🏰 A Disney fan’s hub for all Walt Disney news today!
If you’re looking for exclusive Disney news or want to experience the inside of the Disney parks, then you’re in the right place. The magic is just a click away! 🚀
For over 16 years, WDW News Today has been your go-to for all things Disney - news, podcasts, radio, and video. We've had a blast sharing our love for Disney, and it's all thanks to our dedicated audience that we're now the best website for Disney Parks News worldwide.
Walt The Dreamer looks like it was installed in front of McDonald's.
What's gonna end up happening is regular guests will just sit on the giant bench like any other and then roll their eyes when people want to take a photo. Basically crowding it.
And it's free marketing for Disney, which I would guess was the deciding factor.
exactly. what makes the partners statue so captivating is how mickey and walt are "out of reach" in a sense, making it incredibly more significant than the new statue
the amount of "bad show" and "disrepair" that has become standard practice at Disney World is beyond shameful at this point.
Disney really missed the mark by NOT making Snow White's arm spray 'blood' while she dances :)
@ericgee198 I agree 1000%
I just love Tom! When he said "I'm in a mood today!" 🤣🤣 Can we please get a shirt that says "Tom is my spirit animal!" 😂
Yes please!
I'm okay with the bench. It definitely helps reduce the feeling of the statue looking like Walt on a toilet, and having him on a bench makes him feel less deified. I'm less okay with the placement, and the presence of a Walt statue in this "new" EPCOT at all. Kind of feels like Disney just playing the "Walt card" to try and fool us into thinking EPCOT is better than ever now...which it isn't.
what did Disney give us in the end at EPCOT? The clone of a ride from Shanghai not a lot of ppl can even fit on, a glorified water pad, and how many years of construction?!
But it is though
It now looks like Walt is looking over Epcot with his head in his hands saying 'what the heck have they done to my vision?'
the statue is missing a statue of Stan Lee sitting next to him, his face wrinkled in utter disgust :)
OK Walt Disney might’ve said that a long time ago but he’s not saying it now Epcot was supposed to be not a theme park it was supposed to be a place where people lived and worked so his vision went out a long time ago. Luckily that happened because of the fact is we have something better now with the world showcase and all the amazing things that has to offer !
I’m sorry, what we now is so much better than what Walt Disney’s vision they knew they couldn’t execute it, and it would not be beneficial
@@Disneyfanatic170you have to wonder how much Corporate Disney has to crap on you before you stop licking it up?
@@MichaelRei99 my family and I have fun going . If you don’t like it then why do you listen to Disney news? You are acting like a hypocrite! Universal does exact same as Disney but because they are the weaker theme park until Epic opens they don’t hit the news as much
@@Disneyfanatic170people come here because we LOVE Disney and hate to see it in its current state. I’ve lived WDW my whole life . I would make trips 2 to 3 times a year with my family . ( flying multiple hours). I stopped doing it in 2020 because Disney has lost that “ spark” and magic at the park. Universal has a MUCH better experience now.
The long bench makes this statue look like a “pitstop” instead of a memory maker location. The statue is lovely and deserves an appropriately special place/sight line. The current steward of legacy moments at Disney needs to pay greater attention.
I agree with your thoughts on the Walt statue. But, then again, being disappointed with Disney World has become common place.
Sadly you are correct.
So true
Dopey rips of Snow White's arm...
Disney : This is why we do videos instead of practical effects!!
I agree completely with your observation of the Walt statue!!! The original captured Walt and his mindset - the one now just shows any man sitting down and shows NO tribute to the man and his ideas. ANOTHER miss by the folks at Disney. What a SAD mess the Parks have become.
I agree - the statue with the Micky is 10x better. It definitely looks like they phoned it in.
“Are you shrink wrapped?, I am missing my arm!”
I wish the oriental land company would buy out wdw. They seem to get the assignment.
I kept joking Walt looked like he was sitting courtside. “Put me in, coach!”
What I would've done in Epcot for the walts statue would have been to include Roy as well an the back drop behind it maybe do a tile mosaic and include all the imagineers that worked on the original Epcot.
I didn't think Dopey was that violent. Wow.
What they are doing with Walt's statute tells what the current company thinks of him, as not very special.
Silent but deadly! 😂
I’m glad they didn’t build that 3 story event tower. They would have charged $8,000 per person to watch the fireworks from it. 😮
The Walt memorabilia looks mildly terrifying.
I know, right? I find it really creepy that Disney is commercializing an actual person like this, even if he is the founder. It feels almost cultish.
It seems the Walt bench is intended for groups to pose with the statue. Further, the original design wouldn’t work with the cancellation of the Spaceship Earth building remodel. Instead, it appears the holly trees behind the Walt statue will grow into a green wall. Plus, the original pedestal design would be dangerous. People would step off the edges.
