Sometimes when I am not watching the video but just listening, sometimes my mind visualizes C3PO when Mat is talking. It's the oddest thing and gives me chuckles.
See many complaints about having to do things through the screen and unfortunately most people, even tesla owners, dont realize much of it can be done with voice. It's not perfect but it gets the job done
after 2 years in a model 3 I've not had a problem with not being able to adjust mirrors without accessing the menu. Mainly as once they're adjusted for a driver profile they don't get changed. If my wife drives the car it recognises her phone, loads profile and adjusts mirror, seat and wheel authentically. HUD may be useful but looking slightly to the left to get the essential driver info isn't a problem for me. What worries me more about model Y and would put me off buying is poor ride quality, I couldn't live with this especially on UK roads. And no excuse apart from the extra weight, SUVs have more suspicion travel so surely Tesla can improve the ride - air suspension maybe?

I love Teslas, but there's on thing I don't like and that is that everything is controlled by a touch screen. Don't get me wrong I get why they do it, but I find it absolutely a pain to use. Give me some tactile buttons for key things such as the heating controls, stereo and mirror controls. I know I may be the exception to most people, but following a month with one I just couldn't get on with it. Perhaps I'm just old.
Don't get me wrong. The screen is brilliant. That said, being able to reach across without looking to change heater controls the radio volume and things like that I find very difficult to do without taking my eyes off the road. I'm sure I'm in the minority but this is the one thing that I don't like and unfortunately a lot of manufacturers are moving to touch screen only which I personally find unhelpful.
I own this exact same spec in red Long range, 20” wheels and with accel boost (0-60 is actually 4.2S) … absolutely love this car! Paying only $10 to charge at home is amazing! I have driven this car 14,000 miles in a span of six months (in Miami, FL) and only spent three dollars on windshield wash for maintenance! I would highly recommend this to anyone looking for a small SUV!
It's just a shame European markets get absolutely shafted by import taxes. Makes them unobtainable for the average working family man as VW offer much more affordable EVs

I don’t mind the screen - you get used to it tbh - slight glance to the right (I’m in Spain) to make sure I’m keeping to the limit. Absolutely LOVE my Model 3 LR ❤️
I just can’t get on with the fact of everything being on a single touch screen. Opening the glove box feature is good for showing off but not practical, as well as many other of the features.
It is to protect your USB drive which is inside so that no one can steal it. Either thiefs or someone who hits your car could steal it to get rid of the recording = proof if it was easy to access

@@Aiphares on that I agree. But the problem is not from the touchscreen. It’s the fact that Elon Musk is stubborn and decided to use camera vision instead of spending a couple of dollars on an extra infrared sensor like all other car manufacturers.
Matt, I mostly like your reviews. However your comment about the interior saying “I am not so sure that in the long run, It will start to fall apart quicker than an Audi, Mercedes, etc. “ is unfounded. We have had 6 Tesla’s so far (from new) and they don’t “fall apart” quicker than any other car.

I’ve heard from someone in china who bought recently a model Y at the price of 280k RMB after the bonus, which is around 25k pounds. The difference of price is shocking. The shipping cost and the import tax doesn’t explain the gap at all.
I have a 2021 Model 3 with double-glazed windows and it is super quiet inside. I agree the rear window on the Y doesn't have as good visibility as the 3. Disagree about needing a HUD, love the fact you don't have the speed constantly in your face. Phillip.

One of the reasons for the more noisy cabin in the Model Y is perhaps that it's a hatchback and not a sedan, like the Model 3. This creates more noise from the rear wheels contributing to that "big space" sound.
I have the Model Y Performance. It definitely looks cooler than the regular Model Y, but the suspension is too harsh. I much prefer the Long Range edition.
Teslas built in china have exceptional build quality. Its just ours made in America are not as consistent and have some issues. Luckily, Tesla does fix anything you complain about when taking delivery. So it is not completely bad.
I concur, I have a Chinese made Model 3. The Berlin/Austin ones should be similar quality to the chinese ones. It's just that the factory in Fremont, California is very old and not a clean sheet design.
It’s that bits keep falling off forever. My Model S has spent at least 5 weeks a year with Tesla since I got it 5 years ago. It locked my disabled som in the 3 weeks ago. Had to smash the window. My Dads has been just as bad.
One of the worst things about my model y are the automatic wipers. They run at full speed with the slightest bit of rain. Turning them on and off manually can also be frustrating. Other than that it's an amazing daily driver, very easy to drive.
I wish I wouldn't have test driven a M3P before driving the MYP...otherwise I think I would be absolutely happy with the Y and its better seating position and storage and rear seats...but the M3P was noticeably quieter and sportier.
The harsher drive on the Y compared to the 3 is due to the tyres. Tesla Bjorn changed the tyres on his loaner and made a huge difference and many other Y owners have done the same
Maybe Tesla should have a "nice ride" tire option. Some vehicles have drive mode selection and offer you several driving "modes". For what Elon changes, it should be standard!!
Great review but a few points. You don’t mention the acceleration boost option. You miss the underfloor boot storage space. (It is small) The iPhone is only visible as “the man in the boot” holds it up to the glass.

