Ok, get some cooking spray and leave the butter for toast or finishing a nice steak. Butter cannot take the kind of heat your subjecting it to and thats why you have burnt food. Cast iron does best with cooking oils. Even better, save your bacon grease, it adds a wonderful flavor to what ever your cooking. Just keep your cast iron farther from the heat. Cast iron works wonders if you don't over heat it. Besides, what's the hurry to cook when your in the great outdoors right!
