Awesome 👍 I donate food to food banks too. After losing my job almost 3 years ago, it’s a cause very close to my heart. (I have a job now, it’s just easy to forget how close you are to the bottom of life sometimes) and it serves to remind me 🙂
Generous of you to offer your monthly income from TH-cam to a charity helping those in need. Great ideas here, but one note as some without power may have no water; or the recipes would depend on bottled water storage. I’m in NE Ohio and years ago, a tornado-like storm came through and we were without power for almost 2 weeks. Had to clean the fridge/freezer out. We cooked meats over a man made campfire - ate some, but gave much to neighbors. That felt so good to do this! God bless.
Great ideas! You could also add a bottle of water to the soup one in case the emergency is a natural disaster and your water becomes contaminated. I love that you give back with the proceeds from your channel. Thank you for sharing (your ideas and your profits 👍)
I come from the South Carolina coast line and every year during hurricane season we usually lose electricity (or worse). When your freezer and fridge are struggling to stay cold from lack of electric, you pretty much leave the doors closed to preserve the cold and eat out of the pantry while you wait for your power to be restored or your entire freezer full of food to thaw out while in the freezer which ever comes first. So, since non-spoiling pantry meal ideas are on my mind, and you have shared so many delicious sounding pantry meals with me, I just wanted to give you one of my absolute favs with so many different variations that its my go to when the electric goes out yearly. It does require some water which I keep in storage and I cook it over a propane camping stove when the electric is out, but sometimes you just need a nice hot, hearty meal when there's a hurricane bearing down on you dumping tons of cold water in the form of rain that's attacking you LITERALLY from any angle you can imagine. I call it my ALL IN POTATOES because its such a simple and delicious pantry meal. · Pkt of (Au Gratin/Scalloped) potatoes · Can of cream of (celery/mushroom/chicken) soup to substitute water with in potatoes · Can or jar of Mushroom/asparagus · One protein. Choose from: · Canned chicken/turkey/tuna ·Or Vienna Sausages/cut summer sausage/frozen Sausage · Or beef · Cajun/Chili powder to flavor · Salt & pepper to flavor Just combine all ingredients in a boiling pan with the cooking potatoes. To save on water usage you can just pour all your fluids from the cans or jars of food in to cook the potatoes in. Add the delicate veggies at very end to heat so that you avoid serious decomposition issues with the asparagus. Stir and serve. It is cheap, pantry stable, easy to cook, super filling and so so yummy 😋 The thing I love the best about it is that you can adjust the size of the meal for the number of people by using less of the potato packet and buying individual size canned servings.
We lost our home in a flood, the Salvation Army was so very helpful during that time. We received a lot of relief from several sources right away afterward, but the Salvation Army continued to help for several months after. They had trucks that drove through the neighborhood daily with meals and water. It helped so much with the cleanup and rebuild to know that we were going to get to eat a good meal that day.
Thanks for the inspiration to do this! I live in Slidell, LA and evacuated for hurricane Ida. Even after we came home, we were without power for another couple days (7 days without power). This is a great idea because you never know when you’ll need it and you give great inexpensive options. I finally get to go grocery shopping tomorrow to replenish my fridge / freezer after losing everything 😔 Salvation Army and other places in the community helped us by giving free, hot meals before we could get a few items to put back in our fridge.
When you mentioned "more is not more", keep in mind that if you don't have power, you don't have refrigeration. While a larger package is usually a better value, if you can't properly store the remainder, it will be wasted. I love that you are doing this and donating your proceeds to important causes!
Yes this what happened to us this earlier ice and snow and rain and freeze storm which caused no electric, no water and much damage in so surrounding places. It took many weeks to get help and many changes were made and done to our apartment complex as well as surrounding areas…
I love this! I can’t wait to try the refried bean soup thickener trick next time I make tortilla soup! Love this kind of video. In my hometown, we have a “blessing box” that’s open to the public to use and we’re able to place shelf-stable items in the box so that anyone in need can help themselves. I am going to use a few of these ideas to put MEAL blessings in the box with cards on how to prepare; something I’d never thought of until this video. Thank you for the inspiration ❤️
A can of mushrooms, instant rice, cream of chicken or mushrooms and a can of chicken heated in a pot makes a nice little meal. Rice a roni (any flavor) with chopped tomatoes, corn and peas makes another meal.
Just a thought. When you label your bags with the paper saying what it is for, you may want to put below that the expiration dates of the products within. That way it is just a quick glance every once in a while to verify your food is still good or how close expiration it may be so it may be replaced with fresher and original used.
