- The Reloop Buddy DJ controller for Algoriddim's djay Pro AI software is a small, entry-level device designed specially for this software, and especially suited to using it on an iPad, for which it has a handy built-in stand.

I've had Algoriddims DJ PRO AI for a while now, after upgrading from DJ PRO 2. I'm a 62-year-old 70s 80s and early 90s club DJ. And I have to say this software is amazing. I use is it on my iMac Pro using my mouse and am on the hunt for a controller, that takes advantage of this beautiful software. It does things that DJs wanted to do while spinning vinyl. Mixes are absolutely incredible with every thing available to the DJ. We just need a controller (affordable please). Thank you for your review, this has helped me. Great job.

Well why not this one? You're not getting to get much more affordable or powerful for controlling the stem features
dj Pro was great when it had Spotify streaming, no idea why they went with tidal. I have all off the softwares and I think dj pro is the easiest, I always recommend it tk beginners or people coming from decks

For the price this is not bad. I would love to have something like this to travel around and practice, or even DJing small gatherings with it. Thanks for this great review Phil.

Thanks for the review, I've been waiting for it. Love the form factor as this would make a nice backup controller or on the road controller especially if it's fully midi mapable to Serato/VDJ/RB. All the quirks mentioned here can most definitely be fixed in a more capable software (esp VDJ). Much prefer this over DDJ200 as it's got track browser controls.
Tad expensive though for what it is.
If you wanted to forfeit the Filter control, you could fix the EQ in djay Pro, to be fair.
Brilliant review as always and a great start but really hoping for a big brother version with more features, inputs/outputs and still with the AI benefits. I'll save my money for that one I think!! (An updated Mixon perhaps 🤔)

You can't use the nurel FX unless you pay monthly for the pro version.

I think the Neural Mix is the biggest selling point for the device. I have Pro 2 on my iPad. That’s how I learned until I got a MacBook and got serato.
But Neural Mix is amazingly fun

finally a controller for the Algoriddims stems software.I really like the software but there was no hardware for it.This is a god start but i would like a bigger and better featured set up to fully exploit the software but i do like this thing as for now its the only hardware built for this platform
There is other hardware for the platform (the Beatpad controllers, for example) from Reloop, but this is the first with Neural Mix mappings "baked in".

It’s okay, obviously the pitch controls are a little bit short but we found no issues

Any class compliant controller will work with iPad - Algoriddim has a big list on its site.

hey phil... so remeber i was talking about i just got this controller and it worked exept the lights would not come on so i got my new otg adapter on thurday and i did a test and it was a faulty otg adapter.. even the wego pioneer works as it should... i will for sure invest next year on a ipad no more andriod... so in your professional opinon wat ipad wat version should i get.... i want to tell you thank you for always responding to my comments cheers mate...
Any modern iPad will be fine.
I'm using a iPad 9 with reloop buddy and I can't get it to work with speaker using the RAC output I have to use main output from my iPad headphone

It seems like Reloop and Djay could make this controller great if they both update their software. As you mention shift + headphones for entering Neural mode, it is not intuitive. And why not a mode for a 2 band EQ, and a mute function for EQ, vocals etc? And why not an option to listen to the music from the iPad speakers if I just want to sit home with a minimal setup? I also would like the screen changes and reflects what is going on when I enter different modes like FX, hotcues etc.

They definitely had to make a lot of feature sacrifices with gear this small, but who knows, possibly in a version 2.0 :)
@@digitaldjtips Hi! Hope they listen to the community and see what can be done with this first. I’m not asking to do everything with this, only that they implement things easy to access and understand for a beginner. As few buttoncombination and different views as possible. With that said, a mk2 Buddy Elite model wouldn’t be bad. ;)
I bought the controller - love it! I wish it would be a little bit bigger with more controls and made with better materials - don't mind to pay more for that. Hope it will be implemented in the future! I am waiting for a small controller, seamless integration with algoriddim and Pro features and quality! Why?! Because I am a musician who plays variety of instruments on stage and also sings so because of that I need small controller but absolutely Professional. Buddy is great but really TOO small and with fewer controls than I need and the built quality is not optimal! For example Reloop Beatpad 2 is great but too big and heavy :) ! Need something in between of course with all the newest technologies like Neural Mix!
A mid-range version of this would be very welcome :)

I know that this controller is a bit old now, are there any newer controllers made for algoriddim?
If I were to use a usb hub could I add a second controller like a launchpad that I could use to trigger additional fx?
Not sure about adding a second controller. the next big launch for djay Pro AI is the Mixon 8 Pro, due in the next couple of months.

