  • Death Row Kids (2005): From 2005-2010, more juvenile offenders were killed in Texas than in the rest of the world combined. America continues to defend its right to execute children.

    I don't care what age you are, if you commit an adult crime, you need to be ready to pay an adult price. Being sorry AFTER you take someone's life is worth the words. You KNEW what might happen, and you took your chances, and lost....too bad...

    I'm 43 now and I'm not the same person I was at 17/18. I don't think the same way, my behaviour is different. If I could go back I'd do many things differently....I guess you mature as you get older. Now would I have killed someone at aged 18...never!! But I didnt have the same upbringing as these two men. I didnt have the same environment, friends or maybe violent families. I think these two men have really changed there lives, I think their lives should be used to inspire the youth. We sit with the same problem today, even worse. Kids are still killing on the streets. Point is: if you keep doing what you've always done, expect the same result. Is there not a better way with dealing with kids in situasions like these or do we just simply not care enough to bring about great change in the world?

    • @resourcedragon
      @resourcedragon 3 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      The people reading this probably didn't kill anyone back when they were 16 or 17 or 18 but most of us did things when we were on the cusp of adulthood that we wouldn't do as mature adults. (According to the experts, the brain isn't fully mature until about 25.) So, sure, they "know right from wrong" from a young age, but they don't realise that they are going down a path that will lead them into doing something really wrong until it's too late.

    I just searched Oswaldo Soriano on the Texas Department of Criminal Justice and found out that he is not longer on death row... He is now serving a life sentence and is eligible for parole in 2027. As I was watching the video I was praying for him and for the victim's family too. And I know that just like me many people were praying for all of them too. All I know is that when God permits something regardless of how we feel about it, it's because he has a better plan for all of us.

    I know Oswaldo Soriano. He is now on the French Robertson Unit (TDCJ) in Abilene, Texas. Here is a man that does feel remorse, tormented by the death he caused. Sure, it can be argued that Oswaldo did then and there shoot the man. The clerk did try to grab the gun and Oswaldo did squeeze the trigger--twice, actually. It was a spontaneous reaction of uncontrolled nervousness. It doesn't mean that Oswaldo is not guilty. But it does mitigate the offense somewhat. Hindsight is 20/20. If Oswaldo could talk to that lost soul he once was--the drug addict, roaming the streets, the child with no guidance and no father figure, he would advise him of the cause and effects, that taking the gun and pointing it at the clerk, would have. At 17, Oswaldo's life was destroyed for committing an offense and causing the death of an innocent man.

    Wouldn’t it be interesting if we knew the opinions of the direct, deceased victims? I just think it’d be a great study if we could base punishment on the decision of the direct victim, indirect victims (loved ones left behind on either side), and circumstances.
    Obviously this isn’t possible for the most part, but what if we all had to regularly vote on what consequences we’d like to happen for various crimes against ourselves (a default would be set if not done). Plus it might be a jolt of reality to contemplate your own mortality and the consequences of your actions if you chose to commit these crimes.Of course a person’s personal choice wouldn’t be publicly known unless they said it, for obvious reasons. Even with this though:
    when would someone be considered mature/stable enough to vote or make this decision for themself? If we cap fighting in a war or voting for the local mayor at 18, then how can we argue 17 + 16yr olds fully understand the law and deserve the full extent of it? If they fully understand the laws then why can’t they vote on them or have any direct say/effect on them by voting for those law makers, politicians, or even the sheriff?
    Just interested in people’s thoughts. I’ve been cooped up in this bed a lot longer than this recent pandemic, and could use the potential reading.

      Well . . . . . if a young person is intelligent enough to understand right from wrong along with having a full grasp of the consequences of their actions then yes they should face life without parole or the death penalty.
      I also believe that being able to have the dead victims speak on their own behalf would have made criminal court trials more memorable to be sure.

He used the Bible for reference as to why he believes in the death penalty and his States current rules on sentencing of those cases, if he didn’t live in a death penalty state he would still believe in it. You can be butt-hurt all you want everyone has their own beliefs, it doesn’t make it right or wrong, he’s only giving his opinion/beliefs on the matter, just like you.
      BTW the 17 Y/O convicted for killing the store clerk, he believes he shouldn’t be executed because it was accident. It wasn’t an accident he was a willing participant in a robbery, it wasn’t a accident he held the gun. At any point he could’ve said “NO” and walked away. The victims families and loved ones are going to suffer for years and years, but the murderer is going to suffer for only minutes.
    It is also proven to be no deterrent whatsoever to other potential murderers.
    My belief is for a daily torture routine, you know, toes being crushed, cigarette lighters being held against various parts of the bodies, sparklers being inserted in the eye of the penis and then lit, that type of thing.
    I think televising it would send a message and make it much more of a deterrent.
    I am sure this would satisfy all those out there who are against the death penalty who do not believe in taking a life away.
    Those who do believe in the death penalty would be happy there was some degree of vengeance muted out, and that the culprit was suffering just as much as the victims families.