I can remember when I was younger hurricane fredric devastated the town I lived in Bayou La Batre. Food came in for everyone from all over. My mom took those boxed Au Gratin potatoes and put canned ham in them. It was very good and very filling....that or we were just very hungry...lol. But to this day use them for a pork chop casserole.
I think these are great ideas even for people on a limited budget. There are some many people that still go without . These ideas would be great for people with several children to feed and at not cost much. Keep up the great humanitarian work you and your family do. I give whenever I can on my limited budget. Net year I am turning my garden into a helping garden for the food pantry in our town. I am limiting my planting to tomatoes, peppers, green beans and cucumbers so I can grow a lot more of these items to use for ourselves and give as much as possible to the pantry. I am excited to see rows and rows of these veggies growing and taking boxes and boxes to the pantry. Have a great day.
I love the idea of a "to go tote" with meal ideas. I never thought of having a tote of meals. I have a pantry of food for whatever but what if we needed to "go". This is a great idea. Thank you!
cream of mushroom soup, minute rice, some canned veggies and canned chicken. All in one pot cooking. I have researched WW2 and depression era recipes to stretch the budget out more and make do with what I have. Hormel makes a canned roast beef with gravy that is awesome over egg noodles and I can get 3-4 servings out of one can with noodles, possibly more when stretched with veggies.
This is a great idea to have meal ingredients ready like that! Also, it's important to have a manual can opener for times when there's no electricity. Not everybody has one.
Hi Mindy, I loved this video. You have great ideas! One suggestion would be to date the meal packs…..use the oldest dated meal packs first. My husband and I grew up and live in Central and Coastal North Carolina….hurricanes! We are all to familiar with power outages so we have always planned for that possibly. Having a wall which depends on power, we have 3 weeks of water storage, a grill with 2 full gas tanks and a small generator. We are fortunate to have natural gas for stove in a rural community. I understand this may seem extreme for some viewers buts it’s the reality we have lived in our entire lives. Blessings
I love the idea of putting emergency meal packages together for storage, and bless you for donating the proceeds of this video to disaster relief!!! A great shelf-stable protein item is turkey sausages and pepperoni. Aldi sells several different kinds for $3-$5 and the 'use by' dates are always several months out. I love buying the slim turkey sausages and slicing them up in pasta salads, but they'd also be wonderful in that jumbalaya dish!
This is great! I was just telling my daughter yesterday about your first video. We live in far North Idaho so this is an every day thing in the winter it seems, lol! But my husband and I were having a conversation about what happens when moms get sick and husbands don’t know how to cook… I think this is also a great idea for that specific purpose or just once in a while when mom needs a break and husband wants to help out. Thank you so much for doing these videos Mindy, we all appreciate it so much and we love your heart for others!💗
I buy the Jambalaya rice often and add a can of corn that has tomatoes and okra with a can of black beans and fire roasted tomatoes. This makes a lot of servings. This can be served with canned Mackerel on the side.
@@Smooshes786 I eat it as is like I eat tuna. When I was young my Dad would mash it up add 1 egg and crushed saltine crackers mix it up and make fish patties then fry them. Now whenever I see Mackerel it brings back memories of my Dad.
When I was driving my son to college (in another town)😉 I used a pouch of microwavable (sp?), a can of the tomato/okra/corn, and a drained can of black beans, for a great vegan/vegetarian meal for two. Canned ham would have worked in it too! I didn't even have to warm this, it was good by itself.
Hey Mindy, you do a really great job in taking current events and applying them to your videos. I like how so many of your videos start with a message about food insecurity and possible ways to solve those problems. Plus all of your recipes that I have tried are really good too!
Mindy, thank you for the ideas. I live in North Queensland, Australia in cyclone territory. These “meals” would definitely do the job of filling bellies when you only have access to a camp gas burner. We have just started spring here, but summer will be here soon, so your timing is perfect. Blessings to you & your family for being so generous to others….what wonderful stewards you are 🙏🏻🥰
As a mom of a college student I love these ideas. My son is a full time student and also works an almost full time job with UPS and so when he gets home late he needs quick ideas for dinner. Most of these are quick meals. Adding some of this stuff to his Christmas gifts this year (he's getting a nice set of pots and pans). He enjoys cooking so that's not a big deal to him. And can I just say you changed my life with the recipe for grown up spaghetti o's. I know the canned ones are horrible for you, but they are a comfort food for me and knowing I can make it myself very easy changed my life!!!
