Drove a 2023 Hyundai Tucson Plug In (Limited) for many months and traded for 2024 Rav4 Prime. Hyundai was far too dependent on the gas engine and didn't know what combo of powertrain it wanted to use when you stepped on gas. Was very clunky with the EV gear shifts and mpgs really suffered in cold weather. Rav4 better in basically every way. Powertrain way smoother. Vehicle WAY faster. Engine doesn't come on when you don't want it to. Getting about 10 mpgs better on average with Rav (63 mpgs over 8,000 miles of 50/50 city/hwy driving). Also paid slightly less for Rav4 than the Hyundai and got the absolutely loaded version with Premium Package. Only way Hyundai is better I would say is their AWD setup is better with a mechanical connex between axles and infotainment is slightly easier to use (but took about 4 months for me to get the car connected to my Hyundai Bluelink account and customer service was rough there also). Hyundai drivers seat leather was coming off the foam after just a few months of ownership. 22:45 I think car journalists (not just you) get this very wrong. You also hear journalists say stuff like "SUV buyers don't care for how it drives..." etc. _People do care!!!_ We care if a car drives well, if it feels like a traditional automatic vs. CVT, how the steering feels, how it handles bumps mid-corner, etc. Why would people stop caring for an SUV? Remember that the only reason most people buy SUV's is because they're forced to. I.e. they had kids and while the Accord is big, it doesn't have room for a large stroller + Costco run groceries in the trunk and it doesn't have AWD. Their only option is a CR-V because Honda killed the Accord Crosstour. Car seats are also way bigger today than they used to be, so back seats need even more room. Nowadays most people don't have money for two cars either, so the "fun weekend car" is dead too. People just can't afford to get a crappy daily SUV and also own (and insure) a fun sports car for weekends only. People who care about driving have to get an SUV that does everything _AND_ drives well. The same goes for hybrids too. Why the hell can't we have fun-to-drive hybrids? Why can't someone who enjoys driving also care about fuel efficiency, global warming, and saving money on gas? Saying that "hybrid buyers don't care how a car drives" is lazy, decades-old thinking. That may have been true of the first generation Prius, but not anymore. In fact, that statement just gives a pass for auto makers to make boring, terrible hybrids. TL;DR: someone who cares about driving dynamics is forced to buy an SUV because family wagons are dead, but they still care how it drives! Saying "SUV/hybrid buyers don't care about [whatever]" is just lazy journalism.
Its a generalization bub. You care, but you and I are the only two. Again a generalization, but a cumbersome way to communication when you have to stops and say "in my opinion", after every proclamation. Whose else would it be?
I tell you manufacturers just can’t win with testers. Give them a 6 speed transmission and they want a CVT. Give them a CVT and they complain how terrible it is!!
Great review. I recently purchased that exact vehicle and absolutely love it. It has every imaginable feature I need/want except it's missing a sunglasses holder and a digital rear view mirror. I find it's extremely quiet and smooth. It's often difficult to tell the difference between the EV and ICE motor, and the transitions are very smooth. Personally I like the fact that it's a traditional transmission - it works perfectly, without the droning/endless revving of a CVT.
Hyundai showcases its strategic acumen by effectively utilizing extensive databases and customer feedback to cater to consumer preferences, which is a key reason for their decision to avoid CVTs. Additionally, it is impressive that Hyundai has adjusted its pricing to be competitive, as they were previously positioned about 5-10% lower than rivals while delivering superior technology and features within their segment.
I’ve had this vehicle for a few years. With the turbo lag, it can be minimized by choosing Sport Mode or the Smart mode in the original design. Eco mode accentuates turbo lag in my experience. It also helps to know some basics about turbo engines. Just don’t try to punch it on a cold engine. If I’m preparing to pass or gun it from a stop I make sure I’m in the right mode.
