  • We bought a Melges 15!! Here is a video of the rigging process the first day we sailed it. Post any questions you may have about the boat. First time rigging took about an hour, regular use has the process down to 25 minutes. Couldn't be happier with the purchase, comfort like bigger boat, performs like a skiff and fits in a standard length garage.

Questions about the trailer. What is the brand? Does it have a torsion axle? Fitted bunks (like a Melges 24 trailer)?

The trailer was ordered from Melges with the boat. Made by Snobird Trailers it has a light duty leaf spring over the axle and custom fitted fiberglass bunks like the M24 trailer. Only modification we've made is to add padding so the bow doesn't get scratched when using a steep launch ramp.

Are those Star Wars graphics custom or did melges do them?

Custom, we named the boat Rogue One.

How do you launch and retrieve the boat? Ramp launch w/ your car? Hoist? I see no dolly so I presume not beach launch.

We have launched all three. The boat sits high on the trailer so when ramp launching we get the stern in the water and hand lift the bow off. The dolly launch is no different than any other dynamic dolly. We find having a third person helps when moving the boat from the trailer to the dolly. The boat also came with a bridle that attaches at three points and makes crane launching a snap.

@@SailingNorCal Thanks for reply....Have you single handed it and if so how did it work out? and I have heard some have installed a jib furler.....any thoughts on that?

@@rkoz9855 No experience with a jib furler but I also haven't really seen a need for it. The jib can be pulled down if it is overpowered. I have single handed the boat with and without the jib, only issue I had was with the jib and spinnaker in a gybe became a lot to manage. Your main focus is getting the spinnaker over and the apparent wind back up which means leaving the jib on the wrong side until you get the rest sorted out. Not a big deal but I can understand the recommendation to not use the jib single handed.
