Honestly the fact that balatro lets you lose during the tutorial is a sign if not anything else that it's a good game, modern gaming is too afraid to let you fail.
That's the first time I've ever seen something so dumb used as a Cope. Most card games tutorials put you into a forced win situation so you can understand the win conditions. Balatro has a bad tutorial that's it and it has nothing to do with the fact that you can win or lose. A tutorial is there to TEACH you how to play the game, not throw you into a game and let you figure it out. There's a reason tutorials are hated by gamers. They try to teach you how to play games that you already know how to play, while maybe having unique mechanics, so you kinda have to stay there and do stuff that you already know and some stuff that you don't know, so it's boring and you might skip the stuff you don't know etc ... That's why I think you should have tutorials divided in 3 parts, like fighting games, and you can skip the first 2 parts. Balatro just has a bad tutorial because you should know how to play poker to play the game. I
@@kato093 Your comment sums up to 2 points. 1. it has a bad tutorial because it lets you lose. (Even though you claim it doesn't because the only thing you really say is it should have forced you to play a few good hands to know what good hands look like) 2. You should already know how to play poker before starting. These 2 things can't possibly both be true. How about the game expects you to know and it doesn't believe it's the games job to teach you the basics of poker other than new mechanics like the joker card and how discarding and playing cards works. If you choose to fuck up that's on you. the game didn't call you an idiot for not knowing how to play the game.
@kato093 He lost because he doesn't know what poker hands are. Balatro's tutorial would be extremely long if it had to teach you what all the poker hands are.
@@mesaplayer9636 I agree and in general i think there should be 0 tutorials for the record, however if there is gonna be a tutorial i'd like it to let you lose if you fuck up rather than holding ur hand to victory.

A Bald man walks into a casino, slaps a bunch of illegal cards on the table while holding 5 glowing joker cards. The dealer gives him 5 million chips, he cashes them out for 7$ and leaves.
I thought that it must be it's a 75% chance to do nothing / a 25% chance to do something, but if it hits the 25% to do something and then the random Joker it chooses already has a quality applied to it, then it will 'Nope.' But after more than a hundred hours of playtime and watching, I think it's more like a 1 in 6-7 chance, plus failing if it then picks a Joker that already has a quality.

I would've done worst, don't know how you play this game at all
The presentation is SO critical to this game's success I feel....the sauntering spaced out chill synth music....the wobble of UI elements.... the trills and jingles and variety of tones.... it's a bit of masterclass in being greater than the sum of it's parts. Obviously the accessible gameplay, progress and depth of strats is the soul of the game, but ain't no way it does so well with plain presentation.

The game is easy to learn (I never played poker in my life and learned basically every hand type in this game... match card numbers, suits, count up/down) but hard to master..... but one thing that is majorly important besides luck you will get nowhere if you don't read what stuff does.

Unironically the GotY, and it’s not even close. This is a timeless genre-defining masterpiece, and if you’ve played it for more than an hour then you know that.
For those scoffing at Balatro because it’s a card game, get over yourselves and download it. It’ll be one of your favorite modern games. It’s as good as Vampire Survivors or Slay the Spire.
I've played it a lot. It doesn't even come close to GOTY territory. It's not a bad game, but it's really not the big deal people keep pretending it is.

@@TheRedGuy9 it's not poker at all, it just borrows winning hands from it. Nothing else is even close. And Astro Bot was also not even close to GOTY territory. I'm not sure what point you're trying to make?
I
@@kato093
Your comment sums up to 2 points.
1. it has a bad tutorial because it lets you lose. (Even though you claim it doesn't because the only thing you really say is it should have forced you to play a few good hands to know what good hands look like)
@@kato093 This is the first time I've ever seen a reply so dumb as a cope.
I'd prefer there is 0 Tutorial but if there is gonna be one i'd like that it lets you lose, you have to lose or purpose or discard a good hand to lose the tutorial, maybe you like having ur hand held during a tutorial cause you can't match same suites or could count in order A2345678910jqk (things you learn in elementary school) but the rest of us are very capable. tutorials dont need to teach you shit, play the game and learn how to play yourself, there was never tutorials outside of a small handbook that came with games when i was a kid and maybe a button map.
Basically what im saying is you'd be perfect for a job at ign or kotaku since you value tutorials so much and think they teach you anything you can't learn on your own, I wish you luck in your future career.
