  • Vox MV50 Brian May (GREAT Sounds On A Budget?)
    Today we have an amp by Vox which features Nutube technology. I've encountered other amps by Vox with the same thing, and haven't been impressed. Let's hope this amp fares better. This MV50 bears Brian May's name, so I'm curious as to what he's put his name on.
    Enjoy!

    Sounds really really good. No effects loop isn't a deal breaker for me since it seemed to take pedals in the front pretty good. I think you'd probably want a good noise gate with that one, awful lot of hiss, but for the money wow! I'll have to keep an eye out for a second hand one. I'm too cheap to buy a Vox AC30 but if I can snag one of those...lol! Great video Elmo!

      I agree. I have an AC30 an AC15 ,the Vox deacy Amp and several different treble boosters including the Caitlin Bread NAGA Viper but ironically nothing sounds as good and as close to real thing as the Digitech Brian May Pedal. Even my real AC30 can't get the Brian May sound without the Digitech Brian May Pedal in front of it. The only "treble booster" that comes close to making my AC30 sound like Brian May is the Caitlin Bread Naga Viper (the 3rd best option) and the 2nd best option is Wampler Tumnus (with the Mid nob at 3 O'clock). That combination sounds awesome and pretty darn close but still the reigning champion of Brian May Tone is the Digitech Brian May Pedal infront of my AC30. I am in Brian May tone heaven with that combination.

    This shows, what the NuTube is capable of. With the Modeling Amps I never know, what is modeling and what is the nutube. With this barebone approach, it seems more clear to me, what the mini-tube is capable of.
    Vox should do AC15 and AC30 as nutube versions. The same look but less weight. I'd instantly buy it.

    It's a great sounding amp with the nutube providing gritty but smooth dirty gain.

    Great sound from a very small package, this i think is it's weakspot.
    I agree with you Elmo, a larger case would allow them to fit additional options
    and make it even more versatile.
    I am spoiled as i have an AC30 with footswitchable top boost and a genuine
    Brian May guitar, only problem is that i am not Brian may, he has to be one of the
    top guitarists that i can think of, Others include Hank Marvin, Mark Knopfler, Steve Vai
    and for slide Bonnie Raitt, she can make a guitar sing to you, and yes i have her
    Custom Shop Strat, but i am not very good on slide.

    • @Barbarapape
      @Barbarapape ปีที่แล้ว

      No one other than Brian may or any of the other great guitarists will sound as good.@@MrPolevaulter
      As someone once said, you could give Brian May the worst guitar and amp ever made and he
      would still sound like Brian May.
      I have spent a fortune over the years trying to sound like Hank Marvin and David Gilmour
      but it's not the gear, it's me that can't quite get close to how they sound.
      I have watched Hank in a front row seat and he gives nothing away.
      I think it is a gift that you are born with, i was certainly not born with a pick in my hand.

    The MV50 AC is also a great amp head. I haven't played an MV50 BM but I'm guessing it is the same except the BM edition has the Treble Boost circuit and switch. I use a couple of speakers with the MV50 AC, the Vox BC108 that is designed for the MV50 and a Celestion Vintage 30 12-inch speaker. With these two speakers you get the full 50 watt power of the MV50 and the full range of frequencies.

    I got mine, that one without the treble booster & the Brian May signature. Even an unfortunate talentless guitarist like me XD can get decent sounds from this little & very portable thing. And don't need to emulate Brian May tone to get a nice sound from this little amp.

  • @misstress1928
    @misstress1928 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    This little amp is great, but I wouldn't use word "budget" to talk about it. It's only half the price of the real deal. What makes this little sucker attractive is its size, which effectively means light weight and portability. Other concerns, like safety (low voltage, no power tubes and output transformer) are also addressed by the design.
    If rocking stadiums was still a thing, this could have been very popular. For bedroom players it's hardly relevant, as there are way better (more versatile) options to sound like a rock star. Still a great little thingy for gear collectors, like yours truly.

    • @MrPolevaulter

    I have a number of Amps, including the MV50 clean, here is my opinion, way over priced, I got my Clean for £120, there is no reverb or effects loop, BUT negatives aside, through a 4x12 this thing, for someone who wants a pure tone, sounds fantastic, takes drive pedals well, built in attenuator, is a great back up, if you have a cab to plug into, I dont use much reverb live, so not an issue, handy for rehearsal studios where they usually have cabs, for the same money you could buy a Katana or even a 2nd second hand Katana twin. If vox priced these at the price I paid, I would say try it, but only for someone who is going to use it turned up.