Your presentation methods are always easy to watch and follow along, soothing almost. I have difficulty creating recipes on my own so your suggestions spark ideas and are so very welcome! We will be adding these to our hurricane boxes!
Just love the way you make your own emergency meal kits. In Nebraska we are already noticing fall weather... predictions for a long hard winter. I'm going to pick up some large bags and shop my pantry for meals to put together. This will help during the panic of no electricity.
I do boondocking which is a problem for refrigerating food. These are great suggestions for me. It prolongs the time between the grocery store. I am 45 minutes away from a Dollar type store so I do it using SaveMart or Walmart especially when items are on sale. Thanks so very much. I appreciate your donation to Salvation Army for the disaster relief.
I watch your videos and this one is great. So much going on these days, food storage always makes sense. I love the idea of going through and assembling all the ingredients for a recipe in one bag. I'm going to through all my stuff and do the same thing. That's much more convenient than looking and searching and trying to think of something on the spot.
This is so relevant to what's going on right now! I feel so BLESSED that I live somewhere where I don't have to worry about hurricanes! What a great way to prep for disaster kits!
We are on the Gulf Coast so we keep an eye on storms. So thankful we missed Ida, but our thoughts and prayers are with them. We have a gas stove so these will be helpful!
One thing to consider is adding the expiration dates of the individual items on the outer ziplock so that things are kept fresh and usable, I try to rotate my stock so that everything gets used up before it goes bad.
I think I'm going to try your pasta tonight with a twist...I'm roasting garden veggies as we speak (mostly tomatoes) going to let it cook down all afternoon...but going to try and let the pasta cook in the sauce, and add se heavy cream and parm cheese to the mix
Thank you for giving to The Salvation Army! I work as a Program Cook for Salvation Army. I cook breakfast and lunch at the Hospitality House Shelter in Tucson AZ. I/we appreciate your help!! Love your videos
Wonderful that you tithe/donate your proceeds from this channel to charity! Thank you for sharing that information with us. It's a good reminder to me to be generous.
I really enjoy your budget videos. Some of the things you purchased are cheaper at grocery stores too. But you gave good ideas for people to work with. Thank you for your generous donation to people in need !
Thank you Mindy, I have been working on this myself but have the added problem of only being one person and am figuring out how to make these single serving. I meal per bag so there are no leftovers and then doing enough food in the bag for one whole day.
If by chance you have room in a freezer you can keep ice blocks in it and a large cooler. When you lose power for extended time you can quickly move some perishables in there and then KEEP YOUR FRIDGE AND FREEZER CLOSED. This will keep your leftovers cold for a while too. Thanks for these great ideas!
I love this series, thank you! My boyfriend goes on hiking and camping trips each year with friends where they often hike 5-10 miles to their campsite and these recipes will be great for them! And quite a step up from eating just chili for days!
Absolutely love this kind of vlog, very beneficial with the fires hurricanes going on now days. We went through this in the North ridge earth quake in L.A. We were without power for over a week. We used the freezer stuff first then our earth quake food. Please incorporate this kind of vlog often. Thank you ❤ Also what goes into a eath quake box . If you need ideas I have plenty of suggestions 😂
After hurricane Katrina we lived on canned black beans and tomatoes mixed together and tuna fish out of the can. We always keep a lot of canned beans during hurricane season!
I love 💕 the idea of putting all the ingredients in a zip lock bags. I have not thought about doing that before. I love 💕 that you went to DT and showed what to buy and how to make the items. I enjoyed this video.
This is good for earthquake kits! We have a camping BBQ that uses those cans to heat up so we can warm up canned and boxed items. Harder for us due to allergies/Celiac but soups, beans, canned tuna, etc works and we can make a meal.
So. I love your videos. Your ideas are solid *but* it would be really helpful if you either had a website or in the comments listed the ingredients/directions so I could come back to it later. Or at least putting each thing in front of the camera near the recipe so I can see how many oz the cans are etc. Ex: I can't find canned alfredo sauce like that here, just jarred...so I had to pause and see how many oz that was. I still don't know the size of the can for the tomato sauce in that recipe. These are *so* helpful and awesome to have, but when I am making dinner etc I don't always have time to find the video I am looking for, scroll through to find the right recipe, and then watch it all over again to write down the steps.
Live in Oklahoma. In October 2020, there was an ice storm. We were without power for 9 days. Have a gas stove. We were able to cook and have a little heat. The power outage was so widespread that we couldn't get ice to put in an ice chest for several days.