I bought one last year. Mileage greatly improves when you use less a/c and drive carefully I easily get 37 without running a lot of a/c. This is a much better design and interior then CRV (I’ve had 2). It’s QUIET and I had a Murano with CVT and disagree with you: the peppiness of the hybrid and 6spd are worth a couple of MPG. Totally happy with my choice not an ounce of trouble either.
One big thing to consider when buying a hybrid if there's also a PHEV option of the same model. If the vehicle and you both qualify for any Federal or State tax credits, the PHEV could cost significantly less than the "regular" hybrid after you get the tax credit refunded. We bought a 22' Tucson Limited PHEV when it was new, and it cost a few thousand less than the regular hybrid was (at the time). You also get the benefit of driving around town in EV mode while not using any gas (you HAVE to charge it as needed though - which is no big deal with the included 110V charger). When you need to go longer distances, it then operates as a normal hybrid. So far, we've been VERY impressed with the Tucson and it's PHEV system. I'd buy another one tomorrow if I needed to...
I was really hoping this would still be the case, but it seems like with the stricter battery manufacturing rules, the 2025 Tucson PHEV doesn't qualify for the tax credits 😢 Unless someone knows otherwise?
Among all the things I loved about the Tucson, the rear lights were the design element that really drew me in. So much that I determined that they had to be a part of my life. I never get tired of looking at them. 😆😆😆😆
All down to personal choice but I'm loving my 2025 Hyundai Tucson Hybrid Ultimate. Heads up display is pretty awesome as is the reclining heated rear seats , such luxury. New auto column gearchange a game changer and love the drivers seat dropping when door opens for easier access and the memory when entering putting you right back where you need to be. Is there anything I don't like ? Lane assist for someone with a long driving history seems pretty intrusive and annoying having to deselect every time you start , other than that this motor gets a massive thumbs up 😁
CVTs have a ton of moving parts, and are notorious for shitting themselves. It's not just Nissan either. Even the Honda CVTs tend to be alot more unreliable then standard transmissions and require alot more babying.
@@namtran512you simply do a few more transmission flushes other than that it's a normal transmission and smoother and gear step transmission but keep living in ignorance
I’m considering a Tucson hybrid as my next vehicle and I’d say I prefer the conventional automatic transmission… the MPG increase is good enough for me over the ICE.
Great review! One minor mistake: the Tucson Hybrid Limited comes with HDA, not the more advanced HDA2. Thanks for measuring the 0-60 time; it's even faster than the 2024 MY. Loving all the physical buttons!
I've had my '25 hybrid for a month with 1500 miles and am pleasantly surprised how refined it is - sorry Sofyan they made this car better by using a traditional transmission. The self driving is really good! The seats warmers could be better is the only knock I have 😊.
NO to the CVT/eCVT. I have nothing against these type of transmission, but you can't fully control them in manual mode. Let Hyundai be themselves and not another Toyota. If I want a Toyota, I will get one.
There are main 2 reasons people are still buying a RAV4. 1) Because they didn’t they didn’t test drive anything else. 2) Because they think Toyota is still a stand out brand of dependability.
@ I completely agree. There is no comparison between the Tucson against the CRV and RAV4 , which feel and look like budget vehicles in the interior. The RAV4 being bottom of the barrel there. The legacy of reliability is over too, but even if it weren’t - why would anyone want a vehicle for a decade or more that is already out of date, and poorly appointed with a cheap fit and finish?
A lot to think about. 😮Thanks for the comparisons with Honda, Mazda and Toyota hybrids. What about paddle shifters or regenerative braking? I like how 2 of the DLRs now turn to amber for turning! Thanks.
Love my 2022 Limited Hybrid. Just over 40,000 miles at this point with zero issues. Only complaints are the extensive piano black plastic interior trim which is a fingerprint magnet, and the all touch HVAC and infotainment controls. Oh, and the lane centering never seems to keep the car actually centered, just between the lines. Other than that, it’s been a fantastic daily driver and a great looking vehicle.
