1HEART - History of Notting Hill Carnival

Notting Hill Carnival is Europe largest Street Festival and has been around since the 1960's!
Every year on the Bank Holiday weekend in August, almost 2 million people flood the streets of Notting Hill in a explosion of colour, music, food and of course, dancing! It's a weekend to celebrate, meet new friends and let your hair down...but there's much more to Notting Hill Carnival than that.
Steeped in history, the story of how Notting Hill Carnival was founded is one of heroism, passion and ultimately the unity of two Cultures colliding together.

The windrush of the 1960s when jamaicans helped rebuild Uk/ Britain after ww2 after they bgg built the country like the slaves in America they was still outcasted after the war. Lazy whites wanted to use us to do the work. We are the Israelites of the bible.

It was started by a Trinidadian woman, initially indoors, then taken over by another woman who brought it out onto the streets in a organised parade. Sam King and other active members of the West Indian community came together to help make it into what it is today.