For the Pancakes, if you could only find the version of mix that needs eggs or milk, you cod use applesauce in place of eggs! I used to use that trick when baking when I was plant based
@@SeeMindyMom Your creative suggestions are great--Like a few others here, I'd love to see a 'no cook' meal plan since our disasters are earthquakes, and with natural gas leaks, open flames aren't safe, so meals would be uncooked, cold meals (and I see that was the same problem others mentioned here too). Could you trouble shoot that scenario for us?
As a family very worried about the consequences of the vaccine mandate, these meals and videos are so helpful. They put my mind at ease that I can make something work no matter our circumstances. Thank you.
I live in North Texas and the ice storm earlier this year was very eye opening - we had ZERO running water for 6 1/2 days and no power for several days, not even what they called rolling power outages. My home is all electric too. So the snow and ice actually gave us water to flush toilets, and we filled up several buckets and a bathtub with fresh water before we lost it completely. I definitely need to put together some meals in case these conditions happen again. It was very scary to not have water at all. Any ideas you have for no water and no power meals would be very appreciated. Thank you for doing this series. I am really learning a lot and love your ideas !
Our home is all electric as well and we have well water so we always fill our bathtubs with water as well if we know there is a storm coming. For water we use a service called diamond springs. We have a water cooler and then diamond springs brings us once a month the amount of 5 gallon bottles that we need. We will then always have water. My mom started getting this service after we had that huge ice storm here in Virginia when I was a teenager.
If I remember correctly, FEMA recommends storing water in the amount of two gallons per person per day, for at least two weeks. So that would be 28 gallons per person. Even if we don't need it for preparing meals, we always need to have water for drinking, washing, etc.
This hits home. I live in Oregon where we got hit with a massive ice storm in February lost power for days (luckily we have a generator and plenty of fuel) then we got hit with a massive heat wave I think in June hit 118. So this is so helpful. Both are really rare for our area.
Another thing... keep an eye on the expiration dates. We hope we never have to use our emergency preps, but we also don't want to waste. We'll want to make sure we pull items out and use or donate them before they "expire".
This is something we think about with our hurricane seasons in FL. It's smart to rotate and re-create your emergency boxes when the season is over to avoid expired foods.
Love this series and your generosity! The ideas are wonderful. Will be using these to put meal kits together for our monthly church food donations and for our own hurricane preparedness. I live in Florida...Hurricane central! Blessing to you and yours and thank you.
Thanks for donating. You’re a good woman!! (I always try to watch to the end of the video and engage in the comments somehow. I’ve heard that helps the video)
We just had a tornado hit out town and we lost power for 24 hours. Luckily we have a gas stove and we're able to make some oatmeal and canned soup! This video is great!
Awesome 👍 I donate food to food banks too. After losing my job almost 3 years ago, it’s a cause very close to my heart. (I have a job now, it’s just easy to forget how close you are to the bottom of life sometimes) and it serves to remind me 🙂

Love the idea of storing all the recipe ingredients in on bag, ideal for donating and for keeping for emergencies.
My kids really like the red sauce and white sauce mixed together with pasta.
We love the dollar tree jambalaya rice box! We normally add Kalbasa sausage and chicken to it, but for an emergency meal I bet can chicken works too.
I don't remember from Dollar Tree, but Aldi has shelf-stable chorizo in the canned meat/baking goods/soups aisle.
You could also give them in blessing boxes for people in need.
The way she makes so many helpful videos and donates the revenue is so amazing. Go Mindy!!
We live in MI and lose power frequently. In summer when we do this we stash the cooler in the root cellar. In winter we put it in the snow bank
I love this series, thank you! My boyfriend goes on hiking and camping trips each year with friends where they often hike 5-10 miles to their campsite and these recipes will be great for them! And quite a step up from eating just chili for days!
It is very nice of you to help with disaster relief.
Thank you very much Mindy...I could watch you all day!!
I really appreciate that you not only give ideas, but you actually cook them! It just proves that you actually eat these ideas and I think it’s great!
Great looking meals that I think I will be putting in my emergency box. Thank you Mindy
How wonderful and thoughtful of you and your husband to donate to the salvation Army disaster relief. Awesome video.
Love this series... More? Yes please!
I love 💕 the idea of putting all the ingredients in a zip lock bags. I have not thought about doing that before. I love 💕 that you went to DT and showed what to buy and how to make the items. I enjoyed this video.