It may be an unpopular opinion, but I really hate physical buttons. Voice or touch screen, that's it, welcome to the future. So glad both Tesla and Rivian don't seem to be listening to the buttons crowd.
I love how they constantly go on about Peugeot having climate controls on the screen, rather than turn dials. Yet with Tesla's, it's also all controlled through the screen, yet not even a mention about that.
My wife’s just arrived a few weeks ago …agree a great car, all around. One unexpected significant plus is not having to go to gas stations anymore ! Didn’t realize how nice that would be, but it’s great !
Someones been bitten by the Tesla bug, is driving his moms Tesla from time to time, or reads comments and actually remembers features people write about because he missed them in previous videos... This is the first review I've seen ever, where the reviewer knew, that if you manually initiate the windscreen wipers, that the menu for changing the wiper speed pops up, so you can change it easy and fast. Small but convenient and fast short cuts like this and that more of these, often by customer request, are added all the time, is what makes Teslas so easy to live with.
@@Carebears95 You know what is even more convenient than that? If you do not have to care at all because they start to wipe and stop automatically. I have wipers on áuto and have touched speed settings maybe 2 times in 3 years, where there was really annoying rain that the autowipe didn't like.
Btw for those who don’t know, one of the buttons on the steering wheel is customizable so if you want it to change temperature with the scroll wheel, open the glove box, activate windshield wipers, etc it can do those things. I use it for saving dashcam footage. Honestly many of the problems people have with these Teslas is only because they don’t know how because it’s different. Windshield wipers, temperature changing, and basic media control can all be done with the buttons on or around the wheel, no need to touch the screen (despite what I’ve seen some reviewers in other videos complain about)
My first Month experience with Tesla Y 2022 Performance(with AutosPilot Enhanced no full beta) - made in Berlin Germany. Short background - Living in IL, Coming from Volvo S90(2019) and XC60(2010). I like the car very much, easy to get used to the one pedal driving acceleration and steering. Love your review but I have a bit of different experience. Had no problem with the build. Comments and issues I do have(ordered from most annoying to less) - Navigation: The google maps implementation in the car is not working well enough(especially compared to Waze). Maps show wrong driving directions, missing exits and wrong routing. Happens nemours times, from trying to exit on closed ramps to driving directions into bus only lanes. The navigation display when driving slowly is zoomed out too far. Hard to see clearly which exit the map’s routing is pointing to in tight areas. When the screen is pinched and zoomed in it holds that way for a short time only then zooms out. When driving slowly or next to a junction with hard turns the zoom should automatically go “in”(just like Waze). Colors do not pop well enough for people with impaired eyesight(people over 45), that's true for the whole screen and UI not just maps Autopilot: The auto steering is a bit stiff in the sense that it does not allow any user corrections once “on” - sometimes you want to nudge the car a bit left or right in the lane - when another car edges towards you, or when the lane marking is off or too narrow on one side. We have a LOT of road construction in Israel that changes all the time and the markings on the road are not great which edges too close to the barrier. When engaging the Autopilot(with auto steering) at a traffic jam at low speed the max speed should be 30KM/h not the speed limit. There are too “strong” stops and starts at low speed. Things should be a bit more gentle. Passengers get a rough ride. I was punished by the Autopilot system on one of the first drives because I “did not have my hands on the wheel”, and was told I can have no autopilot until the end of the drive. It was incorrect. I was trying to squeeze the steering wheel like I was used to from the Volvo. Apparently that does not work here, you need to steer left or right gently. Steering while in auto steering should disengage, let you change lanes, then engage again not disengage completely! The Autopilot system is a bit too noisy even in Joe mode I’m getting phantom breaks for no reason from time to time. Some when traffic is congested around me and some with no reason when some car in another lane makes some kind of change. Maybe I need to do some more driving to get an idea why this is happening AC I sometimes notice the temperature control is not responding fast enough to cabin temperature. There is too much heat coming from the side windows and front screen. Suggest fitting the upper part of the front screen with some shade. Most cars have it and it's legal. About 3-4 inches wide across the to reduce glare and heat. Suspension: Good but not great for the high price tag - 115,000$ with tax here in Israel!!! Missing features: Add CarPlay!!!!!!! HUD is a must Add vented AC in the seats would be great Change the display color scheme. Add contrast the gray color and button defaults are confusing, in many places in the menus Add a unhook button next to the cable charge port Improve the floor mats Add better organization to the compartments under the screen Electric control frunk. The way it's built is not so easy to use.

