I've watched this video several times over the years; it's very entertaining. The full and rich sound of the Hammond with the vibrato on is perfect for most Christmas songs.
My mom played by ear and when I was 7 years old in June of 1959 this strange thing was delivered to our house. It was a C-3 and not many people had an organ of any kind let alone a C-3. I sold it on ebay in 2005 a year after mom died. It went from Wisconsin to a Hammond restorer in Louisiana. He told me he sold it to a church. A fitting place for it as my mom wrote about thirty Christian songs. It was with me most of my life and seeing it go was almost as sad as seeing mom pass on.
Nice medley and well played. The "match folder sleighbell gimmick" is fun. I used to use it on my very own A-100 when I was playing a five nighter back in the late 1960s. I kind of miss playing out but then I remember all the booze, cigarette smoke, noise and hecklers and I am glad that part of my life is past. I might post a video of my olde model A but I have to first see what the person who borrowed it did to the old speakers in the ER-20. They rattle like the cones might be damaged or loose.
That playing takes me back to my old dinner club days. I miss the good times from those days but I sure don't miss the smoke, booze and mostly the occasional jerks. I only have two Hammonds these days. An S6 chord organ and an early model A. I think I owned most of the big Hammond models at one time or another including a G-100. I miss my X-66 and my A-100. Holiday music always sounds so good on a Hammond. I loved how Ken Griffin played it. I enjoyed your playing and thanks for posting. Gary
Great stuff Steve! Nothing beats that fat, real Hammond sound. I love it. It's still magic to me how you guys do it. Most other instruments only require you to focus on one thing when playing them, but organ players have to be able to simultaneously play one thing with one hand, another thing with the other hand, and a bassline with the foot(/feet). All coordinated into one tune. It's the ultimate multi-tasking if you ask me. I think that is friggin' amazing! A thumbs up from me.
My Dad loved to play organ. Our family has a Epic (I think) record of Christmas organ music from the 50's, that I recall hearing from the time I began having memories. For me, organ music is Christmas. I wish NHL hockey venues still had live organ music during play stoppages and between period breaks. Very few do that now.
I loved your performance on the organ; Extremely so beautiful, I am a music teacher and organist, I have my Hammond organ and I really love spending hours playing dead in all types of music. hehehehe. In short, I love musical performance, success!
this video is great you don't have idea how I wish I played this great! this organ sounds makes it even more impressive and expressive. I really wished I could have one of those but even if I did I would't play as you do. Congrats for being so talented and gifted 5 stars regards Serch
Good job Steve. I like the A100. There are some still out there. We use ours as a church organ. Although it has all the features Hammond has. The 935 Digital Organ.
Thanks! My organ teacher from years ago taught me the match folder trick along with a few others. It's a cheesy effect, but still works. Hope to see your Model A someday!
I own one of these fantastic Hammonds. I don't think this one has a Leslie on it from the fact he keeps working with the organs vibrato. Great sounds, I may have to try teaming my A-102 up with my Yamaha keyboard. Who knows what might happen. :D Loved the concert, even in October.
OMG A year since my last comment! Another Christmas has come around and I'm really not in the spirit. This year has took a toll on me including the divorce and cut-backs on the job. I feel wore out after 2014 I really want Christmas to just pass me by. Maybe 2015 would be a better year. Maybe 2015 Christmas I will put up the tree and hang lights on the house like previous years. Please let 2015 be a better year.........Please!!!
Always the best ! And the most glorious sound !!!
Bravo I love to listen to Christmas tunes in August!

110 outside and I'm inside enjoying Christmas tunes on a beautiful old Hammond organ. I have had a T-2 since 1969 and love the Hammond sound.
That was great! Well played and lots of fun to watch. I've got that Christmas spirit now!
Beautiful playing. I can listen to this organ all day.

My God! I can really use that organ in my church! That sounds so heavenly.
It's a video that I love, and makes me very sentimental. Master how nice it listens to what you play, thank you.
