I agree with the artistic marks, however, I thought the technical marks were a tad inflated. That being said, I believe she more than deserved to go to the Olympics with this beautiful program. I loved the joy in her skating.
She definitely deserved her place on the Olympic team. People to let go of what happened in 1997, she was injured and there wasn't enough time to call a replacement it looked like the injury happened the day of the SP, I don't think she was injured the entire time. Besides, without Josee, Susan was really the only skater with top ten potential. Had Angela skted, she wouldn't have been in the top ten, maybe not even the top eighteen (which was needed to qualify a berth). We didn't have a strong field of women skaters. Between 1995 and 1999, the highest placement we had was 18th.
@lookscudkill If she couldn't skate then she shoulda withdrawn. Her performance was heartbreaking to watch and it cost Canada a spot at the 1998 Olympics. I'm not saying Angela Derochie would have had a stellar competition, but I think at the very least she would have qualified for the LP and that would have been enough.
She really had the skate of her life and was never able again to land six triples. She didn't even qualify for the 1997 worlds after the SP... She was talented for sure but this one-shot success cost Karen Preston a OG and worlds ticket as well as her amateur carreer...
Karen should have been sent to worlds over Susan. Susan going to the Olympics was fine but after her poor Olympic showing she should have been dropped from the World team for Karen. Karen would have won the bronze ahead of Szewcenko clearly at Worlds.

Beautiful lines, beautiful posture, and beautiful "springy" moves. How did she end up disappearing completely after her "debut" season???

Do you have Josee's performance from this championship? I'd love to see it!
