Thank you for this advice. It worked for me. Our LG washer's bearings had rusted out and were badly worn and the spider arm was severely pitted and fractured. By using this method, all 6 bolts came out with no stripping at all. The key is to start by tightening the bolt just a tiny bit, and then going back and forth as shown in the video. Another hint that worked for me was this: When backing out each bolt, after every several turns in reverse, I changed directions and tightened the bolt one turn, then reversed a few more turns, then tightened one turn, etc. I believe this made removal easier because the threadlocker, as it broke up into bits, started clogging the bolt threads. A quick change in direction every few turns helped to keep the threads clear and prevented the bolt from bogging down. Once removed, each bolt should be cleaned thoroughly before reusing with fresh threadlocker. With a new spider arm, a new set of bearings, and a generous application of silicone grease, our old machine is running like new again.
Great video. Worked like a charm. Mine all came off without drilling or cutting as seen in other videos. Also, I ordered a new replacement spider arm from LG and it came painted black which should last longer than the original unpainted aluminum one. Thanks
I have same year lg washer. I used pb blaster first. None broke. Don't know if it was luck or the pb blaster. Every arm on spider was broke but it is 17 years old. 😊
The bolts have red loctite (permanent thread locker) on them. You need to heat the bolts with a torch for a "little bit" then remove them, if you want to do it right and not break any!
Wow! Awful comments by a few on here! Good video. Heat may work but I believe that this will also with less risk of melting the plastic on the other side. I will try it. Unfortunately I already striped one so I will have to drill that one. What a stupid design to begin with! Very poorly built! Junk built to fill up our landfills and siphon our wallets!!!!