@@maxmeier532 it doesn't matter if that is or isn't the case. The EV6GT is not even in production so if he drove one, it would've been a prototype and that would've been disclosed to him. Whether we saw it or not doesn't matter. The performance numbers on the EV6 are public knowledge. 0-60 in 3.5s or less, and a quarter mile of 11.7s. Infact the ONLY reason to believe he didn't include that fact would be _because_ he hasn't driven the EV6 GT. I believe he even said in his video with the GT-line that 'there will be a 577 horsepower version coming at a later date'. But factoids like that probably go in one ear and out the other for a lot of journalists. As remembering everything is harder than reading from a teleprompter or rehearsing a dedicated review and retaining it all. His statement of "high performance EV6" was incorrect, that's all. Because you can't say something is high performance when it's not even the high performance. Just as you wouldn't call a Tesla Model S 85D, Tesla's high performance full size sedan. Because you know that their high performance plaid,(or P100D, depending on time of scenario) exists. Mat takes the time to tell you that, "this is quicker than the high performance Hyundai IONIQ 5 and Kia EV6, [but this is the _slower_ version of the Model Y]." Then proceeds to state that the Model Y performance will do 0-60 in 3.5s. which is the same claimed time as the Kia EV6 GT. So he didn't drive one, and he forgot that there is one, or he's choosing to not include it, because it's not a car that is for sale yet.
HUD is a must on this car and the model 3. Tesla came up with pretty much everything they can think of yet can't give us HUD which keeps our eyes on the road instead of peeping over the centre screen.
I would go even further I would say that any car above 25k (especially electric) should have a heads up display standard. it’s one of the safest way of checking your speed, some other info and in some luxurious cars even your navigation

The lack of a Heads Up display in what Musk wants to define as the most techy car is just ridiculous! A total deal breaker for me who loves technology, otherwise I would most definitely buy one!
This is the MIC model Y which may be slightly different to the MIG model Y. The MIG model Y will have front and rear castings, structural battery pack, different paint and the one that could impact any reviews, the 4680 battery, with range and charging speed. All reviews I've seen say the ride is hard, I'm hoping the MIG model Y gets air suspension.

Ive just priced a lease for one of these, 10k a year 1 month deposit, 48 months. £699. At that price the fuel savings are almost irrelevant. This isnt going to normalise EVs in the UK, its too expensive.
Not having a HUD or any screen centred in front of driver is a giant mistake. So much for safety. That would be me immediately saying no to buying this just because of that.
HUD only. Traditional speedometer location is no different you still have to take your eyes off the road and it's no safer than how Tesla is doing it, I use the speed reading on my windscreen mounted GPS because it's actually in my line of sight and that's the only safer option, hence HUDs. For such a technological car it makes no sense it doesn't have a HUD.
Buy aftermarket if you really need something to obstruct field of view. As an owner I can say it's easier to quickly check speed in the corner of central screen (less eye movement and less refocusing).
Getting to choose a car soon so my question is after watching all the reviews. I4 M50, Etron GT, Q4 etron, Polstar, I pace??? Love the I4 but not sure on boot space
Q4 I have one and its great. Easily fast enough, proper controls, turns heads, predictable range, quality build. It a smooth quiet well built Audi that just happens to be electric and gimmick free
"Really good SUV, but does face some pretty stiff competition." I really can't call this an SUV. It's a crossover. Competition from where? I'd genuinely like to know. The Ionic is quirky, but slower and can only use a public charging network. The Mach E is also cool, but much less efficient, more ordinary and has ground clearance that's way too low. Nothing at all from Europe in this category for the near future, unfortunately. Tesla is going to continue to own this category.
Q4 Etron, EV6, ID4, Enyaq. Lots of competition in Europe. Would still expect Model Y to sell very well. Does feel like Model Y is starting to lose its technological lead though
Tesla look cheap from outside and inside, and you have brands like Audi and BMW that offer better in terms of confort and quality, besides the design is way better (this is subjective) but Confort and quality isnt, Tesla has some models with better range thats the strenght of teslas, better batteries for now and ONLY in a few models.
@@delusion2987 koreans feel cheap and plasticky in reality and ergonomics are pretty bad. Less useful space/volumes, worse efficiency. Tech/software is nowhere close. Charging is faster (if you find charger) but overheats battery (and I'm not betting on long-term reliability). This is physics unfortunately. "Bigger warranty" is limited and provided by 3rd party, so it's basically few hundred dollars gift/discount, not a big deal. Just like with their ICE cars, you should read very carefully of what they really offer.
@@archive4059 The competition has certainly arrived and arrived before the Model Y did in Europe. It's great that Tesla finally got some competition! I don't agree that Tesla look cheap though, it is minimalistic, but that's different. We've been driving a Model 3 since march 2019 and it's got >65k km on the odometer so far without issues. The cabin holds up well, there's no rattles or anything like that so far. To me, that's a sign of decent quality and that's a model built at their Freemont factory, from what I hear, the fit and finish and quality from the Shanghai factory where the Model Y to Europe comes from, are better. It'll be interesting to see when they start production at their Berlin factory and start using their new 4680 battery cells. I hope they will make longer range a priority, then we might very well replace our Model 3 with a Model Y.