@ If you want to get technical about it, it's actually "Lane Following Assist" in Hyundai parlance. Regardless, the point is that it does not work as well at centering the vehicle between the painted lines as do some other systems.
Cvts suck. The 6 speed is much better. As someone that owns this vehicle, Cvts get annoying fast. You never notice the transmission in this. Soyfan always looks at cars through a sport lens instead of what the vehicle is designed for. The Tuscon drives perfectly fine. It's comfortable, quiet and quick enough for it's size. It also gets between 38 and 40mpg without trying.
@@PJZIGnever hurt to have the turn signals on higher position, if they can make them on higher position, why lower? (Yes, they can, so why lower?) Also, it makes them ugly on the lower portion. If someone hits them, you will have to replace turn signals.(being lower on the bumper makes other cars easier to hit them).
@@blackwhirlwind1245 Exactly, friend of mine was in a minor fender bender when the Tuscon just came out but was still driveable. Problem was the Tuscon being a fresh redesign and the body shop had to wait two months to get a new tailgate for her. I remember driving behind her the right rear turn signal and reverse light was bashed in so it didn’t work until she took it in for repair.
Excellent review but want to know if, like so many other Hybrids, not having a spare tire troubles you as it does mt. I don't think the tire inflation kit that comes with the car is an adequate substitute for a spare tire. Thanks!!!!!!!
Greetings from southern Ontario Canada I really enjoyed the video here the 2025 hyundai tucson hybrid comes only in the ultimate trim but I get it with the Americans 😮
I'm surprised you mentioned it has a power-folding mirror because I went to configure it and it was never mentioned as a feature on the Hyundai website. Missed opportunity for Hyundai. The new Kia Sportage hybrid comes with the power fold mirror on higher trims as unveiled at the LA auto show.
These are some nice updates for sure. However, I cannot stand the bumper mounted turn signals and reverse lamps. I am surprised that they did not change that design flaw with this refresh. Oh well.
I just got my 2025 Tucson ultimate PHEV 2 weeks ago. There is lot of WIND NOISE above 90 kmph speed and aerodynamics sucks. Fuel economy is also down side.. 9L/100km. Any suggestions on Wind noise ? It's really annoying me.
The Tucson is an amazing vehicle, and it’s a nice feeling to step out of your house everyday and get into an SUV you love. It’s not cheap, but certainly on the lower end of the price range in comparison to the competition. And of course, much better appointed.
The camera mounted to the sunroof seems to have a strange distortion that makes everything looks weirdly wide including the steering wheel while driving.
I just bought this exact car. I love the car, except for the smart lifgate, filling gas, door locks. Lift gate the car has to be locked, wait 15 seconds, then stand from 20 to 40 inches to get stuff out. If you want to press the inside button you have to hold it all the way up. Also no way to close it hands free! Stupid. Also I can't open the door, press the lock button from the inside and lock the car and leave. The rear doors, even if the doors are locked, can be opened by a passenger. Make sure if you have kids to use the child lock, which they make it's hard to find. And you can't fill the gas tank with the doors locked
Hyundai finally got it right and put the logo on the grill not the hood. The wheels are too busy in comparison to the grill (still busy, but not a polarizing). But to be fair, most carmakers suffer from a loss in styling when it comes to wheel design. The interior is just plain bland, but again, that's true will all the manufactures that have cars in this market.
NEVER EVER buy a Hyundai product or else you will be LEFT FOR DEAD just like me. I bought a brand new Santa Fe Hybrid Luxury in 2023 and my experience so far has been a nightmare to say the least. The vehicle has major safety issues (e.g.: vehicle failing to slow down/ stop on cruise control), providing photo & video evidence to prove the issue was not enough for Hyundai Canada to take immediate action and instead I have been left to battle this by sending it for a million diagnostics tests. Finally, I had no option but to take them to court. The judgement is coming soon but it is shocking that a manufacturer (& Transport Canada) would allow this to happen. This could have easily become a criminal case if an accident would have occurred and then I would have been blamed for it when it is truly a technical snag. If you buy their product, your safety and that of the public will be at risk and Hyundai would only be silent spectators! SHAME ON HYUNDAI FOR PUTTING THE PUBLIC & CUSTOMERS AT RISK ONLY TO MAKE $$$, ABSOLUTELY DISGRACEFUL!!