Thank you for posting ♥️
Potato soup from a box of au gratin potatoes. Hmm... I love how you are able to think outside of the box.
@Melissa Peltier it was intended a little. 😉
@Melissa Peltier Mindy is so creative with items we tend to think only one way with... it's one of the many reasons I watch.
Love your ideas and suggestions! Thank you.
Love that. We remember hurricane Harvey too well not that long ago
Love your ideas! Thank you for giving!
This is good for earthquake kits! We have a camping BBQ that uses those cans to heat up so we can warm up canned and boxed items. Harder for us due to allergies/Celiac but soups, beans, canned tuna, etc works and we can make a meal.
Great idea!
We have allergies and celiac too. We figured out that amazon has a couple small companies that sell gf and df soup mixes.
We add a can of Rotel to the jambalaya mix. I have also added Spam diced up.
We homeschool and that pasta idea is a Great one for lunches! Fast, easy and not a sammie!!!
For the Pancakes, if you could only find the version of mix that needs eggs or milk, you cod use applesauce in place of eggs! I used to use that trick when baking when I was plant based
Thanks, many creative ideas here.
when i need to get the rest of the sauce out of can or jar i use a rubber spatula because i dont like the added water.
Loving these videos they are helpful for many situations of life. Thanks for all you do
Thanks, Karla, glad you like them!
Wonderful ideas thanks for sharing
Love these ideas! Thank you.
As a family very worried about the consequences of the vaccine mandate, these meals and videos are so helpful. They put my mind at ease that I can make something work no matter our circumstances. Thank you.
I love your meal ideas. You have helped me get thru some days where I didn't know what to cook and I only had canned foods to use thank you so much
As if I couldn't like you more!! You're awesome and your channel is so much fun, thank you for sharing
I'm in Florida and I'm watching Hurricane Sam right now. This couldn't have come at a better time.
@@rebekahseay472 great idea ! Thank you !
@@lisaharr1477 Your very welcome. ☺️☺️
@@rebekahseay472 😃
If I remember correctly, FEMA recommends storing water in the amount of two gallons per person per day, for at least two weeks. So that would be 28 gallons per person. Even if we don't need it for preparing meals, we always need to have water for drinking, washing, etc.
Thank you very much.
Great ideas! Thanks. Love watching.
So glad! Thank you!
Excellent idea for a video - thank you!
God bless you for your beautiful heart. There are so many families out there that are in need.
This hits home. I live in Oregon where we got hit with a massive ice storm in February lost power for days (luckily we have a generator and plenty of fuel) then we got hit with a massive heat wave I think in June hit 118. So this is so helpful. Both are really rare for our area.
Amanda, we got an ice storm in February, too. Tornado season pretty calm for us this year, so I was grateful.
Thank you for all that you share with us and the world. You are an amazing person!
Thank you for the kind words. We're no better than anybody else, just trying to do the best we can. :)
Those are wonderful ideas. Nice to see Dollar Tree used since sometimes in certain areas it is the only easily accessible store.
I loved this video. Thank you for the great ideas.
Every time I watch you I am amazed how creative you are with your meals. I love one pot meals, so these ideas will be great for me and my husband.
Thanks, Haley. I'm pretty particular about using things up and minimizing waste, so I'm aware. :)
Love this series and your generosity! The ideas are wonderful. Will be using these to put meal kits together for our monthly church food donations and for our own hurricane preparedness. I live in Florida...Hurricane central! Blessing to you and yours and thank you.
That is so nice of you donating your proceeds from this channel to the relief fund. Great video.
Thank you. Those meals will help my budget and help for winter planning
Fantastic ideas which I can build on to suit our lifestyle
Love you! Thanks for the great ideas and your kind, giving spirit. We could all use more of that these days! 😁
Thanks for donating. You’re a good woman!! (I always try to watch to the end of the video and engage in the comments somehow. I’ve heard that helps the video)
It does help, thank you, Suzanne!
Anther awesome video! I love these ones because I always struggle with meal planning from dry pantry items, thanks for posting another one! ❤️
That’s so great that you give back from your channel!!!
Very good ideas, thank you for what you do.
Great suggestions for meals...and Thank You for donating to these causes.
We just had a tornado hit out town and we lost power for 24 hours. Luckily we have a gas stove and we're able to make some oatmeal and canned soup! This video is great!
Oh gosh, that’s so scary and I’m sorry to hear that. I lived through a bad tornado when I was 16. Hope you guys are safe and well!
@@SeeMindyMom Thank you so much!! Thankfully we were all okay!!
