Bittersweet emotions... Flashbacks of loved ones and friends long gone by now... If I knew back then what I know now...I would cherish every fucking second with them
Don’t get me wrong, I’m 51 and will always love and miss the 80s. Taylor Swift’s songwriting skills, music business acumen, and pop sensibilities are world class. She has earned her global star status. That isn’t meant as a knock on Belinda Carlisle or her bandmates from the Go-Go’s. Just that cocaine is a helluva drug.
Excellent song by belinda Carlisle leave a light on awesome singer one of the best musician ever amazing voice 🎤🎸🎵🎵🎵🎵top of the pops and the backing singers were just perfect
Always loved Belinda, always loved this song. Since this was TOTP, I assume she was just miming the song. But there is just something so vibrant, cute, just full of life about her performance here. Like I think I saw her smile more here than I did in most of her videos. Even the hair was different. Just a really mesmerizing rendition, even if it wasn't the whole song. Can't believe I learned about this performance 35 years after the fact lol
its fake but in my mind i like to think she's singing it for real just so it looks convincing. i mean, if id be there id just sing it for real into a dead mic just because its nicer than pretending to make noise when you dont
....OK, to all of you whinin' about the lyp-synch....EVERYONE did it in 1989, and TOTP had their Artists do it for DECADES....It was to make sure the consumer 'heard' what they were going to buy, when they bought the Single....back THEN, People already KNEW Singers like Belinda can sing....She was already a 'proven' talent.....and, was DEVASTATINGLY GORGEOUS....The 80's Ann Margret.....😍
100 agree that was the norm back then so people can’t be critical. Bieber and his excessive use of auto tune cause he doesn’t have any talents is what people should be critical of
On TOTP from 1966 to 1980 they had to rerecord the single, then mime to it OR sing a live vocal over a backing track. If ut was a solo singer like Tom Jones, Lulu or many others they often sang live with a live backing band. The TOTP orchestra.Thats why bands like Queen devised videos to avoid having recreate Bohemian Rhapsody, it was due to the Musicians Union. After 1980 to about 1991 ish they had to mime to the single version. Then they went back to live vocals for a period. For most if the 70s the TOTP version was often somewhat different to the single version.
@kekwayblaze3176 There were technical reasons as well. Microphony, for example, when vibration from audio can cause the TV tube in the TV camera to vibrate, causing moving lines up the picture. Not good. In the TOTP studio, there wasn't time to adjust volumes and set levels to avoid this effect. It was easier to have artists mime to a quiet playback in the studio, and then add a loud audio for broadcast. It was hard to set levels for multiple artists in the studio. They didn't have time for prolonged soundchecks. Again live performance was possible, but it was harder to do. However the Musicians Union vetoed miming to a single. So artists had to perform to a rerecording. This was the case on BBC shows and ITV productions. (Granada/LWT/Thames/ATV/Yorkshire etc)
No other guitarist, since the dawn of time, has tried so hard to air guitar whilst simultaneously wearing the equivalent of 6 whole cows-worth of leather. He is positively bovine. Bravo sir. Bravo. Oh and Belinda is a goddess, just saying.
She is perfect. Love her voice so much. I'm so happy I got to see her live at least once. Definitely a highlight of my life

Wow, these were the days and the songs!
One watch of this video tells you all you need about how brilliant her music is, and why she was (and still is) such a big crush for so many of us.
Music from the 50s, 60s, 70s, 80s, 90s, 2000s, had substance. Music today is souless and empty.
She was absolutely at the peak of her beauty hear what a gorgeous woman!

Not because the artists demanded it but because the tv shows they performed on were not set up for live vocal performances.
