I dont recall how our horse reacted to our goats when we first got them. Anyways, she was a mare and that became her herd, she was soooooo protective of them and anytime new kids dropped she was right there by their side. You could even hear her from time to time chasing coyotes off at night

This is 6:53 long thread of gold for those dreaming for creating a family homestead. It is for me. :) Thank you so much for sharing your experiences. It feeds and strengthens my dream.

This is great!! I thing 2014 was a study in switzerland that says: it's actually good keeping Cows and goats AND sheeps together. same reason why horses and cows are a good "partnership" the cows eats the pasture clean???? not know how to say in english? which is obviously not my first language... the cows eats the parasites of the goats and sheeps that are in the poop... so the cows keep the goats more healthy.

Have you ever asked Kay's parents why they didn't build their house and barn on the TOP of that hill? Too much wind?

Loved watching you work with and teach your children. When adding grass to a garden, you should use young spring grass to minimize the amount of grass and weed seeds you putting into the beds. Also, it should be mentioned that you shouldn't put a very thick layer so that it dries out instead of heating up and beginning to compost in the bed. It is a great, organic way to mulch.

I run my goats and cows together however 2 wires will not keep them in ! It's a pain to run 3 wires for the goats when 1 wire is all that's needed for cows...if you don't mind the extra work no big deal.

When you cow calves out again be careful that the calf doesn't be a bully to the goats, other then that cows, goats, sheep and horses get along and they all eat different parts of the grass stock.

#AskHomesteady Austin, why is your goat munching on the black cherry volunteer tree at 6:06 ? You put in all that time to clear out the felled branch, but apparently missed the sucker coming out of the base of that tree.

#@homesteady GREAT MORNING Why don't you do like Joel salatin and Greg Judy and move them in quarter pastures and that will also allow you to save some of your lower Paddock for the winter by having them quarter grades hope to hear from you soon congratulations on the baby

My first, oldest and most special goat had to be put to sleep 2 nights ago because she wouldn't back down from my heifer calf :'(. Internal injuries were too great...I'm heartbroken.

@@BrianBriCurInTheOC For good reasons they do not mention their children's names. I wish they would just give each kid a nickname to refer to, like TheTexasBoys do. Easier to say "Rufus" or "Buddy" than 'not your oldest son' or 'your darker haired son' or 'boy #3'...

Be very careful! My mini cow actually just kicked my beloved goat bailey I raised him from hours old and unfortunately on the way to the vet he passed. It was due to a ruptured bladder after being kicked. So please keep this in mind it broke me to pieces I didn’t eat or sleep I felt broken. I’d hate to see someone else deal with this!
