Great setup you’ve built! It seems like all of the things you listed as compromises were well thought out trade offs. I’m glad you are still loving the camper after 6 months, you certainly have put it through paces!
What a great setup Lance, very much a home from home. I had an old 1972 VW camper for a few years, whilst my daughter was still little. Some great adventures had in it. At the time I wasn't into astrophotography, which is a shame, as you have shown how useful campers are for that.
Hi John! Those older VW campers were very popular back in the day and now highly sought after by camper enthusiasts. I bet you have great memories camping and traveling in it. Thank you so very much for watching and leaving a comment. I wish we lived closer as I would very much enjoy meeting you in person. I do certainly enjoy your videos! 😎
@@adventuresofshadowdog our old VW was pig to drive, but she looked and sounded nice. The lack of power steering and almost complete lack of brakes was somewhat challenging 🤣. However, it was great fun owning one. It is a shame we live so far apart, as we could compare rock/fossil collections and astro kit. However, I look forward to seeing you and Shadow in your videos, I find them very relaxing to watch.
John, I enjoy your videos for the very same reason! Very relaxing and just wonderful to watch. And I’ve learned a number of astrophotography tips from you. One in particular that I recall well was how you process in photoshop by adjusting the levels and curves in increments so as to not introduce too much noise. I have valued that tip greatly!
I like the pop-ups a lot and considered several of them. There is no right or wrong. At some point we just have to make a decision and then go with it. Most important is that we use them!
Absolutely love this! As I’ve been making a list. I was looking at portable shower units, which is on the list to find! Also solar (I know nothing about solar so figure gunna need help) I do want enough juice that I gotta leave Birdie (my pittie) she will be okay if the the weather it’s warm or cold outside least 14 hours while at the job site!
Thanks for watching and commenting! So the AC draws the most power. To keep the camper cool for 14 hours straight will require quite a bit of juice. You might want to have a solar expert help you calculate out what would be needed by way of batteries and panels. I would recommend propane for heating. Birdie needs to be comfortable! 🐶
@@adventuresofshadowdog thank you for the information. Def keep digging into research. I wasn’t sure with a propane heater could keep certain temp. Honestly all this def so new. A lot to learn!! Love watching yall! Keep the videos coming!
MPG dropped from an average of 20 to 14. Sometimes I get 15 if I keep it at about 60 on the freeway. No maintenance issues so far, but I use the tow/haul mode and change the oil more frequently than the manual calls for. The engine itself doesn’t really work that hard. It’s a big 8 cylinder Hemi. But MPG does suffer. Good question and thanks for watching!
I added a Victron Orion DC to DC charger to my FWC pop up. Great for those days when the solar panels aren't cutting it. I'm on the move most of the time so it's bonus charging since you're driving anyhow.
I have never heard of those before. Your comment has me curious. I just googled it. Really interesting. I need to read up and learn more about these. Great tip! Thanks!!!
Love the weBoost! Little expensive, but it comes in handy when you're a bit out of range. Might have to look into one. I also have a TV in my camper (Dish satellite too), ha! I get teased, but I don't care. I get to watch a football game or show if I want. Handy on bad weather days or lazy days 😉😏.
Great review! Thanks for all the info. I personally am on the fence about getting something like this. I noticed that your tailgate doesn’t close. Doesn’t that beat up the paint on it? Please let me know. Do you have a 5 foot bed or a 6 1/2 foot bed? Thanks in advance for your reply.
Great question you raised. The bed size of the Ram I have is 6’4”. I could remove the tailgate, but I really enjoy the landing when I’m getting in and out, and for setting things on. So I decided to risk potential dings. To my surprise, and I mean SURPRISE, I have not had a single ding. I just now checked again just to make sure. The tailgate rides very high, and the truck has mud flaps. Some how, some way, rocks don’t hit the tailgate. Not one ding! Now, Capri does make a shorter and longer version. I f I went with the shorter, I could close the gate. But I like the North-South sleeping setup and I really wouldn’t want to go any smaller. Check out the Capri website and you can see all the size options. Truthfully, I wish my truck bed was just a bit longer so that I could open and close the tailgate, but it’s not! Lol. I hope this helps. 😎
I personally really like the front to back bed layout. However, my pickup bed size is 6’4” long, so I have the “middle” sized camper that is 82” long and 82” wide. If I had the shorter truck bed and shorter camper, the bed would have to go side to side as the camper would not be long enough front to back. On the other hand, if I had the longer 8’ pickup bed and the largest camper, I would choose to go with the side to side bed. I like the front to back in my size camper. Otherwise I would go with the side to side. Is this clear as mud? Happy to help further if needed.
This is going to get a lot of views. You are speaking the language of the average guy/gal. Thanks!!
Thanks! I learn from the best by watching your channel!!!
It looks like the truck is sitting nice and level
Thanks! I do carry a set of leveling blocks that come in handy. Before that I would hunt for sloped rocks! Lol. 😂

Love the adds and the setup! That is the way to do it right!
Thanks @redbeardbrad1!
Capri was on my list but I wanted a pop-up so I would drive low but park tall :) They are a great option for many :)

It looks like it's very functional and very nice inside. That did look like a nice campground as well.😊
Thanks Colleen. That campground is in Snow Canyon and is absolutely breathtaking. I’m glad you noticed it. 😎
Interesting. I've been in snow canyon. North East area is white and south west is more red. There so many cool places down there.
i love your camper! its like a cozy little cabin instead of a plastic-y look. excellent use of space too!
Thank You! I too love the “cabin” look and feel. Feels like a true little home away from home. 🏠

Love the video and your mods. It looks like a very comfortable setup. Thanks for sharing.

Great review sir. Dave turned me on to you. Another great guy.
Thanks! 😊 Dave is the best! He’s the real thing and he’s also a wonderful person.
Very cool set up .

It's the sweet Ram 1500 that's carrying it :)
Yes it is! I do love this truck with the V8 Hemi. Tons of torque!
Thanks for posting this video.

Do you get wifi with the dish as well? Do you recommend it? Thanks!
@@adventuresofshadowdog no wifi
@adventuresofshadowdog I should have said, no wifi in the camper, but yes at home only.😉

Does Shadow use the toilet?
Of course!
What roof rack do you have on your truck?
It is the GoRhino. So is the light bar. Let me know if you need anything further!
