As a Medical Doctor, I can happily confirm the accuracy of this very informative video. This is most certainly an excellent resource for growing teens. A few additional points of clarification:
-an imperforate hymen means that the hymen does not have any holes in it. This can cause a problem for girls reaching puberty and experiencing menarche (the very 1st menstrual cycle). In this case, the girl will have all the signs and symptoms of menarche, but there will be no flow of blood (because of the blockage). She may feel unwell or develop a fever and it is important to take her to a doctor. The procedure is very simple and all it needs is a small surgical incision or nick in the hymen to make a hole so that the blood can flow out every month. This happens in less than 10% of cases.
-for those girls with a strict or conservative Religious upbringing where the hymen is valued (it is important to respect the religious and cultural beliefs of patients), then it is important for the girl to notify her Ob-Gyn, that she is a virgin. In this case, the Ob-Gyn will do the full exam without inserting a speculum (which can perforate the hymen in some cases).
-the overall summary is: in 90% of cases, if a girl has an intact hymen, it means that she has never had sexual intercourse; however, the reverse does not apply. That is, if a girl does not have an intact hymen, it does not necessarily mean that she has had sex before, because there are several reasons why the hymen may not be present as beautifully explained in the video such as: born without a hymen membrane; hymen that is torn through gymnastics, horse-riding or hard fall on a bicycle and so on.
-bleeding does not always occur at the first sexual encounter. It occurs in most cases, but the amount varies from a small smudge to copious bleeding. The hymen does not always tear at the first encounter because some hymens are very elastic, while other hymens only have a very thin rim on the edge - this usually disappears after the first pregnancy and delivery of a baby.
-it is important to emphasize kindness, compassion and understanding and to be a perfect gentleman at the first encounter (and throughout life). At the first encounter, a chaste girl (one who has never had sex before) will be nervous (that is how the brain works, even though she may not show it). This nervousness leads to dry lips, a dry mouth and dry mucosa. Hence, the natural body lubrication is reduced. Ergo, it always helps to take it very slowly until the girl is totally relaxed and starts producing her own lubrication, which is the best (even if it takes 45-60 minutes of foreplay, or longer - patience is the key). Alternatively, lubrication jelly or oil always helps at the first encounter. Lubrication reduces pain, reduces the friction, and hence, makes the experience less traumatic and less blood loss.
-finally, to lose your virginity (especially in cultures and Religions that value it) should be done with someone that you love. It just makes the entire experience so much more special and memorable. In some cases, the “first night” actually means the second or third night. Avoid a one-night-stand at a party where you don’t even know the person. Remember, that many people fake that they are having sex. The majority of Christians and Muslims in my clinical practice, usually wait to get married before having their first sexual encounter. Whatever your belief system, please always take precautions and avoid an unplanned teen pregnancy - it can change your life forever. Furthermore, become knowledgeable about STD’s (sexually transmitted diseases) and HIV-AIDS - it is more common than you may imagine. Movies tend to glamorise sex but they don’t tell you about the after-effects.

It is such a relief to know that some girls do not have hymen. I have been puzzled all my life (I will be 70 next year) why I did not bleed when I lost virginity with the man I married. He kept asking me if I had been a virgin. He left me for another woman later and I felt so liberated - I have enjoyed my life and work as a single person ever since.
I have also asked myself why I didn't bleed when I lost it. Luckily my fiancé was educated on this subject and knew that I didn't necessarily need to bleed, but regardless it wasn't important to him if I was a virgin or not, for he wasn't a virgin, himself. @@user-do9gt9cr2n So, before I lost it with my fiancé we tried two times, but when I started feeling a bit of pain, in the beginning, I asked him to stop right away and he did. The third time, when it actually happened, I had some wine before, and then it was really fine. The secret is being able to relax, I recommend some wine and a lot of foreplay to make it not painful and actually fun, if you are not a minor. Most importantly don't rush anything.

It felt really good and that is all I focused on. Now everyone is different some women it takes a few tries before down their adjusts to being stretched in that way. Anyway just tell your partner if your planning on having sex that your nervous that it will hurt. You can also have him finger you gently to tear your hymen a bit so it doesn't hurt so much. In my opinion if your partner really cares they will gently tear it a bit before entering you with his part. Oh and of course use a condom or birth control so no unplanned accidents happen. I lost my hymen when I fell from a tree when I was 10 years old or sth. I had bleeding after this fell, I had no idea what happened. Hymen doesn't mean anything, I was still a virgin.