It is stupid expensive. Taking delivery of a 7 seat model Y this month for 70k to replace my 08 sequoia. The other day I decided to look at the new sequoia to compare and a local dealer had a “used” 2023 sequoia limited for 98k. I have 6 kids and I can’t find any semi luxurious vehicle to fit 7-8 that isn’t an insane amount of money. I miss the days of old, like 4 years ago.
Why do you need 100 buttons for functions that you use once and never touch again? Honestly, once you use it daily you realise how silly “old” car interiors are.

I remember the old electric trolley buses -you really had to hang on when they accelerated ,as a kid I was impressed .The electric vehicles will out accelerate most things I can never see Tesla making a Bentley-esque interior ,though .
Just, who actually need that acceleration? Much more people would enjoy better quality materials in the car....it doesn't have to be as good as Bentley, but at least like Renault Megane or bmw serie 3 in cases of Tesla's 3 and Y
@@bojantenja it's not about needing it. Engineering what is behind the acceleration is a one time thing that can be put into every car and it catches people interested to buy. Much harder and more expensive to improve quality and keep a standard. I'm with you obviously. Biggest problem with Teslas isnt likely quality itself anymore but the lack of infrastructure to get repairs in your region and in an acceptable time frame. Let alone the fact that there are hardly any independent bodyshops cause Tesla, against the promoted idea of environmentalism, doesnt want people to be able to repair their tesla themselves or trough independent shops. The excuse of system safety is obviously a lie since it wouldnt be hard for tesla to make sure all repairs are appropriate over their over air connection to the cars.
@@bojantenja have you actually sat in a à recent Tesla ? I own a Model 3 SR+ 2021, interior quality is very good, lots of soft materials and everything feels pleasant to the touch. And most important in any interior - seats are very comfortable on long journeys.
I love minimalist styling in the interior. I just don’t like clutter so that dash is calming to me just by looking at it. However, they have gone too far and some hard buttons would be useful.
Ordered my Model Y Long Range in April. Didn’t even consider buying anything else. Matt your completely wrong, shouldn’t have shortlisted it, just go right ahead and buy one. If you can get the availability that is.
I just ordered mine with standard 19's as the guy at the store was like "you really don't want the 20's" that sold me on the concept of a Tesla and their no hard sell! So refreshing!
I have the exact model shown here, and it such an amazing vehicle for a daily driver! Fast, comfortable, and full of tech. The downside: especially with the 20" wheels, the stock suspension is noticeably rough! I'm going to sell the 20" wheels, get aftermarket 19" wheels with a larger profile tire, and install aftermarket suspension from either Mountain Pass Performance or Unplugged Performance. Overall this vehicle is a huge win!
It's all that tech that puts me off them, I get bored with technology doing things for me, it's nice to be able to achieve things without relying on tech
Hopefully Tesla will fix the suspension soon. You can even see in the video that it is way too stiff and bumpy. The long range version should have a comftable suspension and only the performance a sporty one. I mean it is an SUV for travelling. Whats the point in having a harsh suspension? Just annoying everyone in the car including yourself.
@@jasheel19 Well but most cars dont have air suspension and offer nevertheless a good comfort level. Like Ioniq 5 for example or Skoda Enyak. It's more the setup which seem to be not as weel engineered from Tesla. Problem with Tesla is not only that it's a sporty firmness. It's harsh. So a very big spike of impact after the bump and then no movement at all. Worst setup you can choose for a non-sportscar.