Understand that the Brake-Override safety system will often negate your 1970's style Brake-Torquing. These aren't classic muscle cars. Would have liked a lot more information on the Bose sound system. Otherwise, very good review.
Sure! Hyundai hybrids are designed to give you great fuel economy, which means you can save money on gas. They usually have a mix of a gas engine and an electric motor, so they can switch between the two for better efficiency. Plus, many models come with cool tech features like advanced safety systems and infotainment options.
It's a good vehicle... But there's way too much going on with the exterior design. Creases, bulges, flares, big chrome accents, crazy wheels... It's weird.
Many will disagree with you - Hybrid or not, plenty of people can't stand CVT's. I'm one of them. Conventional trans with a locking center diff in an suv, in a snowy northern climate - no CVT EVER!

Hyundai/Kia had bad reputations back in the day hence a lot of mechanics having negative opinions about the brands but I think most would agree that a lot has improved since those days
If you're planning to keep for long time or put a lot of miles. Either get the extended warranty or plan for a new vehicle after a few years. Hyundai and Kia does not age well. While they offered great techs and value. Mechanical reliability is still hit or miss.
They are really good and reliable vehicles. Go for it. Their vehicles are now as reliable as any Toyota out there. People are just dogmatic with Japanese brands

Hahaha so danm true
Keep the 6spd auto and the mechanical AWD. I'd choose this over the Rav and CX 50.
Exactly what I did
Great review.
Got mine a week or so ago and I agree that the sunglasses holder is the one thing I miss, but it seems like they thought of about everything else.
Best review I seen for the Tucson!- Great Job!
This is definitely one of the best cuvs.
The front looks even more questionable , but oddly I love the rear. It’s looks pretty cool at nighttime when I see one drive by
Interesting. So some people actually do like the rear design of this car. I just don't get it.. those tail lights are just stupid.
Get over it you don't have to get it ...@@htz70
Among all the things I loved about the Tucson, the rear lights were the design element that really drew me in. So much that I determined that they had to be a part of my life. I never get tired of looking at them. 😆😆😆😆
Love the fact that it is a 6 speed transmission.
Anything's better than the rubber band, CVT.
Lane assist for someone with a long driving history seems pretty intrusive and annoying having to deselect every time you start , other than that this motor gets a massive thumbs up 😁
No sofyan..NO CVT ever.
I couldn’t believe what I was hearing when he said that lol smh
@ there’s no CVT that will be better for ANYTHING.. It’s a hybrid not a race car so just enjoy the MPGs.
CVTs are notoriously unreliable, unless it's an eCVT like Toyota does it.
233,000 miles on my CVT. My secret? Follow the manufacturers recommended maintenance and don't drive it like you stole it.
CVTs have a ton of moving parts, and are notorious for shitting themselves. It's not just Nissan either. Even the Honda CVTs tend to be alot more unreliable then standard transmissions and require alot more babying.
You have no clue what you're talking about
@@namtran512you simply do a few more transmission flushes other than that it's a normal transmission and smoother and gear step transmission but keep living in ignorance
Nope, they're fine when properly applied to the right engine.
I’m considering a Tucson hybrid as my next vehicle and I’d say I prefer the conventional automatic transmission… the MPG increase is good enough for me over the ICE.
I need them to ditch that rear turn signal on the bumper. That’s such a pet peeve of mine, can’t stand it 😂
I'm sure Hyundai will immediately redesign the turn signals just to specifically appease you.
@@JulezWinnfield I'm sure they will! Thanks Julie.
