier than trying to ride a fully-loaded bike with a broken dropper post. Dropper posts are the most unreliable part on modern bikes.

    • @trekbikes
      @trekbikes  6 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      That may have been true on some early iterations of dropper posts but not the case any longer, especially with the Bontrager Drop Line.

    • @WildOutdoorLiving
      @WildOutdoorLiving 6 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Working at a bike shop we don't see very many issues with dropper posts, especially the Drop Line. They are just as if not more reliable than modern suspension forks.

    • @nl3712
      @nl3712 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Trek Bicycle maybe you should sell that dropper tech to Specialized...😂
      My new-gen dropper has had 6 dealer services and a warranty repair by specialized, and it still doesn't work. Previous gen spez post was even worse.

      :) well, because they wanted to fit that big bag holder/orange frame on the fork, above the front wheel. That would've been impossible with a suspension fork because the wheel has to stay in once place so it doesn't hit the bag/pack. I think it makes sense

    At $3000 you over engineered it. I'm sure I could adapt my Marlin 5 Gen or one of your Hybrids for this just as well. The dropper post is a prime example you need that like you need a unicorn horn on this bike. Typically bike packers are not going to do much hardcore trail riding. A 2x8 drive train would be better as well you don't need the expense of a 1X12. It probably could do better with a comfort suite for something like backpacking the C&O Canal from Pittsburgh to DC.
