  • Described as "melodious, uplifting and accessible" (by Ben Parry, who commissioned the work for King's Voices in Cambridge) Joanna Forbes L'Estrange's canticles are fast becoming a favourite of church and cathedral choirs, both in the UK and in the USA.
Joanna Forbes L'Estrange strongly believes that musical settings of liturgical texts should, above all, paint the words in such a way that they have greater impact and meaning for the congregation than if they had merely been spoken. Having been a member of her local church choir from the age of 7 until 18, Joanna enjoys the challenge of composing church music which, while not off-puttingly difficult for a humble parish church choir to enjoy singing, is sufficiently interesting to appeal to more accomplished choirs.
One review of her setting of the Magnificat and Nunc Dimittis described the music as "Satisfying in the best sense of the word."

Again such a magical piece. Had to restrain myself from screaming with excitement at some of the harmonies. Thank you for the serotonin.

This is a solution for humanity to all live by canons of church and prey daily. The problem is it is not something church or goverment can force on peolle it have to be conscious choice of each of us.

This was during COVID in 2020. For most public music performances masks were worn.