One underrated thing about the regenerative braking and something I love about the Tesla is the lack of brake dust build up on the wheels...
Does that not go for all EV's with regen?
after 2 years in a model 3 I've not had a problem with not being able to adjust mirrors without accessing the menu. Mainly as once they're adjusted for a driver profile they don't get changed. If my wife drives the car it recognises her phone, loads profile and adjusts mirror, seat and wheel authentically. HUD may be useful but looking slightly to the left to get the essential driver info isn't a problem for me. What worries me more about model Y and would put me off buying is poor ride quality, I couldn't live with this especially on UK roads. And no excuse apart from the extra weight, SUVs have more suspicion travel so surely Tesla can improve the ride - air suspension maybe?
0 to 60 in 4.9s whilst starting on a bend in wet conditions. Even the second run wasn't on exactly a straight road. Impressive!

I love Teslas, but there's on thing I don't like and that is that everything is controlled by a touch screen. Don't get me wrong I get why they do it, but I find it absolutely a pain to use. Give me some tactile buttons for key things such as the heating controls, stereo and mirror controls. I know I may be the exception to most people, but following a month with one I just couldn't get on with it. Perhaps I'm just old.
It's exact opposite for me, I got so used to the touch screen I just can't see the point of lots of buttons anymore.
grab a used model S or X, you get the best of both worlds!
I'm 25 and love physical buttons. Easier to use, you don't really need to take your eyes off the road to operate them.

Don't get me wrong. The screen is brilliant. That said, being able to reach across without looking to change heater controls the radio volume and things like that I find very difficult to do without taking my eyes off the road. I'm sure I'm in the minority but this is the one thing that I don't like and unfortunately a lot of manufacturers are moving to touch screen only which I personally find unhelpful.
I own this exact same spec in red Long range, 20” wheels and with accel boost (0-60 is actually 4.2S) … absolutely love this car! Paying only $10 to charge at home is amazing! I have driven this car 14,000 miles in a span of six months (in Miami, FL) and only spent three dollars on windshield wash for maintenance! I would highly recommend this to anyone looking for a small SUV!
It's just a shame European markets get absolutely shafted by import taxes. Makes them unobtainable for the average working family man as VW offer much more affordable EVs

Speedometer is something I always want to be easily visible.
I just can’t get on with the fact of everything being on a single touch screen. Opening the glove box feature is good for showing off but not practical, as well as many other of the features.
It is to protect your USB drive which is inside so that no one can steal it. Either thiefs or someone who hits your car could steal it to get rid of the recording = proof if it was easy to access

@@Aiphares on that I agree. But the problem is not from the touchscreen. It’s the fact that Elon Musk is stubborn and decided to use camera vision instead of spending a couple of dollars on an extra infrared sensor like all other car manufacturers.

It was introduced to Model 3 already, according to Tesla forum owners it makes no perceptible difference
I’ve heard from someone in china who bought recently a model Y at the price of 280k RMB after the bonus, which is around 25k pounds. The difference of price is shocking. The shipping cost and the import tax doesn’t explain the gap at all.
I have a 2021 Model 3 with double-glazed windows and it is super quiet inside. I agree the rear window on the Y doesn't have as good visibility as the 3. Disagree about needing a HUD, love the fact you don't have the speed constantly in your face.

One of the reasons for the more noisy cabin in the Model Y is perhaps that it's a hatchback and not a sedan, like the Model 3. This creates more noise from the rear wheels contributing to that "big space" sound.

I have the Model Y Performance. It definitely looks cooler than the regular Model Y, but the suspension is too harsh. I much prefer the Long Range edition.

Teslas built in china have exceptional build quality. Its just ours made in America are not as consistent and have some issues. Luckily, Tesla does fix anything you complain about when taking delivery. So it is not completely bad.
I concur, I have a Chinese made Model 3. The Berlin/Austin ones should be similar quality to the chinese ones. It's just that the factory in Fremont, California is very old and not a clean sheet design.

It’s that bits keep falling off forever. My Model S has spent at least 5 weeks a year with Tesla since I got it 5 years ago. It locked my disabled som in the 3 weeks ago. Had to smash the window. My Dads has been just as bad.

One of the worst things about my model y are the automatic wipers. They run at full speed with the slightest bit of rain. Turning them on and off manually can also be frustrating. Other than that it's an amazing daily driver, very easy to drive.
They will fix it in a software update.

I wish I wouldn't have test driven a M3P before driving the MYP...otherwise I think I would be absolutely happy with the Y and its better seating position and storage and rear seats...but the M3P was noticeably quieter and sportier.