I think the Walt statue at Epcot shows how much the current C suite execs completely misunderstand the company and its history. If you want to truly honor Disney and it’s past the statue should be of Roy. A man who was always integral to the company from the beginning and truly the person who bright Epcot to life (even if it wasn’t Walt’s original vision).
Maintenance at Disney is not as good as it used to be.
The upkeep as a whole's been falling to pieces. Too many guests senselessly causing chaos, constant breakdowns, overworked workers, back-to-back layoffs, INSANE prices, it's just madness!
That's a understatement. Lol
@@Ronaldl2350 Disney’s maintenance is bad. Take a look for yourself.
@@CastawayRJI was agreeing with you. The maintenance is terrible.
@@Ronaldl2350 oh.
he looks like a grandpa who didnt want to go on guardians HAHAHA that killed me
You can turn the Dopey one into a positive. Well, now it takes an arm and a leg to fix Disney so maybe Dopey is like here you go an arm to fix it.
I agree Tom. I love the statute, and the initial photo of Walt on a pedestal was perfect. Sadly, like everything else Disney has been doing they cheaped out once again and threw him on a nondescript bench!
Your right Tom. The bench is not GRAND enough!! The statue needs to be higher and non obstructed in back of it so families can gather around the entire statue and take pics with Walt in the middle
3:06-I recall seeing this modern structure (lots of glass) in some of the early updated concept art behind Dreamer’s Point. I believe it was the back side of what would have been the overall Spaceship Earth refurbishment. That certainly would have been a more interesting background than a concrete wall. Also, I thought there was something else going on with this area…a “wishing tree” or “story fountain?”
I don’t hate it i actually like that you can sit with him. I always see Walt as a grandfather that left behind all of this magic for us to have and share. The partners statue being on a pedestal where you can’t get close is okay but this let’s you be as close as you can to the man himself.
Concerning the Walt Disney statue: the Disney organization lost sight of Walt's vision years ago. Walt would be shocked if he had to witness the incompetence and money-grubbing of the most recent Heads of the Company and their lack of respect for their Audience. Truly Sad indeed.
I feel like the Disney I knew and loved is gone. I no longer have the feelings of joy it once evoked. It IS truly sad to watch it be lost.
@@hannah_xddd no need for you to be so literal - I think we all know how he felt about his customers and what he wanted what was most entertaining for them.
I think someone in an office somewhere decided that putting Walt on a low bench for photo ops would be better publicity.
I'm glad the actual Walt statue is on a long bench and not up on a pedestal or "throne". It makes him look less like "Walt the Pooper on Toilet" like the merch.
He still looks like he’s pooping. Why did they hunch him forward like that?
Statue placement is like putting Grandpa in a corner. Waiting for when it gets vandalized.
Another let down at epcot. The entire area that has been closed for years has been a huge nothing burger. How does a company with the wherewithal of Disney continue to disappoint? I agree that the Walt statue doesn't evoke the emotion it deserves. Sadly I'm not surprised.
An argument could be made that they continue to disappoint only because the expectations are always set so high.
@chaopolis is that you Bob?
@@walterramirez4443 Which Bob? Too many Bobs.
Dreamers statue seems to be such a letdown ☹️
He looks like a person visiting the park which I love. It's not a shrine to him. I love it, personally.
It’s a photo location, shouldn’t it have a nice background?
The statue doesn’t look like Walt to me unlike the Magic Kingdom sculpture and concept art. Also the leaned forward posture reads more as old man than dreamer such as the dignified concept art.
Nice shirt, Tom! I agree with you on the Walt statue. I found Dopey ripping off Snow White's arm hilarious!
Sometimes I feel that the other parks not in the U.S. get more focus by Disney then what happens to WDW or Disneyland. I absolutely love WDW but the feeling like how it use to be… the Magic is fading ever more. While over in the parks the Magic seems to be alive. I can NEVER afford to go out of the country. I just wish the Magic like how it was would come back.
Dopey wins fatality i guess he was getting tired from dancing with snow-white and became self-aware.
Santa . . . Tom really wants some positive Disney stories for Christmas! Is it too much to ask?
I sure hope maintenance fixes Snow White!
This statue summarizes Epcot entirely. That being it missed the point of the idea and original dream of Walt and half-ass the park.
I'm glad that Disneyland is addressing the light tower issues. I'll be there next week.
7:14 Okay.... yeah I agree with you. At first I thought I liked the bench and the statue, but when you compare it to the concept art -- it's just not as grand
"It's just a flesh wound"
After viewing that first video of the Zootopia ride I feel that a lot of creative effort has somehow produced another ride that seems very 'non-essential'.