Hey, thank you so much for the review. There is one question:
My reloop buddy makes horrible clicking noises on the master out and on the headphones as well. It's not in the app which I figured out by recording a test mix in djay. I got the 2nd device now and I got the same issue twice. Can you tell me why this is? Is it me who's doing something wrong? To me it sounds like the soundcard in the reloop buddy is broken. I tried connectin it like you did and I also used the usb now swichting to IOS Mode which worked but was also clicking.
Certainly not normal/expected behaviour, I'd suggest getting a replacement and seeing if you have the same issue

@@digitaldjtips UPDATE: I found out the clicking noise is only on the cue mix. When I turn it down it's gone. I can even fade it out by turning down the cue mix. Cue Vol to Pre Listen works fine and the Master out as well. But I don't understand why this is. Would say something is broken but it's the 2nd device I bought from two different sellers, so maybe it's a construction problem. I tried two different Ipads that work with the mixon 4 perfectly. I tried all the connection ways but the cue mix seems to be a problem. If not: I must be the problem :D but I would'nt know how. I'll study the manual and give another update when I find something out. Maybe others will have the same issue and be happy about an information here.

@@digitaldjtips alright, I used the buddy for a longer time now and the ckicking noises appear on the master output as well again. To be honest it really sounds like a sound card issue cause it sounds exactly the same when an audio driver can not handle the processing. Excuse my bad english by the way. Hope it is understandable.
It would be a pity if it was just a bad soundcard built in there, cause I really like the mechanics of the fx trigger and the small size and all that. There is no small alternative that can be used with algoriddim and an ipad. Did you try the reloop buddy for a longer time using both speakers and headphones?

Hi Phil.. so I have been using this controller works like it should iam using Android the only thing is the lights come on sumtimes I did buy another OTG adapter hopefully that fix the problem.... But over all it works every time but no lights...

Great review. Using the Reloop Buddy and IPad Pro. Having lots of fun, it’s really a great controller and easy to pack away when not using it. bit disappointing however that you cannot get the video to play on a separate screen when using iPad. I tried mirroring to Apple TV and it just doesn’t work. I don’t need the sound on another screen but just the video would be great, it sadly just doesn’t work with iPad. Despite it saying everywhere it does work :( if you figure this out I’d really appreciate any help.

For me it works! I use usb c to HDMI splitter and it works fine! Through HDMI cable!

@@lordmetaverse7296 Yes! And still you can send audio through controller and control the app! It works fine! Check in app preferences to route audio through controller and not through HDMI!
Does the Mixtrack Pro FX sound card sound better than the Buddy? Lower noise? Or is it just better in the control/button quality?

Not sure but It's designed from the ground up to work with Stems so would be a bit pointless
Also in performance mode Neural mix there is no 4th pad functionality. No ability to swap drums from the other deck. Version 4.1 on iPad 15.6.1. 9th gen

When the controller is connected directly to the iPad works fine, however, when I try to use an adaptor so I can have access to a hard disk or simply charge the iPad the software doesn’t recognize the controller. Do you know why?
Are you using the official Apple adaptor?

@@digitaldjtips i'd Like to use the Controller with Traktor (and a customized Midi mapping, of course) but your video didn't clarify whether it's technically Just a Midi Controller (which, for example, would mean the 'eq Not touching the mid-range' issue would be neglectable) or if it is in Other ways tightly bound to neuralmix (maybe via custom control Data being sent to the Software)

Hi Phil, the ipad says it is charging but it is still losing power whilst connected to the mixer. Have you or anyone else experienced this? Or am I just being daft...?
You'll need a more powerful charger.

I love using my Numark iDj with my phone or iPad with my "the box pro" (battery equiped) : Only the iPad / Console / portable speaker and 2 cables (double jack mini and lightning between iPad and iDj).
That's my ultra light and ecological set up to mix every where I go with my motorcycle.
Sure I have many different professionnal set up, but this one is the simpliest, the smallest and can do the job very nicely.
I'm searching a mini console without USB MacBook or battery pack or transformator, just a console wich can be satisfied with the power of an iPad.
I use Djay (hate Serato) on iPhone/iPad/MBP Pro, have 4 different Numark and a Denon MC4000 in flight case (really good console for Mobile Djays).
What are all the ultra low powered in the world of Djay's console ???

We do think this Reloop Buddy is a tad overpriced for what it is though
Algoriddim software is great, the controller is just too small, so small that it's missing functionality. Algoriddim should allow the software to be midi mapable with any Dj controller like VDJ. They also need to make the Stems available on PCs.
It is easily mappable to any controller

All they need now is Stems for PC.
I am still waiting for a battery powered version of the buddy.
You may be waiting a long time, as it gets its power from the iPad, so why add a battery to it?
I think the hercules small mixers are alot better and compact and work on both ios,and android

Yeah, because it has an audio interface.
It does NOT work on djay Pro for Windows. I've talked to support, and they have confirmed that it doesn't work yet, and have removed the Windows icon from the webpage

Great, I just wish someone made a video with Android.... All these controllers claim compatible but when you search online.... All kinds of problems 🤨
Unfortunately all Android devices are different, which is why for mobile DJ apps, Apple rules.

A Reloop controller that’s a bit expensive for what it is ... it wouldn’t be a Reloop controller is it wasn’t expensive for what it is.