The harsher drive on the Y compared to the 3 is due to the tyres. Tesla Bjorn changed the tyres on his loaner and made a huge difference and many other Y owners have done the same
Maybe Tesla should have a "nice ride" tire option. Some vehicles have drive mode selection and offer you several driving "modes". For what Elon changes, it should be standard!!

You miss the underfloor boot storage space. (It is small)
The iPhone is only visible as “the man in the boot” holds it up to the glass.

It may be an unpopular opinion, but I really hate physical buttons. Voice or touch screen, that's it, welcome to the future. So glad both Tesla and Rivian don't seem to be listening to the buttons crowd.
I love how they constantly go on about Peugeot having climate controls on the screen, rather than turn dials. Yet with Tesla's, it's also all controlled through the screen, yet not even a mention about that.

Someones been bitten by the Tesla bug, is driving his moms Tesla from time to time, or reads comments and actually remembers features people write about because he missed them in previous videos... This is the first review I've seen ever, where the reviewer knew, that if you manually initiate the windscreen wipers, that the menu for changing the wiper speed pops up, so you can change it easy and fast.
Small but convenient and fast short cuts like this and that more of these, often by customer request, are added all the time, is what makes Teslas so easy to live with.

You know what’s also convenient and even faster? A kind of stick thing behind the steering wheel to turn on the wipers on
@@Carebears95 You know what is even more convenient than that? If you do not have to care at all because they start to wipe and stop automatically. I have wipers on áuto and have touched speed settings maybe 2 times in 3 years, where there was really annoying rain that the autowipe didn't like.

Btw for those who don’t know, one of the buttons on the steering wheel is customizable so if you want it to change temperature with the scroll wheel, open the glove box, activate windshield wipers, etc it can do those things. I use it for saving dashcam footage. Honestly many of the problems people have with these Teslas is only because they don’t know how because it’s different. Windshield wipers, temperature changing, and basic media control can all be done with the buttons on or around the wheel, no need to touch the screen (despite what I’ve seen some reviewers in other videos complain about)
My first Month experience with Tesla Y 2022 Performance(with AutosPilot Enhanced no full beta) - made in Berlin Germany.
Short background - Living in IL, Coming from Volvo S90(2019) and XC60(2010). I like the car very much, easy to get used to the one pedal driving acceleration and steering. Love your review but I have a bit of different experience. Had no problem with the build.
Comments and issues I do have(ordered from most annoying to less) -
Navigation:
The google maps implementation in the car is not working well enough(especially compared to Waze). Maps show wrong driving directions, missing exits and wrong routing. Happens nemours times, from trying to exit on closed ramps to driving directions into bus only lanes.
The navigation display when driving slowly is zoomed out too far. Hard to see clearly which exit the map’s routing is pointing to in tight areas. When the screen is pinched and zoomed in it holds that way for a short time only then zooms out. When driving slowly or next to a junction with hard turns the zoom should automatically go “in”(just like Waze).
Colors do not pop well enough for people with impaired eyesight(people over 45), that's true for the whole screen and UI not just maps
Autopilot:
The auto steering is a bit stiff in the sense that it does not allow any user corrections once “on” - sometimes you want to nudge the car a bit left or right in the lane - when another car edges towards you, or when the lane marking is off or too narrow on one side. We have a LOT of road construction in Israel that changes all the time and the markings on the road are not great which edges too close to the barrier.
When engaging the Autopilot(with auto steering) at a traffic jam at low speed the max speed should be 30KM/h not the speed limit.
There are too “strong” stops and starts at low speed. Things should be a bit more gentle. Passengers get a rough ride.
I was punished by the Autopilot system on one of the first drives because I “did not have my hands on the wheel”, and was told I can have no autopilot until the end of the drive. It was incorrect. I was trying to squeeze the steering wheel like I was used to from the Volvo. Apparently that does not work here, you need to steer left or right gently.
Steering while in auto steering should disengage, let you change lanes, then engage again not disengage completely!
The Autopilot system is a bit too noisy even in Joe mode
I’m getting phantom breaks for no reason from time to time. Some when traffic is congested around me and some with no reason when some car in another lane makes some kind of change. Maybe I need to do some more driving to get an idea why this is happening
AC
I sometimes notice the temperature control is not responding fast enough to cabin temperature.
There is too much heat coming from the side windows and front screen. Suggest fitting the upper part of the front screen with some shade. Most cars have it and it's legal. About 3-4 inches wide across the to reduce glare and heat.
Suspension:
Good but not great for the high price tag - 115,000$ with tax here in Israel!!!
Missing features:
Add CarPlay!!!!!!!
HUD is a must
Add vented AC in the seats would be great
Change the display color scheme. Add contrast the gray color and button defaults are confusing, in many places in the menus
Add a unhook button next to the cable charge port
Improve the floor mats
Add better organization to the compartments under the screen
Electric control frunk. The way it's built is not so easy to use.
My friend bought one a while ago and man! What a beautiful car. They have improved the panel gaps