However, I did think the screen-based action sequences looked well animated and conveyed a sense of speed much better than the Mario Kart Ride does (based on what I've seen online).
i found it dissappointing until the rainforest district. from there the ride actually comes together
While there are animatronics of Judy and Nick right after, I laughed out loud when I saw the Gazelle animatronic, thinking "Oh of course she's the one they invest money into".
The Walt Disney statue reminds me of the Ronald McDonald statues that used to be at McDonald’s
The thing is, the Epcot we have today is nowhere near what Walt had envisioned for the place so the statue means nothing and from a certain viewpoint is pretty disrespectful to Walt’s legacy.
Aloha WDW have any of you been to Knott's Berrry Farm? There, In Ghost Town there are seated statues of cowboys and saloon girls to take picture with....THIS looks just as distintive...if you catch my drift. This just looks underwhelming at best.
Walt certainly deserves better.
Thank you WDW
It feels to me a little tacky, it gives me the same feeling as those Ronald MacDonalds benchs some of the McDonalds have or use to have
Elon dunking on Igor today…. Priceless.
The accountants influenced the final design, much like Disneyland’s 1998 makeover of Tomorrowland.
Totally agree about the Walt statue! Looks terrible!
I also agree with you about the placement of Walt’s statue - he looks de minimis. I really liked the original sketch with him on the set of steps. So sad he wasn’t given a better location-the height of the bench ruins the perspective.
The placement seems to be better for families to take pictures with Walt without other people in the background.
They had the statue at Creations on Sunday if interested
Disney to release a commemorative trinket to commemorate the release of commemorative statue figurines!
Looks like a disgruntled staff may have put the arm in Dopeys hand? 🤣
As you have reported several times, idiots would trip and fall on the stairs on the original concept and Morgan and Morgan would be suing for permanent injuries for $50,000
The Disney company has had a string of box office failures, multiple incidents of animatronics losing limbs, breakdowns, and just bad show. I feel the leadership has no respect for Walt (see Rachel Zegler’s Snow White comments as proof). Meanwhile, Iger is blaming the market, tastes of the audience, Chapek, Elon Musk, etc. instead of looking in the mirror!!! You can’t have such a broken brand without conscious choices being made and Iger and Disney execs are 100% at fault! So as Disney fans, you got to ask yourself, “What are you really getting for your money?” It’s clearly not Walt Disney’s dream, that’s for sure!
It looks like he’s sitting there waiting to be placed in a better place!
11:20 for the corn dog stand not being open yet, my guess would be maybe an issue with contracts being signed, since we know each resort (hotel) operates as it's own entity 🤷 idk
______________ but _____________
The simplest (and best) answer would be
*_BECAUSE MONEY!!_* LOL😅
Regarding the Snow whites arm ripping off part… the way she was dancing is how Disney expects their workers/Cast members to dance if they get their arm ripped off. She legit said “hold up lemme keep this jig up before they can me, times are tough and I got to pay this busted a$& cottages rent!” 😫😭😂 she is the true definition of the show MUST go on.
The Walt Statue is fine.
They need to turn Walt around so he can see one of the top 20 marvels of 20th century architecture. And am i wrong or is that pym kitchen cake slice smaller than the slices at Gideons? Its not even a big slice.
The benefit of the placement of the Walt statue is everyone gets the chance to sit and chat with Walt about how much they love his creation. I imagine Walt would love to do that, talk to regular guests about his creation and how much it means to their family.
Yeah, but the bench is ugly. The Hong Kong statue is on a bench too, just looks way better
You're just jet lagged Tom! But you're also not wrong.....
I ate that chocolate bar. It was a lot. I tried to share it amongst four people. It was still too much. I would prefer the cake 😂
I thought for a moment that the design on the back of the bench was reminiscent of the OG plans for EPCOT which would have been a nice nod but now I can’t tell… I’m optimistic that it’ll look better in person
I believe the first idea was wonderful to put it in a way to celebrate Walt's Idea of a great futur, and Epcot was a kind of a dedication to his dream that finally it's like "oh well, were can we put it now as we have changed all our plans of the zone... lets put a wall so we hide people passing by behind and to hide the building behind also!" - For me the idea to put that statue in a "garden" was a great idea, kind of, calming area to celebrate his dream and take a close picture of that amazing visionary person. But maybe it would be as simple to put it near the lake, and have the SpashiEarth behind in the back, and seasonnal decorations behind, as the Christmas Tree, Flowers, and other decorations that will add to the statue a certain perenity to it. Well, we would never know how and what is decided and whats in the mind of all those amazing Imagineers and decisions that are made hight in the sphere. I hope and believe that TWDC wil come back to what we all want, even the new generations... Dreaming !! Dreams are the engine of our humanity races, in every country, dreaming makes the world go round, if you stop making people dream, they go to another places, and that will all our world Disney and Entertainment companies works in the fact that we want to get out of the reality for a certain amount of time... that of course cost money, but it always been like that. Who will make these companies earn money ? Fans and kids... And Kids become Fans... all in a circle, if that circle brokes... no money...
