Interesting, this is a Sony machine, it has S-Video, but does not have 7-pin Dub connector. How would one connect it to a Umatic machine?
I enjoy your videos as I have several different makes of PAL S-VHS - JVC , Panasonic & this Sony. I believe the weak point of these machines is the power supply module that was not designed by Sony? Mine has stopped working. Is there a way to replace the PSU completely with a modern equivalent? Thanks

The PSU degradation is caused by aging capacitors after long time use at high temperature. Not only Sony, all other brands including common VCRs and professional VTRs suffer from this problem, this is inevitable.
It is very difficult to replace the PSU with a modern equivalent. The PSU of SVO-5800 outputs a lot of secondary voltages while modern PSU modules on the market today only give 1 type of voltage, so we have to combine them quite much.
A quick, safe, easy and low cost method is to replace the capacitors in the PSU and we can continue to use the VTR.

@@misu4602 Update: I replaced all the capacitors and had to replace the switching regulator chip as well, all working again. :-)

Hi Костя ! HR-X7 was produced for the Japanese market, so it can only run in NTSC.

Hi VCR_Collector ! Does error appear when system on ? In most VCR , bad dew sensor may cause this problem.