@@maxmeier532 it doesn't matter if that is or isn't the case. The EV6GT is not even in production so if he drove one, it would've been a prototype and that would've been disclosed to him. Whether we saw it or not doesn't matter. The performance numbers on the EV6 are public knowledge. 0-60 in 3.5s or less, and a quarter mile of 11.7s.
Infact the ONLY reason to believe he didn't include that fact would be _because_ he hasn't driven the EV6 GT. I believe he even said in his video with the GT-line that 'there will be a 577 horsepower version coming at a later date'. But factoids like that probably go in one ear and out the other for a lot of journalists. As remembering everything is harder than reading from a teleprompter or rehearsing a dedicated review and retaining it all. His statement of "high performance EV6" was incorrect, that's all. Because you can't say something is high performance when it's not even the high performance. Just as you wouldn't call a Tesla Model S 85D, Tesla's high performance full size sedan. Because you know that their high performance plaid,(or P100D, depending on time of scenario) exists.
Mat takes the time to tell you that, "this is quicker than the high performance Hyundai IONIQ 5 and Kia EV6, [but this is the _slower_ version of the Model Y]."
Then proceeds to state that the Model Y performance will do 0-60 in 3.5s. which is the same claimed time as the Kia EV6 GT. So he didn't drive one, and he forgot that there is one, or he's choosing to not include it, because it's not a car that is for sale yet.
HUD is a must on this car and the model 3. Tesla came up with pretty much everything they can think of yet can't give us HUD which keeps our eyes on the road instead of peeping over the centre screen.

I've been saying since day one the Tesla model S the model X and the model Y should have all came out the gate with heads up display.
I would go even further I would say that any car above 25k (especially electric) should have a heads up display standard. it’s one of the safest way of checking your speed, some other info and in some luxurious cars even your navigation

You def shouldn't buy a model y right now. They're about to switch to the new battery and they'll be a lot better for it

I have a Y, and the suspension /ride is fine on stock wheels. Those wheels as tested on the video aren't standard.
Rewatched this. Final verdict to shortlist based on stiff competition was never realistic and global sales prove this. If you want an EV there's really nothing comparable to a Tesla.

This is the MIC model Y which may be slightly different to the MIG model Y. The MIG model Y will have front and rear castings, structural battery pack, different paint and the one that could impact any reviews, the 4680 battery, with range and charging speed. All reviews I've seen say the ride is hard, I'm hoping the MIG model Y gets air suspension.
Might take a while for all these goodies to get added to the MIG MY.

This isnt going to normalise EVs in the UK, its too expensive.
Not having a HUD or any screen centred in front of driver is a giant mistake. So much for safety. That would be me immediately saying no to buying this just because of that.
HUD only. Traditional speedometer location is no different you still have to take your eyes off the road and it's no safer than how Tesla is doing it, I use the speed reading on my windscreen mounted GPS because it's actually in my line of sight and that's the only safer option, hence HUDs. For such a technological car it makes no sense it doesn't have a HUD.
Buy aftermarket if you really need something to obstruct field of view. As an owner I can say it's easier to quickly check speed in the corner of central screen (less eye movement and less refocusing).
I’ve been driving the model 3 for 80.000mm now and never ever felt like this is unsafe or distracted me of the road.

Q4 I have one and its great. Easily fast enough, proper controls, turns heads, predictable range, quality build. It a smooth quiet well built Audi that just happens to be electric and gimmick free