@@dateintokyo
I don't think they will.
@@JulezWinnfield That’s fine. I have a Sportage anyways.
Great review! One minor mistake: the Tucson Hybrid Limited comes with HDA, not the more advanced HDA2. Thanks for measuring the 0-60 time; it's even faster than the 2024 MY.
Loving all the physical buttons!
Snagged one of these Tucson Limited Hybrids last week. Nice! PHEV was a lot more money so went with the no plug in option.
Looking forward to the 2025 Tucson PHEV Limited review 😊
Test drove one its amazing
Rear turn signals low in the bumper alone will make me go with the Sportage.
My thoughts exactly
Then go 😂
Brilliant! Don't you worry about!@@dontworryaboutwhoiam456
That's definitely a legitimate concern. I wish the Sportage had an HUD, which I've quickly come to love while test driving
@@SapSapient I've read the 26 will have it available.
Less than 4k lbs with true AWD, and 30 MPG. Pick it up One year old for $33k. Great deal.
I've had my '25 hybrid for a month with 1500 miles and am pleasantly surprised how refined it is - sorry Sofyan they made this car better by using a traditional transmission.
The self driving is really good! The seats warmers could be better is the only knock I have 😊.
Toyota might have a better hybrid system, but their interiors are so cheap and ugly.
Agreed. I’d rather get a tuscon or Sportage or cx50 or CRV hybrid because they’re not boring
Very plain. But people by them nonetheless.
Agree! The Toyotas are so utilitarian and boring!!
Awesome vehicle and have had mine for 6 months... I am averaging 45 mpg city.
NO to the CVT/eCVT. I have nothing against these type of transmission, but you can't fully control them in manual mode. Let Hyundai be themselves and not another Toyota. If I want a Toyota, I will get one.
Rav4 is way to loud and a primative vehicle
It does what it does well, and out sells all the rest. That's your proof he can say what he says.
@@krane15A lot of fleet sales.
There are main 2 reasons people are still buying a RAV4.
1) Because they didn’t they didn’t test drive anything else.
2) Because they think Toyota is still a stand out brand of dependability.
I test drove exact tucson and rav4 xse and crv sport L this car kills both of them crv and rav4 way to cheap and loud inside
I would definitely trade in my 2023 Jeep Compass for this
A lot to think about.
It’s not called lane centering, it’s LANE FOLLOWING.
@ If you want to get technical about it, it's actually "Lane Following Assist" in Hyundai parlance. Regardless, the point is that it does not work as well at centering the vehicle between the painted lines as do some other systems.
We have an SEL Convenience and my one bone to pick is that the key feels super light and cheap. Otherwise it’s a great car
I don’t know why Hyundai makes their key fobs so large. I agree, they do feel cheap.
Nobody wants turn signals buried in the bottom of the rear bumper. This design is so bad. Get rid of it!
Only for people that tailgate
The turn signals also blink on the side mirrors and I find that helps a ton.
Nobody uses them anyway 😅😂
Excellent review but want to know if, like so many other Hybrids, not having a spare tire troubles you as it does mt. I don't think the tire inflation kit that comes with the car is an adequate substitute for a spare tire. Thanks!!!!!!!
Greetings from southern Ontario Canada I really enjoyed the video here the 2025 hyundai tucson hybrid comes only in the ultimate trim but I get it with the Americans 😮
The USA LIMITED is the same level as the Canadian Ultimate.
They keep the 6-speed transmission because they want reliability.
I'm surprised you mentioned it has a power-folding mirror because I went to configure it and it was never mentioned as a feature on the Hyundai website. Missed opportunity for Hyundai. The new Kia Sportage hybrid comes with the power fold mirror on higher trims as unveiled at the LA auto show.
wish they put this hybrid in the santa fe
These are some nice updates for sure. However, I cannot stand the bumper mounted turn signals and reverse lamps. I am surprised that they did not change that design flaw with this refresh. Oh well.