Under the age of 18 they are only children. Not old enough to get a job, smoke, go into any clubs or drink alcohol, so why are they classed old enough to be put on death row ?

      I totally agree with you...they are children and some could be rehabilitated over time...America spends 85billion dollars a year on prisons so the threat of a death sentence obviously doesn't work...more money should be spent on the youths before they get to this stage...education is key to the youngsters and the money should be spent on mentoring these kids when they are in school or at youth clubs..if they do end up in prison educate them teach them a trade so when they are released they can earn a decent wage and maybe stay on the straight and narrow....here in England we abolished the death penalty in the 60s crime is bad especially with the youngsters but again they need to be educated while they are in prison instead of releasing them back on the streets with no formal education and so they go straight back to crime...something really needs to be done to help these kids...

    "Should Kids Be Put On Death Row? " No one should! I can't believe this still happens in the 21st century. A medieval journey, at its worst. It's just ridiculous that people even invoke the bible to justify this atrocity. Humans can be a scary species. My country was pioneer in the process of abolition of capital punishment. No executions have been carried out since 1846. I'm so proud of that!

    • @_QWERTY__
      @_QWERTY__ 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Cece-lb7nc problem is, a lot of times they are put on the row without the proper evidence.The police get "tunnel vision", don't investigate something from every angle, extort confessions because they wrongly think they know everything, and force the facts to fit in some cases. Plus, People executed today were convicted in a time when different lower standards were used to put people to death, also remember, the Jury is who decides what happens, so a biased jury is a garanteed death sentence. All of this has to be challenged. The point of appeals is to try to catch the innocent or improperly convicted, and save them from dying. Do those guilty of the most awful murders abuse it to stay alive for as long as possible? Sure. But there have been MANY exonerations and resentencing as a result of appeals. Also remember, appeals really don't take that long in themselves. An overburdened justice system just takes longer to get to them and hear them.

      Ray in some cases I wholeheartedly agree with you 100%. I was exactly just like you and believed that taking another persons life was committing the same crime of murder. This year my opinion changed drastically when I watched the case of Timothy Jones Jr. who killed his 5 children in cold blood and each child watched the other one die. That to me was the most horrific case I'd ever heard of. Then the Chris Watts murders where he murdered his pregnant wife and two small children. For me child killers are the worst. Someone who would take anyone's life is horrible but to kill an innocent baby or child that changed me and the way I viewed death row. Now as far as child offenders for me I'd have to weigh the circumstances heavily before making a desicion because they are kids themselves but I do know in my heart I could not put them back out into society. I honestly do not know. My heart and soul is conflicted and changed drastically after the trials I've watched the past year. May God always be with you and May God help my conflicted soul💔😥💔😥💔

    My Unpopular Opinion: Nobody should be sentenced as an adult until they turn 25. It's scientifically proven that your brain 🧠 isn't fully grown until you're 25...Sometimes even 26. At 32, I am not the same person I was at 22 & with the life I was living, I could have EASILY ended up in that position. I broke the law & did EXTREMELY stupid things. Infact, I nearly did kill someone 10 or 11 years ago on accident, but I was doing something illegal at the time, so I would have been charged with his death. I just got lucky & he lived.

    There is no “age of accountability” identified in Scripture as such. There is nothing in the Bible that says, “Here is the age and from here on you are responsible!” I think the reason for that is because children mature at different paces. That would be true from culture to culture, and from age to age in history.
    So the Lord in His wisdom didn’t identify a specific moment. God knows when each soul is accountable. God knows when real rejection has taken place; when the love of sin exists in the heart. When enmity with God is conscious and willful. God alone knows when that occurs.

Now, pick up all the pieces of broken plate and apologize to the plate for breaking it and put it in a box and store it away. Wait a few months improving yourself and become the best person you can be then return to box and look inside, what do you see? The plate is still broken!! Just because you change for the better doesn't fix what you did