I really can't call this an SUV. It's a crossover. Competition from where? I'd genuinely like to know. The Ionic is quirky, but slower and can only use a public charging network. The Mach E is also cool, but much less efficient, more ordinary and has ground clearance that's way too low. Nothing at all from Europe in this category for the near future, unfortunately. Tesla is going to continue to own this category.
Q4 Etron, EV6, ID4, Enyaq. Lots of competition in Europe. Would still expect Model Y to sell very well. Does feel like Model Y is starting to lose its technological lead though
Tesla look cheap from outside and inside, and you have brands like Audi and BMW that offer better in terms of confort and quality, besides the design is way better (this is subjective) but Confort and quality isnt, Tesla has some models with better range thats the strenght of teslas, better batteries for now and ONLY in a few models.
@@delusion2987 koreans feel cheap and plasticky in reality and ergonomics are pretty bad. Less useful space/volumes, worse efficiency. Tech/software is nowhere close. Charging is faster (if you find charger) but overheats battery (and I'm not betting on long-term reliability). This is physics unfortunately.
"Bigger warranty" is limited and provided by 3rd party, so it's basically few hundred dollars gift/discount, not a big deal. Just like with their ICE cars, you should read very carefully of what they really offer.
@@archive4059 The competition has certainly arrived and arrived before the Model Y did in Europe. It's great that Tesla finally got some competition! I don't agree that Tesla look cheap though, it is minimalistic, but that's different. We've been driving a Model 3 since march 2019 and it's got >65k km on the odometer so far without issues. The cabin holds up well, there's no rattles or anything like that so far. To me, that's a sign of decent quality and that's a model built at their Freemont factory, from what I hear, the fit and finish and quality from the Shanghai factory where the Model Y to Europe comes from, are better.
It'll be interesting to see when they start production at their Berlin factory and start using their new 4680 battery cells. I hope they will make longer range a priority, then we might very well replace our Model 3 with a Model Y.

I think AMD Ryzen is powering the entertainment console, hence it is fast and responsive.
idk about if they already use that there, but i know they are using RDNA2 Architechture which is their GPU not Ryzen as their CPU

It is stupid expensive. Taking delivery of a 7 seat model Y this month for 70k to replace my 08 sequoia. The other day I decided to look at the new sequoia to compare and a local dealer had a “used” 2023 sequoia limited for 98k. I have 6 kids and I can’t find any semi luxurious vehicle to fit 7-8 that isn’t an insane amount of money. I miss the days of old, like 4 years ago.

Why do you need 100 buttons for functions that you use once and never touch again? Honestly, once you use it daily you realise how silly “old” car interiors are.

I remember the old electric trolley buses -you really had to hang on when they accelerated ,as a kid I was impressed .The electric vehicles will out accelerate most things I can never see Tesla making a Bentley-esque interior ,though .
Just, who actually need that acceleration? Much more people would enjoy better quality materials in the car....it doesn't have to be as good as Bentley, but at least like Renault Megane or bmw serie 3 in cases of Tesla's 3 and Y
@@bojantenja it's not about needing it. Engineering what is behind the acceleration is a one time thing that can be put into every car and it catches people interested to buy. Much harder and more expensive to improve quality and keep a standard. I'm with you obviously. Biggest problem with Teslas isnt likely quality itself anymore but the lack of infrastructure to get repairs in your region and in an acceptable time frame. Let alone the fact that there are hardly any independent bodyshops cause Tesla, against the promoted idea of environmentalism, doesnt want people to be able to repair their tesla themselves or trough independent shops. The excuse of system safety is obviously a lie since it wouldnt be hard for tesla to make sure all repairs are appropriate over their over air connection to the cars.

@@bojantenja have you actually sat in a à recent Tesla ? I own a Model 3 SR+ 2021, interior quality is very good, lots of soft materials and everything feels pleasant to the touch. And most important in any interior - seats are very comfortable on long journeys.

I love minimalist styling in the interior. I just don’t like clutter so that dash is calming to me just by looking at it. However, they have gone too far and some hard buttons would be useful.

Suspension is one of the biggest drawbacks of the Y so it would be dumb to make the ride even harsher than necessary!
I have the exact model shown here, and it such an amazing vehicle for a daily driver! Fast, comfortable, and full of tech. The downside: especially with the 20" wheels, the stock suspension is noticeably rough! I'm going to sell the 20" wheels, get aftermarket 19" wheels with a larger profile tire, and install aftermarket suspension from either Mountain Pass Performance or Unplugged Performance. Overall this vehicle is a huge win!
It's all that tech that puts me off them, I get bored with technology doing things for me, it's nice to be able to achieve things without relying on tech
Ah, finally a Tesla owner who is willing to acknowledge this. This car absolutely needs adaptive suspension. The ride quality is unacceptable as is.

Hopefully Tesla will fix the suspension soon. You can even see in the video that it is way too stiff and bumpy. The long range version should have a comftable suspension and only the performance a sporty one. I mean it is an SUV for travelling. Whats the point in having a harsh suspension? Just annoying everyone in the car including yourself.
Models 3 and Y have shock suspension while models X and S have air suspension…shocks are really bumpy
@@jasheel19 Well but most cars dont have air suspension and offer nevertheless a good comfort level. Like Ioniq 5 for example or Skoda Enyak. It's more the setup which seem to be not as weel engineered from Tesla. Problem with Tesla is not only that it's a sporty firmness. It's harsh. So a very big spike of impact after the bump and then no movement at all. Worst setup you can choose for a non-sportscar.