Any news for the hatbox ghost?
You never know when he might materialize…
I could not believe that Disney constructed the ground level emblem of Epcot off enter to the pathways and lights posts. You can see how it was built incorrectly from the aerial view.
Tom you totally nailed it! They definitely didn’t do Walt justice. It’s not at all magical☹️
Walt wants to be put back in the box since the EPCOT he sees is NOT the EPCOT he wanted
The Epcot he wanted is not even what it is 10 years ago 20 years ago what he wanted was a community where people lived and work, so did you want that instead of the theme park that we have today?
its so unfortunate what they did to walt's statue. they literally just see him as nothing else than an entity under the company. epcot was arguably walt's biggest passion project ever. theres so much they could have done with it to show. but nooo☺️
I always appreciate your honest opinion. And I agree with you 100% about the statue ...
The statue looks like a low-effort photo op spot. And one meant to be low maintenance. Just hose off that giant concrete bench.
I’m just waiting for the Ron Miller or Michael Eisner statues.
Wow! The first video makes great Creepypasta reading material. 😮😏
i like this approachable view of walt. especially in the US parks, walt has been shown above us, or idolized. Being that EPCOT is a derived EPCOT from what he really wanted, it’s an interesting depiction to show him experiencing it the same way that we do. I don’t think crowding/casual lounging will be an issue with it because it was never a problem with the benches that existed throughout the old future world! This depiction is very similar to historical monuments throughout the US- just look at those on UPenn/UVAs campuses. We’ve seen a shift from big unapproachable monuments, to level playing fields that put historical figures into our context. Making a testament to Walt in a park that is a huge departure from what was supposed to be his magnum opus simply does not make sense
I think the issue with the Walt statue is HE DIDNT ENVISION THIS VERSION OF EPCOT I have no clue what he’s doing there. His vision was a city not a park.
Ya'll complaining about the Walt statue placement but come December 5 there will be 3 hour wait just to take pics beside him.
Poor Snow White!
The sight line could be a bit better for Epcot's Walt statue, hopefully when the plants grow they'll block a bit of the wall in front of Spaceship Earth, but I do have a different view of the "meaning" of it - The design never played to me as a tribute to Walt just overlooking the park, for me it always felt like he was sitting and enjoying the park with his guests so a big long bench allows bigger parties to join in on that rather than one person sitting on a bench while the rest of the party gather for a group photo crowded behind, and on the ground in front of, the bench.
I was just there, I liked the statue and got my picture with me, but it seems like its in neverland!! hopefully the area will be different when it is done!
I might be in the minority but I think they should leave the Snow White armless.
I like the statue and the amount of people who absolutely HATE it is blowing my mind. People are taking it as an excuse to complain about EPCOT as a whole, but the statue itself looks good, the off center placement means that the person getting their PICTURE TAKEN can be center of the photo. I get the frustration with the view of spaceship earth, but personally I think the tiered stair they originally teased would’ve looked really strange in execution.
He looks like he's waiting for a bus
Disney's making some bad decisions; are we surprised? No, just saddened. 😢
walt on a bench reminds me of those Ronald mc donald statues on a bench
EPCOT still my favorite park but man did they botch this so much. Years and years of waiting only to get back mediocre results. Heck I would have kept the old look even if it was out of date. That bench will be roped off within a few months and will look even worse. Sad how far this company has dropped. Iger is horrible, Josh is horrible, and all of upper management is. Iger will go down as the absolute worse CEO Disney ever had especially his long tenure that should have been done by now. Need a stockholder revolt to oust him.
I don’t mean to be that guy 😂 but have we heard an update on the Hatbox Ghost in WDW? I know they said late November but tomorrow is the 30th.
Yes it is 😜
Where is the Epcot expansion? All they got was a water walk through and a smaller building. Seems like a Epcot reduction to me and it’s taken years and years.
Where's the WALT the SMOKER statue
The statue looks like it was made with selfies and Tik toks in mind more than to celebrate his creativity and genius. A shallow memorial that you can snap a quick and utterly forgettable pic…. Oh well.
It got too cold for us true Floridians
I bet 10 ounces of silver the judy animatronic will live a hard life if it doesn't pull a Buzzy and disappear suddenly like WD Gaster.
I knew when I saw the title of the video that we were going to get an appearance or two from Steve.
The statue is reminiscent of the Ronald McDonald benches. And you know they're going to make it a Photopass location.
Some credit is due for the show scenes using actual physical sets, and they look amazing. Yes lots of screens in them. But it’s not just projection mapped content.
It’s nearly as bad as
5:55 Start rant.
