Hey there, I live in the south of england, is there a particular species of tree i could tree and grow from seed to create this affect or will any maple sapling work?

The original pot actually had soil in it though right, not ¾ size pebbley soil, but brown peaty dirt soil??

I absolutely love this kind of content: taking cheap, pre-bonsaï or young material and showing the steps to progressively make it into a living piece of art. I find this much more informative and satisfying to watch rather that taking already very old and advanced bonsaï and making mantanance work or working on yamadori that are quite hard to come by (not that I don't enjoy watching this content as well!). Thank you so much for these two episodes, really great work!

I would really enjoy a bonsai for total beginners series. It's easy to find videos about the artistic side of the bonsai, but it's much harder to find easy-to-understand information on the horticultural side. How do you care for it in its first few months? Its first few years? What kinds of soil and pots to use early on? When to start maintenance vs. when to just let nature take its course?

There is sooooo much presented in this video set that is missing from others. The emphasis that building bonsai is thought in terms of decades, not months or years. The work involved in creating the nebari that looks as good as that maple. And the thoughts that you aim for a design 10 years down the line instead of right now. I recently saw the use of defoliation which is interesting, but you briefly mention doing so only with certain species. It would be nice to have a video on that top. What can and cannot be defoliated for smaller leaves and better branch structure.

The metallic green of the pot complements the trunks which would beautifully contrast the red of the leaves such a great composition

I really loved the commentary all the way through the video. It was a beautiful setup and the backdrop is stunning with the green against the white wall. Your videos keep getting better, music selection, the volume of music, and length of commentary plus insightful knowledge. A lot of us are beginner bonsai artists and it's nice to see the inner and more detailed thoughts of what's currently going on even if it's common knowledge or the basics of bonsai in your mind. I would love a detailed commentary about how and why you are stylizing a tree a certain way and an in-depth look into the different styles and why a tree should be stylized in a particular way based on its growth (especially on how you stylize the leafage so well). You are blowing me away with how well done these videos are becoming and there is no one more prevalent in the bonsai community than you currently. Keep it going!

What a wonderful adventure to follow. What a fabulous thing that you found your life passion at such a young age, and beautiful early success! I look forward to learning from you. I purchased a book many years ago (I'm 53...book copyright 1976.) I have always yearned to try the art of these trees. I just might try to create some masterpieces of my own. I currently am having success with yearly food crop gardens. I think now I could get the hang of this style propagation, too. Thanks! I "hit the bell". I can't wait for more ideas and tips to inspire me to try this out.

My first attempt at bonsai died within a year due to a pre-mature wiring, trimming, root trimming, and repotting.. So I have been hesitant to try again, but with how well you explain everything I'm getting the courage I needed! Your maple is incredible, can't wait to see it progress through time :D Thanks man, keep it up!

It’s easier to understand you, the teacher without an accent I may not understand. So I’m thankful for that . I plan to live till I’m 100 so I I’ll have a good 50 years to propagate and grow. I understand you have to take care of them religiously like everyday so maybe I shouldn’t start until after my weeklong trip coming up soon ☝🏽🙏🏽🙋🏻‍♀️Mia

I am very appreciative of you showing this style material. As impressive as some of the trees are you show. Having a teacher like yourself showing what he has done, at a stage where it seems more real for people like myself. Really motivates me to want to strive harder to push myself on improving. I am 34. Will ben35. Started my first bonsai from seed when I was 12. I had a horrible car accident age 18 and I didnt get back into this art until about 5years ago. I still feel like a beginner. Being from Canada we don't have the same natives as you, so I prefer when you discuss classic material that we can all get our hands on like trident & Japanese maples, Japanese white & black pines, shimpaku (includes itoigawa) and hinoki.