I am 22 year old, good looking, handsome guy, topper in school and college and currently focusing on my career. I never proposed any girl. Instead ‘I got proposals from 3 girls’ and many indirect proposals from several girls but I rejected their all proposals with respect because i have some morals, ethics and rational thinking. I believe first to focus on education, career. I don’t want to betray my parents by having love affair at the time of studies and personality development.
So my point is i am ‘proud virgin’ by my choice. I believe in marriage system. I want to love only one person and stay loyal for lifetime to that person. in future my wife is going to first love for me (emotionally and physically). So why should I don’t expect same from her?

They are asking virgins to have big heart and accepts directly non-virgin, why ? If loosing virginity was their choice then its our choice to reject them. They don’t have right to judge us.

You can’t tell who is a virgin by simply looking at the hymen, as it may either not exist from birth or be ruptured due to heavy physical activities. However you can tell by simply treating the woman like a human and simply asking her if she had sex (or vaginal sex) before, not as an object to fuck with.

I got my first period aged 10 and one time used a tampon overnight. Had no problem inserting it, but taking it out took me a few trials. Had no idea about hymen back then, but I'm pretty sure I unknowingly broke it myself.

That is the best way to be knowledgeable and educated about a lot of this I love these channels I love these Pages this is what I'm talkin about this is what people need to also to be taught and learned. Not to be too personal but I still have that the ring like skin on the inside. That is a major reason why I'm not going to be just sleeping with anyone person hasn't done anything outside of social media to live together. We can't be or live without each other long-term inseparable!!!

Wow, what an informative video! Wish that the materials I red ~20 years ago were this infomative. There was so much more mysticism involved in the explanations... even by experienced gynecologists. That deliberate 'vagueness' of and in topics like these is such a terrible thing! It's not only misleading but also makes young women believe that the hymen must remain secured and covered as an integral part of their bodies (religion makes it sacred, yeah, and shy away from it, but improper shallow education also makes it sound as some almost magical body part 'which breaks and hurts' (and that's all there is), whereas it's not - it's physical, has a shape, there are varieties of it, it attaches to vagina at certain points, it has a function (even if it's assumed), it's determined how it develops and deteriorates, etc. etc.) There's way more than meets the eye! It's not just 'a film surrounding the opening of the vagina', as it's usually described, period. It's an organ! (Or, at least, a part of it.)
It's funny how they try hard not to mention women in this video instead they use the words person or people...

When i was a kid i fell two times on my crotch and both times it made me bleed from my vagina( a few drops of blood each time). I was sure i had lost my virginity but i was a kid and couldnt care less. I saw my mom was kinda disappointed but she didn't say anything. Then when i was 12 i tried to put tampon in and couldnt. At 14 i went to a gynecologist who tried to put a finger in there and she couldnt. I flinched from the pain. Then my first time it was sooo painful and the guy couldnt get it in. So he tried with his fingers. That's when i lost tons of blood and it flew out for two days. My hymen must have been really thick to survive two falls, failed tampon attempt, failed gynecologist visit attempt and intercourse.

@@clairejones624 he didn't. If you read again my comment, i said i lost my virginity with his fingers because that's when i lost a lot of blood. My mom was probably disappointed because of old traditions that a girl should be virgin until marriage. But she didn't say anything, she knew it wasn't my fault that i fell and i couldnt care less either.

@@myadhdiskillingme6205no it wasn’t her hymen broke that day when they saw blood. She cannot have her period. I’m assuming the woman is a grown woman. Period start from 11 to less than 15 only in women.
There is a thing that is important that isn't mentioned in this video that could help break prejudices. There's nothing about vaginal secretions/lubrication that is mentioned. If the vagina is dry, lack of secretion, that's the reason why it might break. If you're not aroused and try to penetrate or are dry and trying to insert a tampon that makes you dry which could do more harm than good. Because you can't just push things inside without warm-up/lubrication. Sexual arousal naturally helps making lubrication which makes it easier to stretch and penetrate. The combination of lack of lubrication and always pushing things inside the vagina might cause vestibulitis in the long run which makes penetration painful.
Lack of lubrication can be solved by using lube which is nothing shameful, but a very good aid.

I have a question: let's say you use tampons and those perforate your hymen (but you've never had sex before). If you then went to the specialist and they inspected your hymen, could they misunderstand the state of your hymen and think that you're no longer a "virgin"? I apologise if my question sounds lame but I wonder if it's actually happened or it could happen.

They might do, but that doesn’t mean you lost your virginity. Unless you had sex and it broke.