Sofyan, absolutely NO to a CVT, honestly can't believe you said that
Placement of the rear turn signal lights is completely wrong for safety visual reasons.
Yes, Hyundai has a habit of that. Turn lights always at the top...always! Some things just need to be left alone.
But really, is it worth $42,000? Wow
Yes
A bargain compared to the RAV4 PHEV which is 50k.
For the features you get, yes!
The Tucson is an amazing vehicle, and it’s a nice feeling to step out of your house everyday and get into an SUV you love. It’s not cheap, but certainly on the lower end of the price range in comparison to the competition. And of course, much better appointed.
What can you get for $42k ?? A crv sport L or rav4 xse this car kills both of them
The camera mounted to the sunroof seems to have a strange distortion that makes everything looks weirdly wide including the steering wheel while driving.
So, is Hyundai a more luxury brand than BMW?
The Tucson was never a subcompact. It has always been a compact class car.
CVT drone is the most annoying sound.
Turn the radio up
Only 35 mpg? I feel like I’ve seen better MPG on other competitors hybrids
Signal lights should be higher.
Signal lights should always be higher. Fixed.
nice review, Have the car, like it very much BUT the sidemirrors ARE NOT POWER FOLDING< BUMMER! Like the interior better than my x3 that I sold
I belive torque is 258, santa fe has 271. Hp us same for both these models for hybrid
Sofyan No More CVT American people don't want that so that transmission , getting out from markets!!!
Which explains the RAV4 and CRV being among The best selling cars in Americana? What does that tell you? Does that say people don't like it?
Sure! Hyundai hybrids are designed to give you great fuel economy, which means you can save money on gas. They usually have a mix of a gas engine and an electric motor, so they can switch between the two for better efficiency. Plus, many models come with cool tech features like advanced safety systems and infotainment options.
Tucson is not a subcompact, its compact, and almost mid size in US market. The European version is smaller and compact size
It depends on your respective. Most cars in this segment straddle the line. VW has a smaller Taos to its compact Tiguan, but Toyota does not.
It's a good vehicle...
But there's way too much going on with the exterior design.
Creases, bulges, flares, big chrome accents, crazy wheels... It's weird.
That’s why it’s so great 👍
What you call it, better start is simply that totyita put another pulley on the CVT is still a bad transmission and has no reability

Many will disagree with you - Hybrid or not, plenty of people can't stand CVT's. I'm one of them. Conventional trans with a locking center diff in an suv, in a snowy northern climate - no CVT EVER!

As someone who seen many of these in the dealership for an array of issues I stay far from it
Horrendous fit and finish on the back of the rear seats. Piano black interior trim is unfortunate.
When you at the top trim that needs to be fixed. Poor quality control where that managed to get out to the market.
Someone tell me their experience with recent Hyundai/Kia cars! My mechanic is vehemently against me getting one, but none of the competitors in this segment is doing it for me OR I don't have the budget for it (one day, Lexus, one day LOL)
My sister has had 2. My other sister traded her X3 in for exactly this one. My mom has a Santa Fe. I'm about to get a GV80 Coupe. They are all great!!
don’t do it
They are really good and reliable vehicles. Go for it. Their vehicles are now as reliable as any Toyota out there. People are just dogmatic with Japanese brands
The only thing that doesn't make sense is $45k for a cheapest compact hybrid SUV on the road
1.6L engine, hell no
I don't like the h in the rear window
I like the pre refresh inside much better. It was cohesive and unique. The new one is generic
I agree 100%. It was a beautiful design due to the exact reasons you mention. This new interior is more utilitarian and functional. But the former interior was more striking with a more premium look.
Nothing sophisticated about it unless you think TGI Fridays is sophisticated

Yeah, it’s the newest fad infiltrating many manufacturers. At least it’s better than the IPad stuck to the center of the dashboard look that never should have happened.
