I have never listen to a better soprano/mezzosoprano….Lady Verrett was something spesiell….super singer and actric in opera..Thank You Shirley Verrett. SUPERBO!!!!
...what can be said? Statuesque, beautiful, human, transcendent. Shirley Verrett was truly a gift to us all, her singing is SO emotive it strikes all. I could listen to her sing 24/7, and her speaking voice was just as wonderful.
Outstanding performance. I saw her onstage in New York quite a few times, in both soprano and mezzo roles. All wonderful, but I preferred her singing in the mezzo range.
Superb, she sounds like a wonderful mezzo-soprano to me! Marvellously vital, dramatic performance , but lacks the float on top of a soprano, in my opinion
She has some silvery sounds up there, in reserve and use them in other soprano aria like Desdemona. But its clear that her top will not float like a lyric soprano, like whilelmenia Fernandez or Dorothy Mainor. I feel on the other hand that this tension on some notes is artistically efficient, moving. She is fighting with her fate in the story.
@@bauchmann9971 I take Amneris out of those as a real dramatic mezzo one she excelled in... much earlier. But wasn't she always a mezzo with a great extension towards the high register?
@@DiomedesDioscuro that is not the point-it is a question of tessitura. It makes a difference if you sing-especially with Verdi- the mezzo or the soprano part- She started as a Mezzo, which was good, but then she sang Tosca, Aida and even Mimi! (You can listen to it on you tube)
@@bauchmann9971 I don't have the impression I would like her in the whole of Leonora's role more than others, but I think she's flawless in this performance.

God took His time with this one. Wow
Formidable, superbe, magnifique, elle était mezzo!! et la tout passe facilement merci Madame.
C'était une voix appelée Falcone donc elle pouvait chanter les 2 registres de mezzo et soprano une grande voix bref ! On l'appelait the black Callas !
Beautiful by all means! An acting voice!
Brilliant!!! She was definitely aSoprano.🌸🌸🌸🌹🌹🌹🌺🌺🌺🌷🌷🌷What an Amazing VOICE.
Yet sang the contralto role of Ulrica in Ballo. Now that's versatility!!!
*Falcon, she was equally great in middle-low register
I sang a concert with her around 1985 in Miami (chorus for the opening aria from Norma). She also sang Pace, pace at that concert. Memorable!
OMG … fabulous!! ❤
J' ai toujours autant de plaisir à écouter cette Dame encore merci!!
Brava the great Diva Shirley Verrett ❤
Великолепно...
I love her! What a voice!

A voz dela era poderosíssima.
Действительно, великая. Вот так легко, без напряжения перепеть весь оркестр.
Stupenda❤
😢❤Increíble. Una maravilla
Brava!
too bad the video is out of sync, but it's irrelevant, it's only the audio that counts.

Listen to her Verdi requiem 😊
@@zhamiralamoan9184 I know since I posted in my channel her Verdi RequiemS. In Budapest, Dresden, Milano.
@@foroperashe floated often as adalgesia in norma..but i understand what you are saying.
I agree, she was best as a mezzo. I was disappointed when she switched to soprano. But still magnificent!
Sorry, but I don't like her in those roles-she was great as a dramatic Mezzo!
Dramatic mezzo? Like in which role?
