    Lol! Last summer my wife and I took C172 from Winnipeg to Sault Ste Marie. Our flight time was 6.5 hours. Not only was this faster than AC but cheaper even considering headwinds on the return flight.

    Wow, that's a sweet 8. Love the way you moved the roll bar to behind the pilot. Great panel, too.

    I always said that, in the States, I’d beat anyone to (nearly) any destination on the same side of the Mississippi River. In a 160 kt airplane

    Hell.....after the first leg, you'd only be in Edmonton and not on a flight yet!

    A note from Airlines history: Back in the day when Eastern Airlines was flying Electras and American was flying the Boeing 707, Eastern had an early bird flight that beat American on the New York to Miami run. American departed JFK and climbed to 35.000,. cruised down the coast and entered the queue for Miami Approach, then down through the stack until handed off to the tower. Eastern on the other hand, climbed out of New York to 5,000, sped down the coast for a bumpy ride and because they were so low at 5,000, avoided the flight level queue and came in on the shorter runway with the DC-6s running cargo to the islands. Business men didn't mind the bumpy ride because they could make a nine o'clock meeting without having a hotel room. Bigger is not always better.

    Cool cross-country! May I ask: why did you make so many stops? Not too familiar with the RV-8, but would you have been able to comfortably do it in two legs instead of 4?

    • @stusaircraftfactory6592
      @stusaircraftfactory6592  3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Oh yeah no prob. Visited family in Winnipeg. Last summer flew Cold Lake - Minot, ND - Oshkosh no prob. Flight plan 7.5 GPH, 175 kts with 43 gallons fuel. Last leg could have done Winnipeg - Toronto but fuel reserves were exactly 45 min so elected to stop to be safe

    Ohhh the pain the pain but no problem.
    A mate and I just started looking for an RV8 and I found your channel and will stay regardless of you moving on to the RV4.
    Why the RV4?
    How would you compare the RV8 vs RV4 on long cross country trips?
    Looking forward to your build and thank you for the work you do on your channel.

    • @stusaircraftfactory6592
      @stusaircraftfactory6592  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Only reason I got the 4 was it found it for sale in Canada and wanted another project. Always liked the 4 for its sportiness. The original idea was to build to budget minded bird - show how fast you could go on maybe $80k. Since then the idea has changed with panel, bigger engine and CS prop. It’s no longer a budget bird. I will compare them. The 4 will be faster but has less fuel and no forward baggage area.

      How much faster Stu?
      I find the 4 to be very snug, suits me l like that, its even snugger when your strapped into a Barney Oldfield Baby Lakes.great for aero's, don't get moved around with aggressive inputs.
      Great channel, when are you goin to build my RV8 with retract ?

    Late comer to the channel. ‘Stu’s Aircraft Factory’ ... do you build for other people?

    • @stusaircraftfactory6592
      @stusaircraftfactory6592  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yup sold.
      As far as build question - that is the most popular question I get. Short answer is no - I had a normal job and it’s just not worth it to pay for labour.

    What is your KTAS in that beautiful aircraft????????? hope you are using Ross's SDS EFI and ignition.

    • @stusaircraftfactory6592
      @stusaircraftfactory6592  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I flight planned 172 kts tas in that machine. My RV4 is 182 kts and that is throttled back for vne. I started with Ross EFI actually but switched to standard system until there was a bit more testing. I hope to use it one day

    Why do RV 6 consistently cost three times more than something like Piper pacer, Cherokee or Beech Sundowner, modest Cessna 172 etc? I know they are good, but three times more airplane?

    • @stusaircraftfactory6592
      @stusaircraftfactory6592  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Typically I’d say yes. It does depend however on what kind of engine and if it’s new or not. Plus new avionics will make a big difference. Remember a new Lycoming engine costs more than a older used Cherokee

    Considering the -8 for routine IFR XC travel. How hands on do you need to be throughout? from what I'm reading fatigue maybe a concern on longer legs but I plan on having a/p

    • @stusaircraftfactory6592
      @stusaircraftfactory6592  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah autopilot for sure. Thing that makes these airplanes so great is the responsiveness and fell of controls. Can make hands on x country flying challenging since you have to pay attention all the time. Autopilots are relatively cheap and highly capable
