PS5 True 5.1 with Logitech Z906 Solved | NO More Audio Lag

  • The PS5 doesn't have an optical out port, and if you use Bitstream through your tv to make it work, you get some pretty significant audio latency. This fixes that using an HDMI to analog converter. you get true 5.1 sound, with no latency. I'm using the Logitech Z906, but this will work with any system that uses 6 channel audio (3x 3.5mm jacks).
Here’s an Amazon link to the one in the video.

I have been reading and learning all about true 5.1 now. For about 4 days straight. By running a simple hdmi arc 5.1 dolby digital extractor, that costs $38 and using an optical cable from the audio system to the extractor and plugging hdmi from extractor to tv arc port I got full 5.1 native surround mix working. No decoding issues and very obvious difference in audio quality and directional audio. Bass response if way finer and more tuned at the dolby digital setting, and I honestly feel bad for the 5.1 stereo matrix users 😂
How to fix True 5.1 Surround:
    • Multichannel (Bypass) on TV
    • Dolby or Dolby Atmos on PS5
    • HDMI CEC and eARC or ARC on TV
    • Decode light switched on, on the logitech control panel.
    • “AV Amplifier mode” on PS5 and set to 5.1 and adjusting speaker location.
This all in combination is the only way to get real 5.1 surround on PS5. Any other work around if the decode light is not lit or the PS5 settings do not match these settings the decode could be lit but the sound didnt sound right. So make sure guys you do this correct the first time rather then the last time. Big diffirence in overall Quality and all directional audio being correct.
If you have more then one HDMI ARC port on your TV I recommend you to plug in eARC to “hdmi extractor” and PS5 to HDMI ARC port for VRR / HDR support to still work at 4K 120hz. Without two ARC ports on the TV being used at once you will lose some PS5 functions.

Same position as you. My PS5 connects to my TV and the TV connects by Optical Audio to the speakers. The PS5 is set to DTS and the TV to auto (my choices are either Linear PCM or Auto). On auto, the decode light turns on and I get what sounds to me, like 5.1. My PC connects to the speakers by 6 channel audio from a dedicated sound card so all the lights go out
I don't notice any audio lag. If there is, it's mere milliseconds that I don't pick up on

In the video, I demonstrate how this is inferior, and results in at least half a second of audio latency. I suppose other TVs may have less latency, but the best way is to still get the direct audio from the PS five to whatever speaker system you’re using.

If it’s in bitstream then it’s still compressed audio. Unless you’re running LPCM via a sound card (which handles the signal) then you’re just sending compressed audio to all the speakers - not LPCM which would require 1.) A receiver ….or 2.) A sound card….also the lag is from the extra device you added. Let me put it to you this way - you are sending a direct audio (uncompressed) signal to the speakers, the speakers don’t know what to do with it and they’re running it bitstream instead, which is what Dolby Digital / DTS is which is why you’re locked on bitstream. This is why the manual says it only works via PC sound card, because that is what handles the audio processing.

    • @finaloverclock6469

The upgrade from SDR to HDR should look more impressive than even the upgrade from 1080p to 4k. Some TVs or monitors will claim that they support HDR, and what they mean is that they decode the HDR signal, but the panels aren't actually bright enough to display it properly. If your panel doesn't hit at least 500-600 nits that would explain why you think HDR sucks; you're not actually getting proper HDR.
